"To Ramona" by Bob Dylan is the most boring song ever and no, I don't care how good the lyrics are. I'd never heard the original until this morning: a minute and a half into the song I said out loud, "Oh fuck off", and turned it off.

Are there any songs on Another Side of Bob Dylan you don't find boring?

Never heard it. I don't listen to Bob Dylan albums as a rule.

Ok. Just curious why that song. To Romona is not exactly a big hit even among Dylan fans. But, ya know, its American folk music. A pretty big portion of American folk music has the basic formula of that song.

It's mostly because I've always really liked the third Flying Burrito Brothers album but it's disfigured by a cover of this dreary dirge and I kind of resent the fact that it's on there. Then I was listening to a Lee Hazlewood album the other day and he covered it too and I'm like, "Not this shite again!" It turns the original is even drearier than the covers into the bargain.

(xp) I gobble up 30 verse nine minute Martin Carthy (et al) trad. folk tunes but I just don't like Dylan doing the same thing.

I think To Ramona has potential - Sinead Lohan's version isn't bad.

When I play it, which I sometimes do, I cut out a lot of the more stilted backward phrasing and lose one or more verses.

Totally agree that His Bobness often lacks an inner editor, and the people surrounding him are not empowered to tell him when he's making a mistake.

I'll agree that it features probably one of the best Kirk's solos.

I do love saying LULU is my favorite Metallica album to hardcore stans and hear them lose their minds.

better roots rock bands than The Band: ZZ Top, The Stoneman Family, Thin Lizzy, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cowboy, Homer & Jethro, Little Feat, any episode of Hee Haw, Disney's Country Bear Jamboree.

I find all International Anthem releases other than Jamie Branch's to be tedious and not as groundbreaking as widely advertised. (Who remembers Thirsty Ears' Blue Series?)

One aspect of Lulu that I don't think people think about is that it was the first time in a while and the last time ever you got to hear Metallica play as an actual band with good production, not protooled within an inch of their lives

I’d 100% agree LULU is their best material in the past 25/30+ years.

Also more true for Metallica than for Lou Reed. There’s still gems in Raven and Ecstasy

I like a lot of International Anthem's early releases — Irreversible Entanglements, Junius Paul, Damon Locks, Makaya McCraven — but their recent indie-crossover stuff has been fucking dire.

The Thirsty Ear Blue Series deserves a second look, though. A lot of it was great.

Superunknown has more or less the same snare drum sound as St Anger but one is a classic while the other is St Anger.

But none of those albums after their first two made much impact beyond a critical one, and they were too anonymous -- too interested in music -- to be as grossly ubiquitous as CSN. Basically, the public knows them for "The Weight," and probably Aretha's.

Stagefright is great though, and as much as I'm skeptical of remixes of old albums, Robbie's new version was really great

The best thing about Master of Puppets is that it generated the utterly perfect spoonerism Pastor of Muppets. Never before or since has there been a better pair of phrases - one intended seriously and the other just plain silly, with a sly pop-culture reference.

For wordplay dorks like me it really was a sterfect porm.

"Hairway to Steven" is another pretty good one, imo
