Yes breastcrawl! That’s the song that I heard and floored me. I think I heard it some months ago and didn’t make much of an impression at the time but today it clicked. Regret not voting for it.

ah dang Safe Haven might actually be my favourite too. at any rate it's the perfect follow-up to Never Forget, a great moment on that album

rob, Wednesday, 11 January 2023 18:48 (three years ago)

I think I’ve played “never forget” 8 times already today.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 11 January 2023 23:04 (three years ago)

Hi, just noticed another error on the albums list:

Soshi Takeda - Same Place Another Time is listed twice, the other erroneously as soichi takeda - same place, another time

Fire-Toolz was sounding quite nice and then at just over three minutes the vocals came in

groovypanda, Thursday, 12 January 2023 10:17 (three years ago)

re: Omah Lay - if I'd been practive enough to submit a suggestion's ballot, I'd have definitely entered "I'm A Mess". It's absolutely excellent and something I've been able to relate to a lot this year

Urbandn hope all ye who enter here (dog latin), Thursday, 12 January 2023 10:39 (three years ago)

The truth is that the album really deserves votes.

Favourite discovery of the nominations thread has been 'Jolene' by Victony, such a great track.

I’ve written about this on the hypergarbage thread— I just can’t with the vocals.

Regarding Sudan Archives: I know “Home Maker” is a good song and probably everyone’s favorite but “Freakalizer” is the one that I would get excited to see in the top 77.

"Freakalizer" will be in my top two

fleeting art that floats! (geoffreyess), Thursday, 12 January 2023 14:18 (three years ago)

I voted for both

Nabozo, Thursday, 12 January 2023 14:26 (three years ago)

forkslovetofu - re: Abel Selacoe. I didn't nominate the album but nommed a track off it. I saw him support Ballake Sissoko & Vincent Segal at The Roundhouse at the beginning of last year. He was amazing - a great performer.

bobot, Thursday, 12 January 2023 16:19 (three years ago)

his whole Outlaw EP is very good (esp. “Soweto” and “Apollo”), I nominated it for the Albums poll.

the shaker intro bit the shaker outro in the tail, hard (breastcrawl), Thursday, 12 January 2023 16:36 (three years ago)

bobot: whole album is amazing! Really a great find. I don't think he's known in America at all yet.

Today in "would have nominated and voted for it if I'd known about it" - São Paulo's Tim Bernardes, writer of gorgeous songs like this one. It was on the Aquarium Drunkard list, I just misssed it.

Chris L, Thursday, 12 January 2023 18:48 (three years ago)

I don't follow Kpop so NewJeans is new to me, but "Ditto" is 100% going in my top 10 tracks. Thx Kpop crew!

I'm finding a bunch of great tracks tonight from the campaigning. Crunch time!

I'll campaign for one thing, cuz it looks like I might be alone on what's probably my #1 album (far and away most played), Wednesday Campanella's "Neon". Just some deliriously happy dance music that kicks my ass through workouts, pretty much! For tracks, I nommed the (tiktok) hit but whatever here's the one that slams hardest:

Thanks to whoever nominated "in|FLUX" by Anna B Savage. It reminds me a bit of Nicolette and Mara Carlyle. Love it.

This could be the Anz 'You Could Be' of 2022?

Also not the White Lotus theme on the track noms list?

I swear Selema Po Po is the best track ever. At least today it is. (And yes, I nommed it)

Playing tracks poll on shuffle, ‘Dishintegration’ by Staubitz and Waterhouse has came up. 10 minutes into it, does anything happen?

Wow this album rules!! Bless whoever nommed it <3

TWELVE Michelob stars?!? (seandalai), Saturday, 14 January 2023 01:43 (three years ago)

Really struggling to put things in order this year - I know I can do an unranked ballot but I usually like to at least do a mixed one and award a 'best of year' to someone. It's tough.

Cristobal Tapia De Veer - Renaissance (Main Title Theme)

johnny crunch, Saturday, 14 January 2023 14:16 (three years ago)

xp Rosalia. Having trouble on the bottom half. Like the rollout, that's the fun of it anyway.

maf you one two (maffew12), Saturday, 14 January 2023 14:34 (three years ago)

Haven’t seen the results yet. Best track of the year will probably be Somewhere Near Marseilles… for albums I’d bet on Motomami or Natural Brown Prom Queen but maybe it will be that Beyonce thing.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Saturday, 14 January 2023 16:23 (three years ago)

Oh wait I forgot the Big Thief thing lol. That’s the #1 isn’t it?

The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Saturday, 14 January 2023 16:28 (three years ago)

good chance for Big Thief. Would be big for a January release!

