Regarding, Nubya Garcia - the track Triumphance deserves to be very high up in the 2024 ILM Top 77 tracks poll.

brilliant dubby jazz, what a intoxicating sound production, the drums, the saxophone and vocals combine perfectly

Yeah, that's a good track. When I interviewed her she said it wasn't even going to be on the album at first — it's been her set closer for a year or two and she wanted to keep it special, something you could only hear at the gigs, but friends convinced her to record it.

Gilles Peterson AOTY choice

Daughter of a Temple
by ganavya
https://ganavya.bandcamp.com/album/daughter-of-a-temple

Described by the Wall Street Journal as “one of modern music’s most compelling vocalists,” New York-born and Tamil Nadu-raised singer and multi-instrumentalist ganavya shares an ambitious new album, "Daughter of a Temple", via LEITER. The album follows her performance at SAULT’s acclaimed live debut in London in 2023, where, according to The Guardian, her “voice had a delicate emotive heft that could turn stoics into sobbing wrecks.” Her first single for LEITER, "draw something beautiful," was released earlier this year in July.

For "Daughter of a Temple", ganavya invited over 30 artists from various disciplines to a ritual gathering in Houston. Consequently, the album features numerous contributors, including renowned musicians such as esperanza spalding, Vijay Iyer, Shabaka Hutchings, Immanuel Wilkins, and Peter Sellars. The results—an innovative and deeply moving blend of spiritual jazz and South Asian devotional music—were initially recorded by Ryan Renteria and then further edited and mixed by Nils Frahm at LEITER's studio in Berlin in 2024.

i don't think the mk.gee album is going to be right at the top of the eoy aggregates but it'll be on a bunch of lists. should absolutely show up on the ilm 77 (i'll be voting for it)

Treble - The 30 Best Metal Albums of 2024

AOTY format
https://www.albumoftheyear.org/list/2300-trebles-30-best-metal-albums-of-2024/

some of my faves:

29. Iress – Sleep Now, In Reverse
https://weareiress.bandcamp.com/album/sleep-now-in-reverse

They’ve been compared to the likes of Emma Ruth Rundle and King Woman, artists whose music is more metal-adjacent than strictly for-the-riffs. And it’s fitting, but Iress have established a sonic identity all their own, one where a moment of delicate beauty can hit just as hard as a double-bass pummel.
doomgaze

18. Vuur & Zidje – Boezem
https://vuurenzijde.bandcamp.com/album/boezem

ethereal post punk goes atmospheric metalgaze

They’re arguably more post-punk than metal, at their most stunningly sinister bringing to mind classic 4AD releases from the likes of early Cocteau Twins and Xmal Deutschland, but when a blast beat passage breaks through, it’s seamless, elegant, driven by a gorgeous darkness as much as a beastly force of malevolence. While it’s perhaps not a 50/50 split, the group are proficient in both arenas, equally fetching in corpse paint or fishnets, velvet or ash. Either way, it’s made to soundtrack a night of debauchery and decadence.

17. Glassing – From the Other Side of the Mirror
https://glassing.bandcamp.com/album/from-the-other-side-of-the-mirror-2

It’s always impressive to hear Austin trio Glassing continue to find new territory to explore in the space between atmospheric post-metal, melodic post-hardcore and scorching black metal and screamo

6. Oranssi Pazuzu – Muuntautuja
https://oranssipazuzu.bandcamp.com/album/muuntautuja
incorporating electronics and industrial into noisey sonic psychedelic distorted metal.

and
1. Chat Pile – Cool World
https://chatpile.bandcamp.com/album/cool-world
the track Frownland sounds very Killing Joke.

When could Spotify Wrapped 2024 come out?
https://metro.co.uk/2024/11/26/spotify-wrapped-2024-come-stop-counting-22064141/

When could Spotify Wrapped 2024 come out?
For the last three years, it has been on a Wednesday. Last year it was Wednesday November 29, the year before Wednesday November 30, and in 2021 it was Wednesday December 1.

Tomorrow is…. Wednesday November 27, so if they don’t break with tradition, it could be prime time for the stats to be shared.

