plax, what I'm saying is I prefer DFA when they are making awesome dance music with bass and drums that Jordan might find boring than accomplished but not as fun post-punk statement music

Free Energy: dudes who really wish they were Cheap Trick?
― im p diddy and this is my hetero life partner jamie foxx (The Reverend), Wednesday, 19 August 2009 23:09 (sixteen years ago)
or thin lizzy. but they're such shittier lyric writers than either of those bands
― butthurt (deej), Thursday, 20 August 2009 00:43 (sixteen years ago)
i like the dfa when their discoisms sound faggier than crate diggerish

I didn't really bother with sound of silver, to be honest but I for one am support DFA's dope 12" after dope 12" policy, and am proud of it!
will look to buy the new still going today. Also, is there going to be proper release of I Will Come Back?
― EDB, Friday, 21 August 2009 11:41 (sixteen years ago)
I know there was some super-limited vinyl release through Green Label Sound, but those were all given away.
― More Butty In Your Pants (Telephone thing), Friday, 21 August 2009 15:31 (sixteen years ago)
uh what? is there not gonna be a proper release?
― ❊❁❄❆❇❃✴❈plaxico❈✴❃❇❆❄❁❊ (I know, right?), Friday, 21 August 2009 20:04 (sixteen years ago)
cos like, i really want this.
I would be surprised if there wasn't a proper release later this year or in early 2010 to coincide with the album, but who knows...
― More Butty In Your Pants (Telephone thing), Friday, 21 August 2009 20:08 (sixteen years ago)
Also, plaxico, if you like the gayer-sounding end of DFA, check out the Canyons single IMMEDIATELY.
― More Butty In Your Pants (Telephone thing), Friday, 21 August 2009 20:11 (sixteen years ago)
will definitely check that out, also gonna be in london in a week and I want to pick up some dfa stuff that I have been feeling a lot lately and that was top of my list (dnr it was not just a normal release, wtf @ the "for heavy rotation" bit in the video then?)
― ❊❁❄❆❇❃✴❈plaxico❈✴❃❇❆❄❁❊ (I know, right?), Friday, 21 August 2009 20:12 (sixteen years ago)
It's been a long time since I've seen it, but the video is a remake of New Order's Confusion- possibly from that?
― More Butty In Your Pants (Telephone thing), Friday, 21 August 2009 20:15 (sixteen years ago)
yeah, i'm an idiot! : )
― ❊❁❄❆❇❃✴❈plaxico❈✴❃❇❆❄❁❊ (I know, right?), Friday, 21 August 2009 20:16 (sixteen years ago)
also, i'm giving this canyons a listen on their myspace, and it starts out not awesome, but then that changes very suddenly after the first minute and a half or so!
i guess i like the more rockist end of DFA, if that's still a thing :/
― Ømår Littel (Jordan), Friday, 21 August 2009 20:17 (sixteen years ago)
They're still doing that too- I think I night be the only person on this board actually excited by the prospect of a Free Energy album...
― More Butty In Your Pants (Telephone thing), Friday, 21 August 2009 20:22 (sixteen years ago)
that canyons 12" is awesome! do u just not like that brief synth appearance there or what?
― psychgawsple, Friday, 21 August 2009 22:05 (sixteen years ago)
i also am interested in a free energy lp
― you! me! posting! (electricsound), Friday, 21 August 2009 23:05 (sixteen years ago)
ugh count me outt. free energy is the type of dfa i have no patience for whatsoever
― psychgawsple, Saturday, 22 August 2009 00:17 (sixteen years ago)
saw them live in their infancy and let me tell you it was sub-!!!/outhud blargh.
― (*゚ー゚)θ L(。・_・) °~ヾ(・ε・ *) (Steve Shasta), Saturday, 22 August 2009 00:18 (sixteen years ago)
anyways. are they ever planning on a DFA compilation #3? i think they're almost limiting the appeal of these singles by not compiling them in some way or releasing 12" material from the last few years on cd
― psychgawsple, Saturday, 22 August 2009 00:23 (sixteen years ago)
do people buy CDs enough any more to make it worthwhile? i figure that anyone who's not grabbing the vinyl just downloads from itunes or emusic or somesuch.
― self-fufilling rofflecy (haitch), Saturday, 22 August 2009 00:35 (sixteen years ago)
i'd bet an online comp would do well too. and maybe i don't know shit about shit but i do think enough people buy cds for it to be worthwhile, dfa is a pretty big label right?
― psychgawsple, Saturday, 22 August 2009 04:15 (sixteen years ago)
yeah and some of this shit definitely fall through the cracks
― im a square wave and this is my hetero life partner jim jonsin (The Reverend), Saturday, 22 August 2009 08:23 (sixteen years ago)
So, is spaghetti circus in stores already?
― EDB, Sunday, 23 August 2009 00:09 (sixteen years ago)
it's on the itunes store, haven't seen the 12" yet
― dmr, Sunday, 23 August 2009 06:52 (sixteen years ago)
If you use Firefox it's fairly simple to "download" songs direct from Hypem by playing the track and then copying it from your cache.
― groovypanda, Wednesday, 19 August 2009 10:14 (4 days ago)
how is this done? my firefox cache is encrypted so i can't get at anything
― NI, Sunday, 23 August 2009 17:48 (sixteen years ago)
i know that if you're using safari and you go to view>view source you can find the file listed and double clicking it will give you the address of the file which you can use to download it (the only way i have ever figured out of doing this is making a link out of the the file and downloading source file, but i'm sure there's a less cumbersome way of doing this) there must be a similar way to do this with firefox?
― ❊❁❄❆❇❃✴❈plaxico❈✴❃❇❆❄❁❊ (I know, right?), Sunday, 23 August 2009 19:21 (sixteen years ago)
yeah i used to do that but a lot of places (the bbc site for instance) have got wise to it and it doesnt work anymore. that trick doesnt seem to work on hype either - also when hype archives a track does it keep it at the original bitrate or shrink it?

