the one with the strokes guy is good, “lose yourself to dance” is good until the robots start going ‘cmon cmon cmon cmon cmon, “touch” is pretty incredible, the rest doesn’t move me. “Game of love” would be alright if they had gotten Lou gramm to sing it.

lol even though I don’t like the album (and kinda hate it conceptually), it does bum me out that ppl are cooling on it because i remember ilx went pretty crazy for it at the time and it was good vibes

kylie’s “can’t beat the feeling” is perhaps accidentally a vv slightly similar-sounding precursor to “get lucky” and it’s better. Should have been one of Aphrodite’s singles.

I got swept up in the RAM hype a bit but in the end it didn’t have the tunes or much that lingered. Homework is still my top daft punk.

I would still kinda bop around if I heard "Get Lucky" and have residual affection, but I am almost completely oblivious to mainstream radio and rarely encounter it in the wild so it's not too overplayed for me

the only Daft Punk album I ever wanna listen to anymore is Alive 2007. it astounds me that a group so tapped into the soul of the dance floor and the idea of electronic music as a living organism put out something so tepid and strung out. I mean RAM is definitely a good album but I'm worn out just thinking about putting it on again

yeah, Alive 2007 is the best Daft Punk album. I don't know if that's a controversial opinion, it certainly seems obvious to me. They just took all the best bits of their albums and mashed them together perfectly.

daft punk got lucky a few times by riding different waves of disco gentrification but their music is just not very interesting on the whole

someone will point out how popular [insert alleged daft punk banger here] was in gay clubs and I'll be like sure but that's part of the problem

is that something inherent to their music or a byproduct of their mass popularity?

Alive 2007 is also the only Daft Punk album I listen to, but I really only need 20-30 minutes of it. There's a LOT going on and I just want to move on to something else after a point.

Agree on both of those posts though I would say homework really is one I'll always have a soft spot for, it still sounds pretty fresh.

I get why people hate Pavement, but comparing them to Weezer feels completely bizarre to me. Beyond, yes, they are both made up of college educated white dudes playing guitar-based indie rock.

I never really bought into this interpretation of the vocal delivery as applied to Pavement. I hear it more in modern "indie" examples where it sounds like they're trying to sing without moving any facial muscles.

I don't really buy that that particular way of singing was really that widespread, so much 90s indie was really emotive

And even some of it was low-key or not exuberant, much of that style was very much engaged with the emotions of the songs
