To listen to her is to make peace with the fact that she says fucked up things and is irresponsible
She's the original Azealia Banks
― raven, Saturday, 15 October 2022 01:14 (one year ago) link
Even her, like, dissociated drawly delivery suggests profound irresponsibility. Chaos is the brand.

A very problematic idea of “cool” for sure, as ilx discussed at length in like 2006 or something

She cites the example of the movement to defund the police in the US, suggesting that this will cause poverty and hardship. “Even [with] the police force, who we’re supposed to not like, you had people losing their livelihoods and losing their jobs and can’t pay rent, families losing their houses because they’re threatened with this choice of following orders or not following orders,” she says. “That is actually really happening on our doorstep, like this is not happening in Sri Lanka, this is happening in the west, this is happening in your neighbourhood.”

I can't and won't listen to this.
― Bee OK, Saturday, 15 October 2022 04:24 (one year ago) link
I agree with the consensus, it's a good M.I.A. record with some classic M.I.A. bangers. Sometimes too obvious or redundant, but at least there's no track called "Lab Leak Theory" or anything. My son actually put it on in the car this morning, I wasn't even aware it was out. It's funny, he loved M.I.A. and "Bird Flu" in particular when he was like 3. But he's only recently circled back around to her, he thinks she's interesting. We both thought it was pretty good.

OH GOOD.
Grimes & M.I.A. talk spirituality, cryptocurrency, politics and more in new interview
(Honestly, the thing that bugs me the most is that the headline contains both an ampersand and the word "and" typed out. Pick one.)

It's a pity this album is, as tipsy pointed out, good, her best since 2010 even when "Keep the Peace" bites "Paper Planes" hard.

tbh M.I.A.'s shtick/persona has always been this amoral global hustler, and Candace Owens is that.
― a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Monday, 31 October 2022 15:01 (one year ago) link
Nah, if that was the case she'd be posing for pictures with Gary Vaynerchuck. Candace Owens may be a grifter, but her specific grift is reactionary politics and grudge warfare. By positioning herself with Owens, M.I.A. is branding herself as a reactionary culture-war asshole, full stop.
― but also fuck you (unperson), Monday, 31 October 2022 15:10 (one year ago) link
Yeah “global hustler” sure but “amoral” no way, her personal has always been founded on scolding “ARE YOU EVEN AWARE THAT” lectures delivered from a perceived moral high ground.

azealia banks is a delusional conspiracy theorist but she wasn't antivax (supposedly she wrote on instagram “I got vaccinated in April in Miami, and got my second shot in May in NYC. .... just because I like to share my sometimes stupid opinions doesn’t mean that I’m ACTUALLY an idiot.”)

idk m.i.a. turning out like this isn't remotely surprising to me. i mean come on, remember maya? and around that time anytime she'd face the slightest setback (e.g. having certain uploads of the "born free" video 'banned' age-restricted) she'd go directly into they're-out-to-get-me mode on her social media

EMF is electromagnetic fields.
Per Wikipedia:
Electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS) is a claimed sensitivity to electromagnetic fields, to which negative symptoms are attributed. EHS has no scientific basis and is not a recognized medical diagnosis, although it is generally accepted that the experience of EHS symptoms is of psychosomatic origin.
