Is there always so much bobbins nominated?

So many great discoveries this year

groovypanda, Thursday, 19 January 2023 10:20 (one year ago) link

I will be submitting a ballot later today

Goose Bigelow, Fowl Gigolo (the table is the table), Thursday, 19 January 2023 12:28 (one year ago) link

Voted! I feel like my ballots are a bit haphazard but they probably always are. Also, poll-runners, I snuck in one tiny write-in, feel free to ignore if you have to, nobody else will vote for it anyway I just wanted to include it.

emil.y, Thursday, 19 January 2023 16:37 (one year ago) link

voted. Are we getting acknowledgments, I forget?

Just an albums poll. I leave the tracks to the other clever people. Looking forward to find what I've missed before...

The Most wonderful time of the year.

kraudive, Thursday, 19 January 2023 17:58 (one year ago) link

Way too busy to have gone through the nominees, no vote from me this year but I look forward to the rollout!

Why in the shit didn't I (or someone else) nominate Looking For Somebody (To Love)?

my tracks list is a mixed bag of recent and long-since-beloved but the album list was a sophie's choice once i got it down to 40. i doubt i'd deliver the same ballot tomorrow.

I hesitate to look back at mine, my #1 album pick was essentially random

rob, Thursday, 19 January 2023 19:15 (one year ago) link

yeah that's why i close my year-end list the minute i publish it on my personal blog lol. tho still, my ilx ballot was a little different, due to a smidge of strategic voting and one or two things i forgot to nom

sault bae (voodoo chili), Thursday, 19 January 2023 19:30 (one year ago) link

january is a big discovery period for me, i'd just prefer it to be all fun and not worry too much about where these new-to-me songs would fall on a list

Three things on my track list which I discovered from the nominations list. Doechii, FireCityFunk, Nosaj Thing ft. Juliana Barwick

Dan Worsley, Thursday, 19 January 2023 19:41 (one year ago) link

what's the deal with stuff like reissues/rarities comps/etc on the albums poll? were they allowed or not?

na (NA), Thursday, 19 January 2023 19:56 (one year ago) link

bc i see some that look to be old stuff that has been rereleased or released for the first time, but no nominated the pj harvey b-sides/demos/rarities comp?

na (NA), Thursday, 19 January 2023 19:56 (one year ago) link

anyways i sent in a very un-thought-out and cursed albums poll ballot

na (NA), Thursday, 19 January 2023 19:57 (one year ago) link

Would like a side poll for reissues. Maybe next year?

Dan Worsley, Thursday, 19 January 2023 20:00 (one year ago) link

wow, did nobody nominate Doechii's Persuasive? I was sure i saw that on the list or I woulda! weird oversight until just now.

Clarification: Are ballots due 10 hours from now or 34 hours from now?

xp yes the Rachika record is great! Didn't make my ballot but I might have regrets on that

octobeard, Thursday, 19 January 2023 22:25 (one year ago) link

Also don't overlook Marina Herlop's album Pripyat too! That one made mine

From someone who is usually a procrastinator, the voting always ends Midnight on Friday Night. But even that usually is extended a few hours after that as seandalai is usually sleeping when it's that late in San Francisco.

Bee OK, Friday, 20 January 2023 02:12 (one year ago) link

Albums basically done but tracks, as ever, proving to be a nightmare to cut to just 25

Last day to vote!

mixed ballot is the way to go, i can't stand seeing a song i absolutely love finish with 1 vote for 1 point lol

sault bae (voodoo chili), Friday, 20 January 2023 14:31 (one year ago) link

When y'all were talking about the Rachika Nayar album I was not expecting an instrumental power ambient album with synths and guitars with infinite reverb. What's the backstory there, how did she get popular? It reminds me Mogwai or Godspeed without drums.

change display name (Jordan), Friday, 20 January 2023 15:25 (one year ago) link

Also I'm not the indie rock guy here but I'm surprised that albums by Dear Nora and Second Grade weren't on the noms list.

change display name (Jordan), Friday, 20 January 2023 15:27 (one year ago) link

"power ambient" otm lol

maf you one two (maffew12), Friday, 20 January 2023 15:44 (one year ago) link

my ears are exhausted

just generally

though I'm probably especially deaf for ambient now. A few more pop tracks moving up a tracks ballot might be all i can muster at this point

maf you one two (maffew12), Friday, 20 January 2023 15:48 (one year ago) link

aag but this Anna Butterss record is so good!

maf you one two (maffew12), Friday, 20 January 2023 15:59 (one year ago) link

i should have nominated dear nora :(

i was raving about her 2021 record and no one seemed to care, her rise in popularity surprised me too

Goose Bigelow, Fowl Gigolo (the table is the table), Friday, 20 January 2023 16:31 (one year ago) link

The Rachika Nayar is a massive, immersive listen. Sequenced to take you on a complete journey, and a great comedown album. Post-rock with synths isn't too bad a descriptor, actually!

Indexed, Friday, 20 January 2023 16:35 (one year ago) link

Dear Nora album is fantastic btw

change display name (Jordan), Friday, 20 January 2023 17:07 (one year ago) link

The title track of the Nayar album is a monster.

Just listened to the Water Gun Sky Attack track. Too late now but that would definitely have filled the 'Scott Walker being fed into a blender' shaped hole in my voting form.

lmfao sorry

what i MEANT to write was: I would have absolutely nominated and voted for the Tyshawn Sorey Trio 3-disc record— came out too late in the year for me to give it a listen, it is really good
