Pearl Jam is playing two shows at Wrigley Field this weekend (capacity ~41,000).

And two at Fenway Park in two weeks (capacity ~37,000).

sorry i didn't know where you grew up i wasn't directing that at you just listening to pearl jam in the early 90s sounded dullsville to me not so much the place although i do think of snowy cold winters when i think of minnesota. and pearl jam are boring. and it was out there in the rural! but i do apologize. it won't happen again. i forget sometimes that people like where they grew up.

Given that Oasis were on creation records, they loved Stone Roses, came from that period in Manchester etc. they would've been open to quite a lot of stuff. Of course they heard Funkadelic, but it wouldn't have cone through in their music, partly because they weren't good enough or were that obsessed with it.

And the stuff they were good at caught a wave that ppl bought into, sold lots of records, turned them into 'rock star' dickheads blah blah.

Pearl Jam could play their instruments and experimented quite a lot with style and genre following Ten. Oasis rarely swayed away from the formula, even when they were trying to get creative.
PJ were practically an art band compared to Oasis. And no. I don't think they hit the mainstream zeitgeist the same way, even in the US.

I think he (Morrissey) is getting desperate. He apparently has two completed records that no label wants to touch and he allegedly doesn't want to self-release anything, so I tend to think both are true. He's desperate enough to ask but also anticipated Marr saying no, but he could still milk a new press cycle out of it.

this has the ring of truth to me -- he's a guy for whom the idea of being supported by the right people/imprints is imports (see: his desire to have his autobiography published by Penguin Classics if you please so it'll look like the books he treasured as a young man), and also, he's a guy who likes to throw blame around & you can't do that as easily when you self release

xp With Andy Rourke gone and Mike Joyce persona non grata to Morrissey and Marr, I've kind of accepted that I missed my chance to see the Smiths. (I saw the 'Mats reunion in 2014 and as great as it was, it's really a different thing for me than a full-on Replacements show.)

the videos I've seen of Marr singing Smiths songs have been very good, no reason to give Morrissey a dime at this point

It's kind of rich to see some Marr-hating Morrissey fans dump on Marr for playing small venues while Morrissey is allegedly selling out large ones...tbf he has sold out some larger shows, but when Morrissey did his United Palace residency here in NYC, they had to give away TONS of tickets just to get a decent-sized audience to show up. When fans signed up for some online giveaways, pretty much everyone "won" a pair of tickets, so much that many wound up with a lot of extra tickets due to multiple entries.

I assume Morrissey already performs multiple Smiths songs live. I mean, if I buy a ticket to see Udo Dirkschneider’s solo band, I’ll be expecting to hear “Balls to the Wall” as the encore.

Looking at setlist, it can be a crapshoot. At his last Forest Hills show, just one Smiths song, but at the United Palace residency it was six (pretty much the same setlist each night).

I can't get into it too much out of respect for someone close to me who has long since passed, but she was a Moz hyperfan known to the inner circle (I mean this very positively; he knew and deeply appreciated it and her, saying so after her death in a way that expressed humility and perspective rather than arrogance, and it's the one sole 'you did right' feeling I have for him at this point as a person), but she would agree with this assessment. She specifically brought up the no-self-release option to me a couple of times during the long gap between Maladjusted and You Are The Quarry as to why nothing had emerged in those years, and it wasn't writers block by any means.

Feile festival 95 in Cork - Oasis were getting huge not supernova huge and they weren't playing that year but I was in the stadium anyway absolutely fucked after 2 flagons of Linden Village at about 2 pm and I spot some guy walking with a huge bunch of lads around him and he's in this white fabric suit like a Bruce Lee karate suit, shades and Weller cut doing the monkey walk.
