drakeo the ruler posthumous album is out today. seems like they did it right, just using recordings from when he was alive and the occasional new verses from his brother ralfy the plug. my favorite stretch

enjoyed billy woods - church! can't quite place it. feels like it thrives on emotional & artistic ambiguity, sort of thing that rewards lots of listens, while keeping itself varied & vivid enough to sustain a sort of narrative. anyway I guess I'd better hear his other 2022 album tomorrow

i think you'll like his aethiopes album, it's arcane and abrasive even by woods standards. it's not my favorite style of his tbh (similar in its abstractness to armand hammer's paraffin), but there's good stuff. gonna check out church this week

anyway, gonna do a dump of things i've been digging lately, but i need to mention "jiggy in jersey 2," which is just so good lol. weirdly, it's the second drill-adjacent song to sample "around the world (la la la la)" that i've heard this year. i feel thoroughly owned to be older than 30, let alone pushing 30!

excited for the bandman tape even tho it seems like he's leaning pretty hard into drill as opposed to pure club music. i guess not that surprising. i still like his version of ny drill better than any of the other stuff that's out there right now (personal bias on my end)

now that he's major signed, the sample-heavy club style is probably less feasible over the course of a whole tape. i do hope there's some mcvertt in the mix.
