Bonehead gets some prominent screen time in their official vid, so I guess he's going be doing guest spots. It appears he's the only original member everyone likes

― PaulTMA, Tuesday, 27 August 2024 13:03 (one hour ago) bookmarkflaglink

Afaict he's also the only one who's had anything to do with either of them (Liam namely and recently) in the years since.

Sadly the best (most annoyongly right) opinion I found

Oasis were a state funded counterinsurgency deployed to reestablish white nationalist cultural hegemony when 90s pop culture dared to drift into multiculturalism for two minutes.

They’re part of the same ensemble as Farage and Tommy, don’t @ me

Noel and Liam, filling out forms for an Arts Council grant!

Funny how this reunion has happened not long after Noel Gallagher announced his latest divorce. Ian Brown did a similar thing getting The Stone Roses back together after a costly divorce a decade ago.

kitchen person, Tuesday, 27 August 2024 14:08 (one year ago)

give it guigsy to the end of the reunion

the difference in the amount of cultural baggage attached to oasis in the uk vs the us is such a vast gulf

wake me when suede announce they're doing a tour where they play the first disc of sci-fi lullabies front to back

ivy., Tuesday, 27 August 2024 14:29 (one year ago)

they should kick off the first comeback show with Little James to rev people up

z_tbd, Tuesday, 27 August 2024 14:32 (one year ago)

Seeing a few UK twitter posts that are like 'suede reunion plz', which is funny because they were overtaken quite quickly.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 27 August 2024 14:33 (one year ago)

Aren't Suede already reformed?

Defund Phil Collins (Tom D.), Tuesday, 27 August 2024 14:38 (one year ago)

yes that's why i didn't say "reform"

ivy., Tuesday, 27 August 2024 14:40 (one year ago)

anyway... oasis, notoriously great live band who aren't dead fucks onstage at all, they're back baby

ivy., Tuesday, 27 August 2024 14:41 (one year ago)

oh i see you were replying to xyz, tom, sorry about that, my brain isn't reading correctly today

ivy., Tuesday, 27 August 2024 14:42 (one year ago)

Sorry should've checked. Still going with new material since getting back together..

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 27 August 2024 14:44 (one year ago)

Suede shared top billing with John Major at some Festival of Ideas last year or thereabouts, some laughs on social media about travelling back in time and informing the band of this. Also last spot on an ILX best albums of the year poll some time ago.

yeah i used to just chuckle at the whole "mega" shit about them at the time seeing bands like fugazi, superchunk, archers, jesus lizard, girls vs boys, jsbx etc - let's see a little hustle out there fellas!! *blows whistle* alright we're gonna run some laps until you guys get this right

I was at a Suede gig a few weeks ago
Was great except She's In Fashion which is still dire

kinder, Tuesday, 27 August 2024 14:48 (one year ago)

Suede's last album ruled.

the talented mr pimply (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 27 August 2024 14:49 (one year ago)

I think they should hire Bez to dance on stage.

StanM, Tuesday, 27 August 2024 14:52 (one year ago)

xp I'm a fan of the first couple of 'new' ones but the last one I wasn't feeling. Might give it another go.

kinder, Tuesday, 27 August 2024 14:52 (one year ago)

xps well hype aside it was literally a recreation of fairly bland 60s British pop. Funny if Jesus Lizard was the expectation over in the US (Jess, formerly of this parish, tweeted something similar the other day)

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 27 August 2024 14:53 (one year ago)

It does have that sheen of loud guitars over every non-ballad track which 60's pop does not and which could perhaps trick ppl into thinking it's closer to the stuff matt cited than it is.

When they first appeared on totp reruns I did think "this does sound quite distinctive and not like anything else on the show at the time"; it also sounded boring and shit, to be clear.

Daniel_Rf, Tuesday, 27 August 2024 15:00 (one year ago)

Yeah there are some updates (the sheen is v similar to Band of Susans, a NY art rock outfit). 'Attitudes' and fashions are ofc updated but ultimately there wasn't much doubt what this was mining.

xyzzzz__, Tuesday, 27 August 2024 15:15 (one year ago)

Stoked

Allen (etaeoe), Tuesday, 27 August 2024 16:05 (one year ago)

yeah it wasn't so much like everything had to be jesus lizard it was just the breathless hype then i saw them live on mtv and it was like "oh...ok"

The Replacements as well

chr1sb3singer, Tuesday, 27 August 2024 16:10 (one year ago)

Saw elsewhere that a tour itinerary leaked last night or early this morning, was dismissed as fake but the UK/Ireland dates proved true.

These were the North America dates from the previously dismissed as fake itinerary:
24 August 2025: Downsview Park, Toronto, ON
27 August 2025: Soldier Field, Chicago, IL
30 August 2025: MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
2 September 2025: Gilette Stadium, Boston, MA
6 September 2025: Rose Bowl, Los Angeles, CA
11 September 2025: Foro Sol, Mexico City

Maybe I'm way underestimating demand here, but I can't imagine Oasis filling up Soldier Field.

Maxmillion D. Boosted (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 27 August 2024 17:19 (one year ago)

I can see the US east coast having enough dumb assholes with no taste to make two stadium shows viable (NJ and Boston well chosen venues), but yeah, the Midwest might be a tougher market for this garbage barge of lobotomized 90s nostalgia.

Instead of create and send out, it pull back and consume (unperson), Tuesday, 27 August 2024 17:39 (one year ago)

I feel like U.S. Oasis fans are less "dumb assholes" than "creative directors nostalgic for their '94 year abroad."

bratwurst autumn (Eazy), Tuesday, 27 August 2024 17:44 (one year ago)

honestly i don't even think it's as fancy as all that, it's the same people who are filling up foo fighters, green day, weezer shows, etc...it's just classic rock for people who listen to alt rock radio growing up

Plus millennials really love "Wonderwall"

Charlie Hair (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 27 August 2024 17:57 (one year ago)

Also: how much touring did they do in America, and where did they play? It's not the best metric, but I checked setlist.fm for Houston shows, and they played here three times: a club show in '95, and shows in '98 & '06 at a theatre downtown that can hold 3000 or so.

Charlie Hair (C. Grisso/McCain), Tuesday, 27 August 2024 18:03 (one year ago)

They did a reasonable amount of touring compared to some, but bustups and fuckups did grind a few tours to a halt.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 27 August 2024 18:05 (one year ago)

Good chance this could be canceled too.

But the damage has already been done (songs are stuck in my head)

I hate these cunts. Neil Kulkarni sussed them from the fucking beginning.

Duke, Tuesday, 27 August 2024 23:16 (one year ago)

Pearl Jam was and is way more interesting than Oasis ever was, sorry.

the talented mr pimply (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 27 August 2024 23:29 (one year ago)

I hate them too and I'm so tired of hearing about this already, yet here I am posting about it.

I'm all about the peace and love but have for decades had a massive latent desire to punch Liam in the face. I am somewhat acquainted with the singer in Nowaysis so maybe I could come to some arrangement for him to be my surrogate Liam punchbag?

stirmonster, Tuesday, 27 August 2024 23:30 (one year ago)

I would go see them with a free ticket. I liked the cokehead insanity of the first What's The Story Morning Glory follow-up single where the video starts out with a helicopter.
