My actually-being-serious pick would be "Nothing Compares 2 U", but this is truly a terrible, terrible list. They even pick the wrong track off "Rio" (more or less anything OTHER than "Hungry Like The Wolf" would have had my vote).

The linguistic mechanisms elude me right now, but somehow this just seems...wrong.

Why do I feel like this was some editorial meeting where people had to stay until they got to 500, and songs were ranked by how quickly they were yelled out?

And the real problem for me is that I could make a convincing argument for about half of these songs as the number one tune past 1980.

I don't trust people who don't like "In da Club".

Like, if I had kids, I wouldn't leave them with someone who didn't like "In da Club".

I'm voting for "Got Your Money" in honor of ODB aka Ason Unique, The Bebop Specialist, Big Baby Jesus, Sweet Baby Jesus, Sweet Baby Jesus, Dirt Dog, Osirus, The Man of All Rainbows, Prince Delight, The Professor, Rain Man, Super Bastard, Peanut the Kidnapper, RJ Tha Mad Specialist, Freeloading Rusty, Joe Bananas, and Dirt McGirt.

I like "In Da Club", but I wouldn't trust someone who thought it was the tenth best song in the past thirty years.
