It took me until now to notice that in "Wintering" Matty rhymes "old" with "old," which either means it's skillfully done or I'm exceptionally slow.

I love how Matty plays the guitar as if he just noticed it strapped to his shoulder.

i know this is a well-worn sentiment at this point - and to each their own and all that - but i can't believe someone stood at that spot at that show and filmed for 90 minutes. i feel sad for them, if i'm honest.

yeah I remember a Healy complaint along the lines of “rappers are the only stars who are allowed to be masculine these days” and it felt like a little reactionary tremor

good but kinda weird show tonight. they didn't have the set with the house (i assume logistical constraints) and matty began by explaining that the show was not the "at their very best" show as advertised and was instead "a theatrical performance of an intimate moment" (i think?) and opened with "be my mistake" alone before doing the whole drinking/smoking routine he'd been doing in the middle of the "at their very best" show except he didn't even try to maintain character, seemed to be some weird meta-commentary on the previous tour legs?

then they did "looking for somebody (to love)" and it was just a regular show with no further gimmicks. setlist sequencing was kinda all over the place & i wish they did more from the last two albums - they didn't even do "part of the band" or the new "the 1975" & they played more from abiior than bfiafl. we at least got "tonight" (which sounded wonderful) as well as "if you're too shy" from notes, but other shows recently got "me & you together song", "roadkill" and "the birthday party" too so i'm a little disappointed there. they've really levelled up as a live band with the expanded lineup at least - the new "paris" arrangement is gorgeous and they've finally figured out how to play "ugh!" properly live (previous live recordings i'd heard never seemed to do it justice).

unfortunately felt a bit too reminiscent of their show from the abiior tour overall at times with how many they played from that album, & most of the same old hits as before.

some top tier stage banter from matty too: apparently there's a meme going around comparing him to 'the rat from flushed away' so he revealed that his godfather co-wrote flushed away & actually somewhat based that character on him?

I couldn’t care less who Matty is dating but it does concern me that the band will continue to be in Jack Antonoff’s sphere for the ongoing future

not inclined to put a lot of stock in that story until there's solid evidence given false rumours of them dating were already a thing in the press like a decade ago, before they'd even met lol
