As long as it's not Bobby Gillespie to "return the favour" it'll be ok. Maybe a return of flautist from Loveless tour?

flautist?...what the...flautist?!...I seen 'em twice on the Loveless tour, and I ain't seen no flautist!

henry s, Sunday, 2 August 2009 17:39 (sixteen years ago)

henry, you made me wonder if I had a false memory event, but no:

Anna Quimby: MBV's flautist

when I saw them at Birmingham Institute for the Loveless tour she dealt with the high <ahem> flutey sample sounds that are all over the album. Did you see them in the UK or elsewhere, maybe she didn't tour overseas?

Bill A, Sunday, 2 August 2009 17:50 (sixteen years ago)

high-fallutin' samples

A litany of humorous comments from Tool fans regarding MBV's live performance (apparently, they had to sit through MBV to see Tool immediately afterward at All Points West NY this weekend):

Fuser0118 (1 day ago)
these people sucked!!

brohan914 (23 hours ago)
I was there, and I didn't really get these guys

PiePie1992 (22 hours ago)
This band sucked ass.

HoboCabbage (17 hours ago)
i guess im not artsy enough to enjoy this, i thought it sounded like a wall of suck

dancingshoesx505 (17 hours ago)
This band was awful! They just made a shitload of crap noise and you couldn't even hear them sing. On top of that they looked like zombies!!!
nobody wanted to see their shitty performance!

PiePie1992 (28 minutes ago)
I also liked Gogol Bordello and The Arctic Monkeys. Leading into it I thought I would enjoy MBV. Guess not.
But you're right, I'm a Tool fan, I'm just a closed minded dickhead.

Those are from YouTube, btw.

Few forms are discourse are lower than the YouTube comment.

kshighway, Monday, 3 August 2009 17:50 (sixteen years ago)

I like Lateralus, but Tool's entire discography doesn't even come close to what MBV accomplished with Loveless.

kshighway, Monday, 3 August 2009 17:51 (sixteen years ago)

One half-decent MBV picture from All Points West on P4K: http://pitchfork.com/news/36093-report-all-points-west-liberty-state-park-nj-073109-080209/

kshighway, Monday, 3 August 2009 17:52 (sixteen years ago)

One friend told me a decent amount of Tool fans had their middle fingers in the air from the 2-3 minute point of the "noise wall" onward.

billstevejim, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 14:02 (sixteen years ago)

How surprising!

I wonder if their arms got tired.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 14:16 (sixteen years ago)

funny, i only know one heavy Tool fan, and he loves MBV.

tylerw, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 14:26 (sixteen years ago)

Tool's drummer should have soloed over the noise bit.

Yeah I'm a little surprised at there being such a huge audience split -- a little, not completely. Sure seems like a lot of newer metal bands love both equally. (Cue Chuck E. posting about why said love is the problem with modern metal...)

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 14:36 (sixteen years ago)

hee hee, Tool just played a big festival out here, and I think they went on after .... Widespread Panic. Wonder if there were any middle fingers during that set.

tylerw, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 14:37 (sixteen years ago)

Tool fans are an insular, tribal sort. I bet it had less to do with MBV and more to do with the fact that it was not Tool.

Anyone know how Tool fans reacted to King Crimson, Isis, Meshuggah and other past opening acts?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 14:49 (sixteen years ago)

http://randazza.files.wordpress.com/2009/02/middle-finger.jpg

tylerw, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 14:51 (sixteen years ago)

maybe not though ... might be a different thing if it's a festival setting or if it's a band that the mighty Tool have deigned worthy to open for them.

tylerw, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 14:53 (sixteen years ago)

btw, MBV were pretty excellent last night at the Way Out West festival in Göteborg, Sweden.

ConnieXX, Sunday, 16 August 2009 10:57 (sixteen years ago)

I saw tool once b/c a friend had an extra ticket she couldn't get rid of. Tomahawk opened for them. There was a lot of heckling and middle fingers, but I'm not sure how much of that was because Mike Patton wouldn't stop insulting the audience and hoe much was because tool fans are dicks.
ps-tool were boring. The only show I've ever fallen asleep at.

Fetchboy, Sunday, 16 August 2009 12:14 (sixteen years ago)

So, as the "wall" is part of the last song, were the tool fans fingerhappy during the rest of the set?

Mark G, Monday, 17 August 2009 10:31 (sixteen years ago)

one month passes...

Apologies if this has already been posted somewhere (it would take forever to check all the MBV posts on all the threads):
