Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 20:55 (eighteen years ago)

Is "You look OK for a chick that just miscarried" a decent chat-up line? I'm trying to work out how to bag that.

Dom Passantino, Wednesday, 13 February 2008 20:55 (eighteen years ago)

She dumped that chemical dude, A Friend tells some gossip thing.

Blonde + two new tracks.

StanM, Thursday, 17 April 2008 19:40 (eighteen years ago)

i've seen the blond, i love it even tho it looks very bottled. "i don't know" is decent, not really enough to make me care.

Surmounter, Thursday, 17 April 2008 19:46 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think the blonde works for her at all. Can't wait to hear the new tracks when I get home tonight.

Bimble, Thursday, 17 April 2008 20:12 (eighteen years ago)

they're both still demos, according to her "yagga yo" blog entry

StanM, Thursday, 17 April 2008 20:27 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm not all that crazy about the new ones either. It's hard to imagine her in a new role now that she's dropped the ol' attitude. It kindof makes me wish she'd turn 30 already and was more sure of what she is and what she wants.

Bimble, Friday, 18 April 2008 02:13 (eighteen years ago)

she's no Kate Nash

milo z, Friday, 18 April 2008 03:11 (eighteen years ago)

The audio playback's all... messed up on that page. It might have something to do with these embedded video comments, but I couldn't figure out how to stop certain audio streams. Obnoxious. Anyway, that one song I could hear didn't sound bad ('i don't know').

Is there already a complete backlash against her? There were a handful of good tracks on her album, there's definite potential there, but generic junk too. It DOES seem weird that she's a talk show host now. Yes these comments are super late, I know.

Nhex, Friday, 18 April 2008 05:22 (eighteen years ago)

I usually couldn't care less about a musician's extracurricular activities if I like the tunes, but glimpsing half an episode of that chat show made me wish I was born without eyes and ears. It was honestly possibly the worst piece of television I have ever seen in my life.

The episode I saw featured her answering viewer's questions while Martin Freeman squirmed on an awkward chaise lounge. When someone asked something about getting in trouble when she was younger, she told a wacky anecdote about getting caught giving blowjobs at school when she was 12 years old. Cut to shots of adoring, laughing girls in the audience, and a jump into some bullshit where she presented her favourite YouTube videos. It was a monstrosity.

Savannah Smiles, Friday, 18 April 2008 13:35 (eighteen years ago)

oop ack, i'm not loving the blondeyness, at least from that one photo. But I do actually think "I Don't Know" is good.

Is there already a complete backlash against her? Reread this thread, there was a bottled backlash ready to strike from minute one. I enjoyed her singles, still think "LDN" is great, and kind of let the rest slide by, no malice.

Doctor Casino, Friday, 18 April 2008 13:56 (eighteen years ago)

upon first listen, the new stuff sounds like sentimental, transitional drivel to me

The 'Smile' singer will now call the album 'It's Not Me It's You', according to the Daily Mirror.

The album, set for release on February 9, 2009, was previously reported to be named 'Stuck On The Naughty Step', with 'Brilly Allen' another rumoured title.

Mark G, Friday, 24 October 2008 14:41 (seventeen years ago)

How about another suggestion for a title: IT'S OVER

Mr. Snrub, Saturday, 25 October 2008 01:11 (seventeen years ago)

Depends on the camera angle.

agh, terrible terrible article. Apparently this year has been dominated by female artists and LA is the best of them all.

the pinefox, Sunday, 7 December 2008 10:24 (seventeen years ago)

Ah - that video is for the album version, by the way. ("f*ckloads of diamonds" vs. "I want loads of diamonds")

StanM, Sunday, 7 December 2008 10:32 (seventeen years ago)

Hmm...not a bad song, really. Still can't get acquainted with her black hair, though.

Marcello can add Lily Allen to his list of Tory cunt popstars, she was praising Boris Johnson last week.

brotherlovesdub, Sunday, 7 December 2008 17:05 (seventeen years ago)

Her songs are fairly catchy, too bad her whole persona comes off as so bitchy and weirdly moralistic. I feel like so many of songs are about her wagging her finger at various aspects of society that are beneath her.

Moodles, Sunday, 7 December 2008 17:42 (seventeen years ago)

Heheh you're right, brotherlovesdub

Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You, Sunday, 7 December 2008 17:44 (seventeen years ago)

La Lily singing "The Lady is a Tramp" on Jools Holland's New Year's Eve show was mortifyingly revealing of her limitations. I have no idea whose idea it was for her to sing that but her breathy thing just doesn't work with a song like that, which asks for brassiness, pipes, power and sass. She was like a little girl playing dress up. Really embarrassing.

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 1 January 2009 12:59 (seventeen years ago)

"LILY ALLEN STATEMENT

During an interview with The Word magazine Lily Allen was asked about the lyrics of a song on her album called "Everyone's At It". The song's subject matter concerns drug use. In her answer she replied that she "had no statement to make, I just wish people wouldn't sensationalise this thing that just exists". At no point does she say that drugs are a good thing or that she condones drug use; in fact she says that "I can spot the signs (of people on drugs) and it terrifies me". The song itself talks about a culture of both legally prescribed drugs like anti-depressants and also illegal drug use.

Lily Allen would like to state unequivocally that she does not condone illegal drug use and has every sympathy with individuals and families whose lives have been blighted by drugs.
"

how obvious is it that the record label bosses have called the girl in for a bollocking, or that she is worried they will.

mark e, Thursday, 8 January 2009 12:58 (seventeen years ago)

It would be hard to believe that this is coming from the record label, since they're releasing the whole controversy-courting record in the first place.

His favorite band is Creedence Clearwater Revival"

Those De Subjectivism guyz baggin' on Dom over there: "Ah, van Dom Passantino. Die heeft een pesthekel aan ALLE muziek :)"

Don't worry, I suggestbanned their asses.
