The Clueless soundtrack is mentioned several times ITT, but worth noting that it went platinum and had three(?) original singles… two of which were (good) covers of ‘70s/‘80s songs, and one of which was Jill Sobule’s “Supermodel.” I think the acoustic Radiohead song may also be exclusive, but not sure.

Apparently the head of Capitol let them put No Doubt’s “Just a Girl” in the movie, but not on the soundtrack… that song, and the band, blew up a few months later.

Not too weird for a Coyote Ugly-type bar. Also, a bit further South maybe, you would have heard Dr. Dre, Alan Jackson, and "November Rain," likely back to back to back.

The Coneheads

1 Magic Carpet Ride - Slash, Michael Monroe
2 Tainted Love - Soft Cell

"Up Against the Wind" (runtime – 4:28), sung by Lori Perri and produced by Christopher Young, is not included in the soundtrack.[12]

I didn't remember so many tracks that long; they didn't seem too long at all.
General agreement on that:

he soundtrack was released on September 24, 1996, by East West Records and featured production from several of hip hop and R&B's top producers, such as Organized Noize, DJ U-Neek and DJ Rectangle. The soundtrack was a huge success, making it to number four on the Billboard 200 and number three on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. It featured seven charting singles: "Set It Off", "Don't Let Go (Love)", "Days of Our Livez", "Angel", "Come On", "Let It Go" and "Missing You". All of the singles had music videos made for them. The track "The Heist" by Da 5 Footaz also had a music video made, even though it was not released as a single. On November 12, 1996, the album was certified platinum by the RIAA.
Oranzized Noize got several co-writes on here.

Set It Off became known as a staple in urban cinema as a cult classic.[13] The film was also the center of many parodies and attracted spoofs in television, YouTube and social media alike with creators and actors recreating memorable scenes from the movie, particularly the rooftop scene; Stony's desperate decision to obtain money for her brother; the fight between Cleo and Stony and the final standoff scene...

Then there was the stage version, Off-Broadway and touring for several years, with various casts starring for inst Da Brat, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Lil Mo--quite an extensive article:

People really understate just how garbage Bostaph-era Slayer was. The more I think about it the more I feel like Dave Lombardo was the most important member of that band. He wasn't just a 1000x better/more interesting drummer; he inspired them to write better songs.

Cow_Art, Thursday, 23 February 2023 12:24 (one year ago) link

The X files movie soundtrack was the only good thing about that movie. Even the Sting song is ok. And no idea if that Noel Gallagher is the Oasis one - I’ll assume it is - but even that song is interesting, albeit sounding extremely late 90’s. It’s not rock and sounds nothing like Oasis - it’s closer to idk Craig Armstrong iirc - so maybe it’s not that Noel Gallagher.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 23 February 2023 14:09 (one year ago) link

Keeping with the style of the times, the Filter track on the movie soundtrack is a Nilsson/Three Dog Night cover, the X (geddit?) song is a Doors cover, and Sting is redoing a Police track.

Although The X-Files: The Album is the soundtrack to the 1998 film The X-Files, only one of the album's songs—"Crystal Ship" by X—is actually heard during the film, briefly playing on a jukebox during a brief scene, while "Teotihuacan" by Noel Gallagher and "Walking After You" by Foo Fighters play over the ending credits. The album's producer, David Was, intended to match the film's tone rather than using the songs as content, leading to several of the artists involved contributing material which would seem "uncharacteristically eerie" compared to their usual work.

...

The inclusion of a track by the group Ween was spurred by fact that The X-Files star David Duchovny had first met then-wife Téa Leoni through their mutual appreciation for the group
