Well, to you gyac, and other Irish posters and readers, I offer my apologies! I hoped my own part-Irish genetics and general enthusiasm for the country and it’s culture would give me a pass, but it was a stupid assumption on my end and I am sorry.

my best wishes to all (flamboyant goon tie included), Thursday, 14 September 2023 15:13 (two years ago)

Thank you.

I dont know who DJ Koze is but has he made a statement one way or the other in the wake of this?

― I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm)

Dj Koze is a fantastic oddball producer, his solo and remix work is definitely worth a listen. He’s not very active on social media iirc, I think he has an ig account but he mostly posts new releases. He doesn’t do much interviews either… I’m not aware of his current stance about this but wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t say anything. He worked on-off this album for years and he should be proud about his work. I’d be angry and frustrated at the whole situation since it was so easily avoidable and fixable.

xheugy eddy (D-40), Thursday, 14 September 2023 15:18 (two years ago)

Roisin has some classic songs, this album is a creative flop, it kind of sucks to feel like people can only be honest about this stuff when the person is Problematic in some fatally flawed way

xheugy eddy (D-40), Thursday, 14 September 2023 15:19 (two years ago)

Here’s an interview for the Guardian. It confirms he doesn’t like social media much and it’s his first interview in five years. It was done before this shitshow:

Nobody cares about diaspora opinions in this, hth.

ydkb (gyac), Thursday, 14 September 2023 15:22 (two years ago)

I’ve returned your permission slip to you D-40, unredeemed, with appreciation.

Generally in life and on this board I reserve my enthusiasm for “things that are great” and I’m myself jarred at reading my own responses regarding “something that is bad”, I’m gonna put the hater gloves back in the shed

my best wishes to all (flamboyant goon tie included), Thursday, 14 September 2023 15:23 (two years ago)

If that's in reference to my post may I clarify you are welcome and indeed encouraged to hate on a piece of music as hard as you like, it's healthy, but I do believe that the opposing opinion can be just as valid for those who hold it.

Lumpy pillows, kiss my ass. Put that in your book (stevie), Thursday, 14 September 2023 15:29 (two years ago)

honestly I think questions of "is this good" or not are irrelevant right now. I've enjoyed her work in the past and I can't listen to it now because she's chosen evil

School of RAAC (Noodle Vague), Thursday, 14 September 2023 15:30 (two years ago)

You Liked Her But She's Chosen Darkness

How far does the “TERFdom is a primarily UK phenomenon” argument go? Is Wales as TERFY as England? Milton Keynes more or less TERFY than Dundee?
Would be great to get more insight about the country I live in from people who may well have never set foot here.

houdini said, Thursday, 14 September 2023 15:38 (two years ago)

I don’t really think “is it good or not” is irrelevant. All of a sudden you *can* separate art from artist as long as it’s done wokely?

xheugy eddy (D-40), Thursday, 14 September 2023 15:45 (two years ago)

Not really clear on the 'it' there

Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 14 September 2023 15:47 (two years ago)

It seems to me a lot of ppl find her perspective sheds a new light on the music for them so it seems like if it’s good or not is a pertinent, contingent question

xheugy eddy (D-40), Thursday, 14 September 2023 15:47 (two years ago)

who gives a shit what a boring irrelevant debate

sorry to be grouchy just the anti-irish / patronising Irish stuff is a bit unbelievable to see here

houdini said, Thursday, 14 September 2023 15:47 (two years ago)

I can assure you it isn’t

ydkb (gyac), Thursday, 14 September 2023 15:51 (two years ago)

fair point

as for geographic disparities in UK terfdom levels that would be a question worth investigating if it was meant in earnest and wasn't just kneejerk bristling over americans noticing embarrassing things

your original display name is still visible (Left), Thursday, 14 September 2023 16:05 (two years ago)

the only TERF I personally know lives in Wales but is actually American

You mean like there being no assholes in Ireland so Roisin Murphy should be considered British?

Monthly Python (Tom D.), Thursday, 14 September 2023 16:22 (two years ago)

yeah a lot of people are saying both of those things

your original display name is still visible (Left), Thursday, 14 September 2023 16:31 (two years ago)

That's what people were bristling over afaict, but feel free to imagine otherwise.

Monthly Python (Tom D.), Thursday, 14 September 2023 16:56 (two years ago)

think she actually spends more time living in Ibiza than anywhere else

NickB, Thursday, 14 September 2023 16:57 (two years ago)

sorry I should have said irish people noticing embarrassing things

I can think of a few high profile media figures in Portugal who've gone terf recently in the wake of JK Rowling's bullshit. In the end media hack solidarity is stronger than any kind of national identity really.

Daniel_Rf, Thursday, 14 September 2023 16:59 (two years ago)

who gives a shit what a boring irrelevant debate

― your original display name is still visible (Left), Thursday, September 14, 2023 10:47 AM (one hour ago) bookmarkflaglink

What’s irrelevant exactly? People have shared their perspective on how this entire thing affects their experience of the music the whole thread — not sure what’s irrelevant about that.

xheugy eddy (D-40), Thursday, 14 September 2023 17:05 (two years ago)

I can assure you it isn’t

Yes save the patronizing for “the diaspora”

xheugy eddy (D-40), Thursday, 14 September 2023 17:07 (two years ago)

think she actually spends more time living in Ibiza than anywhere else

The Sherburne piece says she moved to Brigante’s villa in Ibiza about three and a half years ago, to escape lockdown. Whether this has any bearing on her now exhibiting facebook brainworms is an exercise for the armchair speculator.

vashti funyuns (sic), Thursday, 14 September 2023 17:15 (two years ago)

the art/artist debate is tired and has been used to prop up the worst people in entertainment for decades so I have no patience for it xp

Big Bren, giddy like a schoolboy.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/09/14/roisin-murphy-olivia-rodrigo-no1-album-after-trans-row/

Fans have rushed to buy the record, urged on by comedy writer and gender-critical campaigner Graham Linehan and Brendan O’Neill, the author and free-speech advocate, who have enjoined their online followers to support Murphy.

O’Neill told The Telegraph: “It looks like cancel culture has finally met its match.

“The digital inquisition thought it could drag Murphy down but they’ve had a rude awakening.

“Loads of people are buying her album, firstly because it’s brilliant, and secondly because they want to show solidarity with a woman who was so ruthlessly and unfairly demonised by woke loons."

do we have to post all this shit we already know how it goes

Is it interfering with the clear-eyed assessment of the album that you bookmarked this thread for?

Andrew Farrell, Friday, 15 September 2023 10:16 (two years ago)

Interestingly the one post that she's liked pertaining to this whole saga is this one...

You've just given an apology to Glinner. It undermines your claims to be against people exploiting LGBT people for their own ends.

You also have most of the press to back you up, so hardly some voice in the wilderness. All you're doing is making the world worse for LGBT people.

well what do you suggest we use the Roisin Murphy thread for

I agree that it's all very depressing and predictable but venting about that is p much all there is at the moment imo

That sounds about right.

Monthly Python (Tom D.), Friday, 15 September 2023 10:38 (two years ago)

You more than anyone else, of course.

Monthly Python (Tom D.), Friday, 15 September 2023 10:42 (two years ago)

I was never more than a casual fan so rejecting the music was easy for me but now I have to hear about her terf baby steps every fucking day for some reason whereas before this I could go months without thinking of her (even though I liked who I imagined her to be)