It just appeared on eMusic. The soundscans are amazing.
― Daniel, Esq., Monday, 24 August 2009 02:02 (sixteen years ago)
Untitled Love is Balearic-sounding, which is sort of surprising for the DFA label?
― Daniel, Esq., Monday, 24 August 2009 02:10 (sixteen years ago)
YACHT dude
― abanana, Monday, 24 August 2009 03:04 (sixteen years ago)
yacht isnt balearic ...
but its not at all a surprise for the label
― butthurt (deej), Monday, 24 August 2009 03:10 (sixteen years ago)
Love the Nite Away is about as balearic as it gets
― dmr, Monday, 24 August 2009 03:36 (sixteen years ago)
^^^yeup the tiedye remix of dj kaos is pretty textbook balearic, and so is that cage & aviary single from earlier this year
― psychgawsple, Monday, 24 August 2009 03:36 (sixteen years ago)
what does everyone think about these 45:33 remixes? i posted my personal favorite (padded cell) on ye olde blawg, but the prins thomas miks is another good'n
― psychgawsple, Monday, 24 August 2009 03:40 (sixteen years ago)
you can also check out the PT and Theo Parrish mixes here
― psychgawsple, Monday, 24 August 2009 03:44 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, those linked on the second blog are wrong. There is a version of this circulating that is mislabeled. The one labeled as the Theo Parrish remix on the second one is the Padded Cell remix. The version I downloaded had the actual Theo Parrish remix labeled as the Runaway remix. Over on DJH I think someone mentioned that the initial batch of promos sent out had them mislabeled.
― matt2, Monday, 24 August 2009 16:52 (sixteen years ago)
Oh yeah, I see you kinda discussed some of the mislabeling in your blog post, oops.
― matt2, Monday, 24 August 2009 16:54 (sixteen years ago)
i think the theo was mislabeled as prins thomas, the prins thomas was mislabeled as padded cell, and the padded cell was mislabeled as theo?
― fleetwood (max), Monday, 24 August 2009 17:10 (sixteen years ago)
oh wow i didn't realize how widespread this was, sorry for all this confusion. i guess that second link is actually the riley reinhold and another padded cell remix, but if you can track down the 13+ minute PT version it'd be worth your while
― psychgawsple, Monday, 24 August 2009 17:13 (sixteen years ago)
who the fuck knows
― fleetwood (max), Monday, 24 August 2009 17:16 (sixteen years ago)

runaway 7:34 - (mislabeled as pilooski)prince language 7:54 (& sounds like the original) - (mislabeled as padded cell)prins thomas 13:15 - (mislabeled as prince language)theo parrish 10:08 - (mislabeled as runaway)trus'me 7:33 (first 6 or 7 seconds silent) - (mislabeled as riley reinhold)padded cell 7:56 - (mislabeled as theo parrish)Pilooski 6:58 - (mislabeled as trus'me)riley reinhold 9:02 (mislabeled as prins thomas)

― Jamie T Smith, Monday, 24 August 2009 17:37 (sixteen years ago)
Still haven't got hold of the Theo Parrish yet, but at least I know I'm looking for the Runaway mix.
I've been so looking forward to these that I'm a bit disappointed. Love the standalone vinyl versions of the original SO much.
Cool to hear the lyrics of part three clearly in that Padded Cell mix, though.
