"French Navy" was sandwiched between Billy Joel and Fleetwood Mac fwiw.

Do we have a thread about lyrics that hit a bit too close to home and you just have to <3 them for it? "when you're lucid, you're the sweetest thing. i would trade in my mother to hear you sing" oh my god i may have to listen to this song like a million times in a row.

if traceyanne campbell ever looked happy while performing hell would freeze over

That's so damn true! I saw them twice a couple of years ago and she looked like she'd rather be doing just about anything else.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Wednesday, 14 October 2009 22:31 (fourteen years ago) link

this is my album of the year, everyone else can go suck it.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 22:33 (fourteen years ago) link

being from glasgow will do that to you, or so i'm told.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 22:34 (fourteen years ago) link

I think that's just her face, nothing to do with her emotional state, although I'm sure the problem is aggravated hearing "cheer up, hen" a dozen times a day.

what else sounds like this? and not just lol b&s and other co albums. and is this good?

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 23:11 (fourteen years ago) link

The Concretes In Colour, perhaps? Or do they count as lol other co?

co = camera obscura

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 23:19 (fourteen years ago) link

will try it. loved the first record and then totally forgot they existed.

Samuel (a hoy hoy), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 23:19 (fourteen years ago) link

the school aren't that far removed, though they are perhaps less melancholy and more upbeat/girl group

get up and use(rna)me (electricsound), Wednesday, 14 October 2009 23:20 (fourteen years ago) link

These guys are usually pretty good live, but "French Navy" is just not the same song without the strings :(

The new one is outstanding. Maybe their best.

New year's resolution to write something of valuuuuuuuuue...."

Love it.

Evan R, Thursday, 9 May 2013 21:00 (eleven years ago) link

Is it out there now or do you have a promo copy? Can't believe it's been four years already since the last album.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 9 May 2013 21:45 (eleven years ago) link

has the new album leaked? "do it again" doesn't do much for me. I'll still buy it the day it comes out.

the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Thursday, 9 May 2013 21:51 (eleven years ago) link

I have a promo copy. I don't think it comes out for several more weeks, but I hope people get really excited about it. It's scaled back a bit from their last couple albums, but the songs are just wonderful

Evan R, Thursday, 9 May 2013 21:52 (eleven years ago) link

There doesn't seem to be a lot of hype so far but I'm really looking forward to it. It's out on June 3rd so there is still time for people to get excited.

Kitchen Person, Thursday, 9 May 2013 22:07 (eleven years ago) link

Loved the last one, but yeah, kinda forgot this was coming out.

New album is out there now. Sounds beautiful so far, a bit more understated than the last album.

Kitchen Person, Monday, 27 May 2013 03:53 (eleven years ago) link

Think they've finally made an album as good as Biggest Bluest Hi-Fi.

Kitchen Person, Monday, 27 May 2013 04:08 (eleven years ago) link

strange that they are touring with she and him because they are essentially the same band now. will they all play at once? it's a tad adult contemporary but then, they are old. a bit dull and overly polished. on first listen my least favorite record of theirs.

Very sad. I've been listening to Camera Obscura all afternoon. Such a great band! We should do a singles poll!

daavid, Monday, 12 October 2015 02:15 (eight years ago) link

sad. she did in fact write (i assume; sing, at least) something of value.

Nice song. I loved seeing Edwyn Collins pop up in the teaser video they posted.

kitchen person, Tuesday, 27 February 2018 20:09 (six years ago) link

I was just wondering about this band. I didn't know about the horrible news with Lander's passing until just now. So sad. I'm guessing they dropped the Camera Obscura name.

Tracyanne Campbell has such a wonderful voice - mournful, expressive and hopeful all at once. I dont understand why she isn't the only voice on this. Even her barely-whispered backing vocals on "Jacqueline" overshadow Danny Coughlan's attempts to hold the spotlight.

boxedjoy, Thursday, 14 June 2018 10:16 (five years ago) link

Was just reading about Traceyanne & Danny ( on tour now). I need to investigate

curmudgeon, Friday, 15 June 2018 19:30 (five years ago) link

I do like this album, but I would like it more the less Danny was present. The songs are really good and his voice isn't *awful* but it's just not the same.

boxedjoy, Friday, 15 June 2018 19:58 (five years ago) link

so glad to hear about traceyanne and danny project, wish they'd visit CO, appears no, tho.

wow i missed carey's passing somehow even to now, that's horrible.