It’s a little earlier than before, however, so next week on Wednesday December 4 could also be possible.

djmartian, Tuesday, 26 November 2024 12:46 (one year ago)

2024 Spotify Wrapped looks likely to be delivered tomorrow, just had a Spotify app pop-up to look back at your 2023 and 2022 Top Songs.

popmatters - The 20 Best Metal Albums of 2024
https://www.popmatters.com/best-metal-albums-of-2024

highlighted recommended album release is not metal, rather a great electronic rock release from Haunted Plasma

I checked with the metal detection police at metal-archives
https://www.metal-archives.com/search?searchString=haunted+plasma&type=band_name
no results

15. Haunted Plasma – I (Svart)
https://hauntedplasma.bandcamp.com/album/i

Haunted Plasma, powerhouse of futuristic synth in symbiosis with the super violence of kosmische black metal, release their debut album in May 2024

The phenomenal three-piece band includes members of Oranssi Pazuzu, K-X-P, Grave Pleasures and Aavikko

Svart Records is proud to release the debut album, I, from Haunted Plasma, a powerhouse of futuristic synth in symbiosis with the super violent atmospherics of kosmische Black Metal. Haunted Plasma is “man meets machine” in a cybernetic wasteland, set to a conceptual backdrop of William Gibson and Phillip K. Dick style mind-melt. The highly evolved creatives at the heart of Haunted Plasma’s sound, cite Terry Riley, Massive Attack, a contemporary take on Krautrock hypnosis, psychedelic Black Metal and 90s Techno, resulting in an orgy of mutant sound.

The phantoms at the beating nucleus of this unearthly machine are Juho Vanhanen (Oranssi Pazuzu, Grave Pleasures), Timo Kaukolampi (K-X-P, Op:l Bastards) and Tomi Leppänen (Circle, Aavikko, K-X-P), transmitting a music form evolved from a life of redefining sonic boundaries in their respective projects. Also featuring guest vocals from Mat McNerney (Hexvessel, Carpenter Brut, Grave Pleasures/Beastmilk), Pauliina Lindell (Vuono, Dust Mountain) and Ringa Manner (Ruusut, The Hearing). Haunted Plasma promises an extraterrestrial experience from some of the foremost contemporary musicians at the heart of the Finnish heavy and avant-garde musical underworld.

Haunted Plasma reveals:

“We are liberated futurists, embracing free-form and natural composition, mirroring the merciless forces of cosmic creation. We have a motto to stay true to our feelings, to spawn a sound that’s never been heard before. Servants of music. Energizing, radical and pure”

The first single from Haunted Plasma’s cascading debut, Reverse Engineer, is a creepy, slowly erupting, synthetic nightmare, of a downloaded being waking up in the wrong future. Ghostly vocals demand the listener to “give us what we want” in an Orwellian glimpse into the current dystopia we live in, where information is controlled, and thoughts are bought and sold. As McNerney intones the words “technology of power” he describes the threat of a malevolent and omnipresent artificial intelligence, as much as describing the oppressive and electromagnetic sonar pulse of Haunted Plasma’s sound itself. Psychedelic guitar hypnosis from Vanhanen snakes around Kaukolampi’s molten and morphing synths, while Leppänen’s uncanny man/machine rhythms pull our strings and animate their other-worldly mechanisms. Have a look at the official visualiser of "Reverse Engineer" on the Svart YouTube channel here

Culminating in the full-blown fast Krautrock of the final self-titled track, oozing with blistering noise elements and enigmatic vocals from Ringa Manner, the album's journey reaches its zenith, taking you to unknown territories on a Kubrikian space trip. I is a rare record of talented musicians coming together to create a completely new sound, which is entirely their own, boldly glowing, where no light has shone before. From the dreamy psychedelia of Echoes to the discombobulated Spectral Embrace, Haunted Plasma is a willful force of deliberate sound contortion.

Whether you want to give in to Haunted Plasma’s sound or not, you are being watched, you are being recorded and your every move is monitored. Haunted Plasma will enter your system on the 31st of May 2024. Turn on your phantom circuits and be prepared for an interdimensional excursion into Haunted Plasma’s alien dreams.

The debut album from Haunted Plasma will be packaged in a beautiful tip-on sleeve, swirling fog artwork, complete with 12” booklet and pressed on 3 exclusive vinyl colours: 300 copies on Standard Black Wax, 200 copies in Amber + Black Smoke and 500 copies of Svart exclusive Turquoise/Black Marble. The album will also be available on CD and digital platforms.
