LINGUA IGNOTA (now known as Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter)

okay, I'm gonna do an overnight trip to Montreal for this.

Will see the Philly show, God willing.

I made it to the Lingua Ignota show in Montreal on Sunday, along with our thread-starter who I got to meet for the first time. It was wonderful. The opening was absolutely perfect. The lights went down, the room was totally dark, with a low background hum of insects buzzing and chirping. Everyone was looking towards the stage. Then there was a shuffling in the crowd next to us, and suddenly she was right there; she turned on this bright lamp and went into "O Death".

We probably had roughly the same setlist as Moodles, minus the sermon. The second set was mostly songs from Sinner Get Ready, and a few from Caligula. Some astonishing moments, especially on songs like "I Am the One Who Bends the Tall Grasses" where she shifts through so many different vocal registers.

Hello friends, I am here presenting my new release SAVED! under my given name, jazzed up a smidge, as I say goodnight to Lingua Ignota for the foreseeable future. I am proud of the work I’ve done with Lingy but it is time to evolve personally & artistically, & in this project you will hear tributaries followed from previously walked paths, & new directions taken entirely, yet I am what I am still.

This record is about undoing and rebuilding, the complex process of healing, made analogous to evangelical conversion. It is spartan, but there are deep & intentional reads to be found in its sonics & its messaging. It is quite unhinged. It is, at different times: funny, despairing, full of hope, and full of terror. It may not resonate with all Lingy lovers, but I hope it hits a chord with some of you. Regardless I thank you all for your support for what is and what has been.

Lingua Ignota's msuic never really quite struck me as much as it did some of you, but I'm really into this direction

so it seems like this is basically the studio version of the medley of hymns I mentioned in my concert recap above, first track sounds great!

This is pretty hilarious to me because I've been scratching my head for months over the idea that she's abandoning Lingua Ignota and going for something less personally traumatic. Like what is she going to do, maybe dabble in future pop? Was this really just a persona that she can put on and take off, because it felt really personal? But of course it's just the exact same thing, literally music she was already performing as Lingua Ignota, maybe a fraction less dark and intense than her previous albums.

First track, with the volume dropping in and out... sound wobbling around (did the electricity just go out for a sec? do I need a new laptop?)... is such a damn joy.

honestly could have done with a bit less of that, but the album is great overall
