Yes, love VTB. They are from the next city over from me so I got to see them a couple of times back in the day. Always had my favourites but looking at their discography on bandcamp there's so much I never heard, lots to explore.

I'm a big fan of the Volfur/Volseptor/Volnono/etc live series

wooow love VTB, very cool

If I've never listened to VTB, what should I start with?

The first one I heard was Yak Folks Y'Are and it made me fall in love with them instantly.

emil.y, Monday, 17 April 2023 16:02 (one year ago) link

Not my favorite Bear but certainly a Bear. I think Five Hundred Boy Piano and The Mountains Among Us are the big favs, at least among the Spock-hairs I went to college with. I also rate Classic Erasmus Fusion, Yak Folks Y'Are, and Golden Rhythm/Ink Music. They're great live.

Xii, Monday, 17 April 2023 16:05 (one year ago) link

i get this thread title stuck in my head all the time

Yak Folks is great, my personal fave is Amidst The Noise And Twigs, 500 Boy Piano and Classic Erasmus Fusion are also very good

^^no daw involved in this analog performance piece but I dunno which rolling thread it fits? takes a while to load but it's a very cool web-only interactive video of a percussionist unwrapping and playing a chinese spouting bowl, some great asmr sounds along the way but also just crazy resonances especially if you choose the distant mikes (from around 27mins in)

"Each episode is based on a found tape of a pre-recorded slideshow commentary. Most of these tapes were made by amateur tape recording enthusiasts and hobbyist photographers of the 60s and 70s. Their recorded commentaries would at one time have been used in conjunction with a sequence of 35mm slides but only the taped voices now remain. The recordings themselves come from Vernon’s own archive of found reel-to-reel tapes that he has collected over the past twenty years."

Possibly belonged on the non-bobbins club thread. I don't know. You and your confusing ways. But it certainly isn't hypergarbage

imago, Friday, 29 September 2023 14:46 (seven months ago) link

can i post my new quirked up garbage or is posting your own art still taboo as it was with old ilm …

Go for it. Here's my new quirked up ambient folk post-rock DAW-guitar & drums duet album that came out today - https://thetrilogytapes.bandcamp.com/album/gurum-triads

wow this is so lovely and restrained, so far. i felt quite 'seen' by the tweet that gave this thread its title. in any case, here is my similarly acoustic guitar foregrounding record

Thank you! I enjoyed your preview track (would like to hear the whole thing), love the title & concept. It reminds me a bit of Organ Tapes' recent work.

a few things from today:

Ly Trang- Syenite
https://lytrang.bandcamp.com/album/syenite
She's a member of Run Cap– has a "fourth world" quality that is really compelling, drones and creaks and birdsong and moments of trancelike meditation. weird shit.

Jacob Becker- Pure Thoughts
https://jacobbecker.bandcamp.com/album/pure-thoughts
Deeply fucked up music that basically fits this thread title perfectly— a guy and an acoustic guitar processed to smithereens. Really cool.

is this the new time travel weird music thread? This Bureau B compilation is tripping me out. Weird German DIY stuff, maybe sort of like if early piano magic were German??

https://bureaub.bandcamp.com/track/gespensterland

Over the last ten years a strange mycelium was sprouting from the ground of Germany’s sound topography, going widely unnoticed while creeping its way up through the copse of the ubiquitous “Neo-Kraut”, “Diskurs-Pop” and the like. We’re talking about a small underground network of artists and projects with poetic, mysterious names such as Brannten Schnüre, Baldruin, Kirschstein, Freundliche Kreisel and Balint Brösel. Operating in the margins and intersections of folklore, experimental electronics, dreams and nightmares, the “Gespensterland” LP archives and compiles their magic works for the very first time and already today it stands as a contemporary testament with an auratic presence comparable to that of Pordenone’s “Great Complotto”.

i will contribute something new but - sorry to be sappy - i really have to say thanks to anyone who dug my record. a bit agog it even got into people's feeds somehow. honestly, i think getting a thumbs up on ilm means i can retire now ...

anyways. a bit less gloppy but two sick experimental records:

UCC Harlo - avant chamberpop/composition, on subtext (ran cap and ly treng labelmates), totally great: https://uccharlo.bandcamp.com/album/topos

Nascent scene of reverse-engineering the pop ambient series through a collapsitarian lens, is as close as i can get to understanding this, but the deleted label is putting out some interesting stuff:

https://deletedeletedeleted.bandcamp.com/album/wish <-- from 2020 but i feel that this crew is currently pretty active; here's some 2023 stuff:

definitely cross-ref with 'music that sounds like mono no aware' thread

the chuquimamani-condori (aka elysia crampton) album is the most gorgeous chaotic mess i have heard in a long time.

yes it’s AOTY material. chaotic but extremely emotionally resonant and intentional.

ha, indeed; cam’s actually a friend of mine too, but a person of such integrity that I’m sure that has nothing to do with his kind and otm words. he runs an amazing music festival called send and receive that anyone interested in this thread should check out!

this chuquimamani-condori record is so friggin good, thanks a lot for bringing it to my attention!
I have heard some Elysia Crampton in 2020, but I guess now it's time for a deep dive.
