Ah, darn. Peterson says album, but don't know for sure he's right...

who knows with them, maybe it'll be out later or just not on streaming
― ufo, Monday, 10 October 2022 05:01 (one year ago) link
Listening now.
It’s labelled as an EP on itunes but it’s actually one 10min track. That said it’s not really a 10 min song, it’s actually different songs with the same vocalist - no idea who this is, it’s a reggae guest artist that hadn’t been used on any SAULT song previously afaik.
First track (or section if you will) is a funk-reggae fusion, second one is a piano ballad that has some cool 70’s aor prog choir arrangements towards the end, third segment is a spoken word interlude, fourth one is a soulful chill tune.
I think it could count as an EP, wish it was actually spliced into 4 tracks instead of a single one. Specially because I’m not a fan of spoken word segments and will probably find myself skipping that section.

the guest is chronixx
― ufo, Monday, 10 October 2022 05:15 (one year ago) link
Hoping an actual album comes out and these get spliced then, but knowing SAULT this is probably the full release; an EP of 4 tracks joint without explanation, take it or leave it

― ufo
Oh cool!
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 10 October 2022 05:17 (one year ago) link
It’s a pretty cool trio of songs imho, Inflo nails different 70’s production styles and having a reggae singer on top of them makes a very original contrast. I don’t think I’ve ever heard reggae singers on things that sound like idk Emerson Lake and Palmer.

considering that they teased 10 on twitter & peterson said there's an album coming, i would expect there's probably an album too (just maybe not today?), but you never know with them
― ufo, Monday, 10 October 2022 05:26 (one year ago) link
There's a full album coming but it's all pearl jam covers
― Muad'Doob (Moodles), Monday, 10 October 2022 06:09 (one year ago) link
I'd hoped they would do more with Chronixx after working on his recent single, which was stellar. The first part of this in particular is really doing it for me.
― stirmonster, Monday, 10 October 2022 12:35 (one year ago) link
£7 for a 10 minute 'album' though.
― stirmonster, Monday, 10 October 2022 15:58 (one year ago) link
We're convinced "Angel" is the entirety of 'X'? Where are you seeing it for sale? (Not on BC at this moment...)
― Soundslike, Monday, 10 October 2022 16:13 (one year ago) link
Oh, nevermind. Must've just gone up.
Strange pricing, given they'd done previous full albums at that price (or even "name your own price' I think for some).
― Soundslike, Monday, 10 October 2022 16:15 (one year ago) link
I'm sure "Angel" is the entirety of 'X' too.
Even more on itunes etc.

― stirmonster, Monday, October 10, 2022 11:58 AM (one hour ago)
yeah seriously. I wish they'd at least included the earlier Inflo-produced Chronixx track(+dub) too, esp annoying since his at-one-point forthcoming album seems to have been scrapped
― rob, Monday, 10 October 2022 17:05 (one year ago) link
I will never buy this, that's a ridiculous price
― sleeve, Monday, 10 October 2022 17:14 (one year ago) link
Yeah I’d bet on this being the full release.
Hope this isn’t the m.o. for future releases. If they want to release a bunch of ep’s in this format and a compilation it’d be ideal, the un-spliced tracks drive me crazy on streaming though. Makes these tracks very much useless for playlists. It doesn’t seem they mind too much for streaming either way seeing how they removed 9 apparently permanently.

― stirmonster, Monday, 10 October 2022 23:46 (one year ago) link
on bandcamp it's listed as 10 so that's it i guess
some sort of weird issue with the other platforms not letting a release that's a single track be named something else?

Any other Sault fans like the newish Sudan Archives album Natural Brown Prom Queen? The opener, especially, gives me Sault vibes:

My god, this is real. 5 albums, all distinct. 56 tracks, almost four hours...
A praise-themed gospel-inflected album, a Zamrock-inspired album, a sequel orchestral album to 'Air,' and a couple that seem to be "traditional" eclectic Sault records--I've only just played the first few seconds of every track...
I am in awe. Literally something that would only happen in a weird dream, where your favorite band gives you a bunch of unreleased albums...

Listened to Today & Tomorrow (the Zamrock-ish album) first. It's good; somewhere between Afro-psych and the Jazz Is Dead series run by Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Muhammad.
