xps well hype aside it was literally a recreation of fairly bland 60s British pop. Funny if Jesus Lizard was the expectation over in the US (Jess, formerly of this parish, tweeted something similar the other day)

It does have that sheen of loud guitars over every non-ballad track which 60's pop does not and which could perhaps trick ppl into thinking it's closer to the stuff matt cited than it is.

When they first appeared on totp reruns I did think "this does sound quite distinctive and not like anything else on the show at the time"; it also sounded boring and shit, to be clear.

Yeah there are some updates (the sheen is v similar to Band of Susans, a NY art rock outfit). 'Attitudes' and fashions are ofc updated but ultimately there wasn't much doubt what this was mining.

Funny how this reunion has happened not long after Noel Gallagher announced his latest divorce. Ian Brown did a similar thing getting The Stone Roses back together after a costly divorce a decade ago.

Saw elsewhere that a tour itinerary leaked last night or early this morning, was dismissed as fake but the UK/Ireland dates proved true.

These were the North America dates from the previously dismissed as fake itinerary:
24 August 2025: Downsview Park, Toronto, ON

30 August 2025: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
2 September 2025: Gilette Stadium, Boston, MA

Maybe I'm way underestimating demand here, but I can't imagine Oasis filling up Soldier Field.

I can see the US east coast having enough dumb assholes with no taste to make two stadium shows viable (NJ and Boston well chosen venues), but yeah, the Midwest might be a tougher market for this garbage barge of lobotomized 90s nostalgia.

I feel like U.S. Oasis fans are less "dumb assholes" than "creative directors nostalgic for their '94 year abroad."

Also: how much touring did they do in America, and where did they play? It's not the best metric, but I checked setlist.fm for Houston shows, and they played here three times: a club show in '95, and shows in '98 & '06 at a theatre downtown that can hold 3000 or so.

They did a reasonable amount of touring compared to some, but bustups and fuckups did grind a few tours to a halt.

Good chance this could be canceled too.

It makes sense. Grohl has done so much shit big and small outside of music that cumulatively gets them much more attention - off the top of my head, appearing on popular cooking shows, refusing to license his music to Glee which made some waves, his own TV shows about various things, his book, rickrolling right wing nuts, etc. - while PJ seems to mostly stick with music. I can't say those are good reasons why they're more popular, it just is.

There is no way I will listen to Pearl Jam as a substitute to Oasis. I want no subs I want this stuff to be burned from the earth.

I have friends who love Oasis and are excited about this reunion, and I'm very much not telling them that Oasis are shit and they shouldn't be excited. But I genuinely cannot stand the group and feel annoyed that I'm going to have to hear about them for the next year. So thank god at least I have this thread to moan about it. Maybe a pro-Oasis thread could be started and I will leave it alone.
