ILM's 2022 End of Year Tracks & Albums Poll / VOTING THREAD

yeah i think it was an unusually strong year

my final missive is surface to air. indie isn't dead, but you might not be looking in all the right places. this belongs in some sort of gallery imo, it is another staggeringly beautiful work by a widely-ignored master, it feels like it belongs out of time, or in all times at once

Anyone pick out a Sault record? Not sure I'll get room for any, but for me it's the Little Simz album.

I like Today & Tomorrow and Untitled (God) most (or at least I've listened to them the most) - enjoyment of the latter does depend on tolerance for God content

Earth is my favorite, followed by 11. Sault definitely going to suffer here from having too many good albums.

Untitled (God) is the one whose track grab my attention most often. Earth and 11 are also under consideration.

Kind of wish I nominated Dummy - Mandatory Enjoyment, not sure why I missed that one

just voted, listened to way less current stuff than usual in 2022 so about half my tracks ballot is stuff I discovered while listening to the nominated tracks the last couple of weeks. Makes an interesting ballot I think. (I briefly considered voting only for stuff I discovered in the nominations, but there's a couple of things I really wanted to vote for that I already knew about).

Agree with those who said Untitled (God) is the strongest of the SAULT releases. Second half in particular.

Do it Brad! I have a feeling we'll be down on numbers again this year, so personal choices may have a bigger influence. (No insider knowledge here, just a gut feeling).

my tracks list is a mixed bag of recent and long-since-beloved but the album list was a sophie's choice once i got it down to 40. i doubt i'd deliver the same ballot tomorrow.

I hesitate to look back at mine, my #1 album pick was essentially random

yeah that's why i close my year-end list the minute i publish it on my personal blog lol. tho still, my ilx ballot was a little different, due to a smidge of strategic voting and one or two things i forgot to nom

january is a big discovery period for me, i'd just prefer it to be all fun and not worry too much about where these new-to-me songs would fall on a list

what's the deal with stuff like reissues/rarities comps/etc on the albums poll? were they allowed or not?

bc i see some that look to be old stuff that has been rereleased or released for the first time, but no nominated the pj harvey b-sides/demos/rarities comp?
