Caldera - Dolphin Skii. Hat tip Eris Drew for the ig story on this one

a few recent things I've been enjoying:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VF05y29GqnU

Midland - You Never Take Me Dancing - square synths and crisp percussion, feels like a better take on the lumpy kind of Daniel Avery/later-era Tiga sound

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OS1Qmx7LhQM

I.JORDAN & Planningtorock - TNB (Night Version) - the hard house revival continues, but with enough strangeness to feel more than a pastiche

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4upjGRiCu6g

James Curd - I Am One, I Am Many (Adelphi Music Factory Remix) - nu-disco goes big-room house

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3a3fDaG4io

Tino - Work My Body - yes we've all heard many tracks that sound like 1989 with this exact vocal but this is really well-executed

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t4FFwYQVIGk

Matias Aguayo - El Camaron (DJ Babatr Remix) - big percussive propulsive energy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNFo1DV8YDY

Elkka - DJ Friendly - massive madness that's not pretending to be anything other than big dumb fun

DAPHNI - Cloudy (Kelbin Remix)
(that's Dan Snaith)

https://rhyw.bandcamp.com/album/mister-melt

This is pretty cool, electro around 140 BPM that reminds me of early "Croydon techno" style dubstep like early Benga, Artwork, and Skream.

I have endless amounts of time for electro that blends with UK bass stuff.

Also I strongly suspect he used an AI model called Musika for the title track's hooks, I did the same thing on an EP last year and it sounds really familiar. Although mine was nowhere near as good.

https://grrlmusic.bandcamp.com/album/honeybee

This title track is absolutely bonkers, like UK Bass music with a heavy Justice/French electro feeling, abrasive like some of the more out there mainstream EDM but super interesting sound design.

https://loif.bandcamp.com/album/plunge

Deep aquatic electro that surprisingly really doesn't sound like Drexciya, honestly it's got a bit of an Aussie psy trance vibe to me, or maybe something like Midi Milliz?

In one sense an E2-E4 bootleg defeats the point, but if I had dj gigs I would play this

Jordan s/t (Jordan), Wednesday, 31 January 2024 19:32 (two years ago)

brand new from one of my favourite producers of late, Lindsey Wang aka Polygonia - twitchy techno with a good ear for colourful melody often of a very chinese flavour, all her stuff is gold tbh

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1VkI6p1q1A
Polygonia - Disha Shu

blazin' squab (NickB), Thursday, 1 February 2024 20:45 (two years ago)

Catching Polygonia at The Cause on Saturday - hoping for a live set but flyer gives few clues

Chewshabadoo, Thursday, 8 February 2024 14:41 (two years ago)

Oh I missed that post - how was she?

Bernard Quidbins (NickB), Sunday, 18 February 2024 16:26 (two years ago)

Well, annoyingly about 2 days before the night they cut off half the acts, which took away most people we wanted to see, including Tia Cousins and Jaye Ward… and stuck Pokygonia on at the start of the night, so we missed most of her set and the part we saw we were in the start-of-the-night zone so weren’t really focussing much. She was DJing rather than live and it seemed OK but the venue also had that annoying thing where the volume was low because they were building it up, so all in all no comment!

Chewshabadoo, Sunday, 25 February 2024 17:08 (two years ago)

ah that's a pisser, too bad!

Bernard Quidbins (NickB), Sunday, 25 February 2024 19:21 (two years ago)

just done a quick raid on the apartment records back catalogue. the last thing they put out was the debut belacqua EP - some great wonky, wheels-just-about-to-fall-off techno, first track on it is this which is somewhere between the fall and the young gods 'did u miss me?':

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHE7_rhAH00
Belacqua - Gunnish (Original Mix)

Bernard Quidbins (NickB), Sunday, 25 February 2024 19:28 (two years ago)

Yeah it’s a really fun track that one!

I like Apartment Records a lot. Kenny Hanlon is a very enjoyable DJ too if you ever get the chance to hear him play.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 9 March 2024 17:34 (two years ago)

oh wow, i heard that on bandcamp a couple of weeks ago and i stuck it on my wishlist to remind me to listen to the whole EP when it comes out. nice one!

Bernard Quidbins (NickB), Saturday, 9 March 2024 20:06 (two years ago)

I wont tell where the sample comes from because I doubt it’s cleared and I don’t want to get him in trouble but I’ll say it comes from one of the coolest children’s cartoons ever.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 9 March 2024 21:07 (two years ago)

bought this i love it:

reminds me of pretty arpeggiated bobbins of the 00s, like balearic kompakt with heftier drums

brand new from one of my favourite producers of late, Lindsey Wang aka Polygonia - twitchy techno with a good ear for colourful melody often of a very chinese flavour, all her stuff is gold tbh

I had never heard of her and randomly came across her youtube channel the other day. She has a few production tips videos that are interesting if you're into that kind of thing. I like her music.

I am listening to a new XDB mix and a new Chez Damier track, “Do It” is giving me warm, chunky, 90s vibes.

No YouTube clips up as yet, but it is at 1h25m on the mix.

Chewshabadoo, Wednesday, 1 May 2024 08:22 (two years ago)

NC4K do put out some quality music, new one from Ko Yang is no exception:

https://nocollar4kicks.bandcamp.com/album/nc4k0035-wonder-bcn-ep-incl-max-in-the-world-remix

Last track is my favourite, deep but swinging uk garage with some lovely romantic plucked strings, very gorgeous imo

Bernard Quidbins (NickB), Monday, 6 May 2024 17:26 (two years ago)

Bit reminiscent of SFA's 'flowers' if you like that sort of thing

Bernard Quidbins (NickB), Monday, 6 May 2024 17:31 (two years ago)

Finally heard one of the mad professor e2-e4 dubs today, holy god
