It's been so long since whatever Amanda Palmer did to make so many people (including me) dislike her that I've got to admit ... I don't remember what it was. But I saw her years ago with the Dresden Dolls, and fair's fair, the band was good. They reunited/played at Riot Fest yesterday, and while I wasn't watching them, specifically, I caught a bit of their set, and ... it was pretty good again? They brought out Melissa Auf der Maur for a Beastie Boys cover:

yeah they are touring. I hate them. I love Melissa auf der Mar though.

I don't even think that highly of the Beastie Boys tbh but no I am not clicking on that, are you fucking crazy
I will not encourage such behaviour

the bit about having her future boyfriend (and his publicist) meet her in the park only for them to find what she was doing pretty cringe is something

You know--looking back on it, I feel really bad about marginalizing Amanda Palmer over her profanity. Hopefully I won't make that mistake in the future.
― Never fight uphill 'o me, boys! (President Keyes), Tuesday, 23 April 2024 16:11 (two years ago)
this is funny because when someone mentioned the performative cursing on this album the first person I thought about was Palmer, who does this to an extreme degree and it is so cringey and lame.
― I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Tuesday, 23 April 2024 16:15 (two years ago)
you know what else was released in the past week that has a lot of "fucks" dropped? the trailer for upcoming comic book movie Deadpool & Wolverine. undoubtedly it'll be the height of cinema and also culturally validate amanda palmer (in retrospect)

Kind of a bummer that Dresden Dolls shows are just AP reading transcripts from her obscenity trials.

I spent my lunch break looking at Amanda Palmer lyrics, many of which are indeed obscene, but not for reasons that have anything to do with cuss words.
I'm just gonna leave this Genius annotation trivia here:
"…I wrote that song in college, because there was this guy, I think he might still tour, called The Lonesome Organist. He was like a great sort of vaudeville-y one-man band. And his shtick was that he played, like, 12 different instruments, and he had them all in one contraption. So it was like a big, crazy drum set with keyboards and accordion, and things to blow in, and all sorts of stuff. I remember seeing him, because he toured at my college, and the name stuck. And I remember thinking, Lonesome Organist Rapes Page Turner would be a really hilarious newspaper heading…” — Amanda PalmerJeremy, The Lonesome Organist, was also interviewed, and he stated, “I always wondered if that band had some sort of vendetta against me. Now I know that that is not the case even if their song paints the lonesome organist name in a creepy unflattering manner. How freaking weird.”
Jeremy, The Lonesome Organist, was also interviewed, and he stated, “I always wondered if that band had some sort of vendetta against me. Now I know that that is not the case even if their song paints the lonesome organist name in a creepy unflattering manner. How freaking weird.”

just the juxtaposition of the whole amanda profanity rant and then jeremy's use of "freaking" over "fucking"... yeah, this is a high calibre revive. well done, everybody.
― interstellar anthropologist+music philosopher, (Austin), Tuesday, 23 April 2024 18:21 (two years ago)
Amanda Palmer's use of profanity is just slightly more pathetic than Joe Jonas having Lil Wayne guest on a remix on his first album knowing that it would get his album the parental advisory label

i guess it makes a fair bit of sense that palmer would be utterly credulous about the barely veiled fascism of death in june & boyd rice given that she has quite a history of obnoxious edge-lord shock value stuff despite just being a mediocre liberal?