Tried with Sudan Archives a few times, one of those things that sounds like it's up my street but completely eludes me.

maf you one two (maffew12), Saturday, 14 January 2023 16:37 (three years ago)

I liked her previous album but found the new one dull

rob, Saturday, 14 January 2023 16:39 (three years ago)

Seems like Real Lies have a real shot at #1 LP

nashwan, Saturday, 14 January 2023 16:48 (three years ago)

Would absolutely love that but don't think it'll happen

groovypanda, Saturday, 14 January 2023 16:53 (three years ago)

I'm absolutely assuming Big Thief will win this.

emil.y, Saturday, 14 January 2023 16:58 (three years ago)

I almost feel bad saying that Big Thief was easily my favorite and most listened to album this year, so if I manage to get my ballot together that's one more vote in their direction.

Muad'Doob (Moodles), Saturday, 14 January 2023 17:07 (three years ago)

it's like three posts worth of time

Haven't seen any mention of this, so I'll mention it. My favorite political song of the year, just a classic riot-grrl blast, from an album that happened to drop the same day as the Dobbs decision. (Not on purpose as far as I know, they're not even an American band.)

A bit late I realise, but I thought I'd campaign for my LP nominees that aren't on Spotify (and I think are only on Bandcamp). I've added links to the albums below and also done a mini bndcmpr.co playlist, which you can find here:
https://bndcmpr.co/80941c71

The Pattern Forms - 'The Scenic Route'
This studio group is made up of Cate Brooks (The Advisory Circle), Ed and Edd from Friendly Fires, and Tom Moth. A modern day library/mood music album, focussing on pastoral and romantic themes (with a Lindstrøm-esque tune to finish). Harp, analogue synthesisers plus drums, guitar textures and orchestral elements. First released digitally in May 2021, but the year of impact was definitely last year when the vinyl edition arrived.
https://thepatternforms.bandcamp.com/album/the-scenic-route

clocolan - 'Empathy Alpha'
Part soundtrack, part audio play, the LP contains five discrete cinematic scenes with electronic backing and interludes. Structured on a 9x9x9 numerical matrix, the music is inspired by sci-fi soundtracks of the 70s and 80s. Some excellent voice acting creates some really disturbing moments.
https://clocolan.bandcamp.com/album/empathy-alpha

D. Rothon - 'East Of The Sun' EP
Recorded live at Café OTO on 15 January 2022 as part of a Clay Pipe Music showcase night. Four serene pieces that particularly glow when Rothon's pedal steel takes centre stage.
https://lonesomedepot.bandcamp.com/album/east-of-the-sun-live-at-cafe-oto

Onepointwo - 'Music For Spaces'
Electronic music from a Greek musician I really rate. This album is described as "a personal homage to our endless effort to create personal spaces in order to decompress from the madness of everyday life. Created with a lot of electronic genres in mind".
https://onepointwo.bandcamp.com/album/music-for-spaces

Henning Zinoviev & Floating Candles - 'Die Nude For Satan'
One of those imaginary soundtracks to an alleged lost exploitation/horror movie from the 70s, the master tapes for which were recently "rediscovered". Bad-trip psych heaviness and folk horror, electric sitar/tabla and sinister synths. One of the more effective stabs at this genre in my opinion.
https://libraryoftheoccult.bandcamp.com/album/die-nude-for-satan

Sinneslochen.Inc - 'P O L Y B I U S'
More of the above, only this time it's a lost video game soundtrack. The pitch: "1981. A small town arcade takes delivery of a new game, Polybius. Released onto an un-suspecting youth, the game delivers both excitement and intrigue with multiple levels of mind bending puzzles. Popularity reaches fever pitch. One month after its release, Polybius disappears without trace. Stories begin to emerge of players experiencing psychoactive side effects ranging from seizures to insomnia, night terrors to hallucinations…"
https://burningwitchesrecords.bandcamp.com/album/p-o-l-y-b-i-u-s

Sproatly Smith - 'River Wye Suite'
Eight years in the making. A tribute to the geography, lore and people who live on and by the river that shapes Herefordshire’s countryside. The completion of the album also provides a chance to protest the fact that the river is slowly dying from pollution, thanks mainly to the expansion of chicken factories in the Wye valley. Dreamy folk-rock with field recordings and poetry interwoven.
https://sproatlysmith.bandcamp.com/album/river-wye-suite

Kayla Painter - 'Planet 9'
More electronica from a talented UK musician, described by her as "a journey to the hypothetical planet on the outer reaches of our solar system". This is actually a cassette compilation of 3 new tracks and some older tracks from 2020-21 that did not previously exist in any physical state. But it's probably her most coherent statement so far.
https://kaylapainter.bandcamp.com/album/planet-9-2

Ok I thought I was really smart by being among the first to vote and now there's a few humble changes I'd like to make

Nabozo, Sunday, 15 January 2023 15:14 (three years ago)

Just noticed Free Mind by Tems is on the list. Is that correct as it came out on 2020?

groovypanda, Sunday, 15 January 2023 15:22 (three years ago)

Oh shit, I somehow completely missed/forgot about Water Gun Water Gun Sky Attack and almost left it off my ballot! Glad I did another full-list scan before settling on my list, that was a major favourite I almost ignored.
