The recent peoples_pop poll recently made me vote for Accelerate but not this. Now you're saying people voted for this and not Accelerate? You cannot, cannot have one without the other! (I voted Delirious)

imago, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:50 (one year ago) link

I voted for Delirious too, which is the standout track from this album for me. I wonder if it will also show up.

silverfish, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:52 (one year ago) link

"This is the kind of love that never goes out of style"

My number three.

kitchen person, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:52 (one year ago) link

I mean, this is incredible music ofc lol, but the segue. The segue!

imago, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:53 (one year ago) link

Would have voted Delirious, but in the end it felt too difficult picking between tracks on this album at all because they're all so good. Really feel like she is one of the most uniting forces across all ILM's taste.

tangenttangent, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:53 (one year ago) link

Did not vote for this as I voted for Delirious instead.

MarkoP, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:54 (one year ago) link

"Venice Bitch" was my #1. Luckily everyone was too busy talking about Paramore to make fun of it.

Chris L, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:54 (one year ago) link

Susanne - sensational album, song, voice, melody maker, producer

abcfsk, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:55 (one year ago) link

Venice Bitch is too good to dismiss out of hand, it rewards a full listen-through. Not every LDR song you can say that about ;)

imago, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:57 (one year ago) link

xpost Yeah, I'd agree with that tangenttangent. Susanne and KING are the main two from the last year I can think of who unite almost everyone on here.

kitchen person, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:57 (one year ago) link

Yes, KING as well - absolutely. Little controversy or dissent accompanying their placements in polls!

tangenttangent, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:59 (one year ago) link

Add in Kendrick and that's an ideal 1-2-3 for next week

imago, Friday, 19 August 2022 13:59 (one year ago) link

Can really see that happening

tangenttangent, Friday, 19 August 2022 14:00 (one year ago) link

I wouldn't rule out D'Angelo though. Maybe Destroyer too.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 19 August 2022 14:01 (one year ago) link

I too voted for "Delirious"

Bait Kush (Eric H.), Friday, 19 August 2022 14:02 (one year ago) link

I was so tempted to go with Tin Man which became my favourite Future Islands song, but this was just such a big part of my decade. The reaction it got when we saw them live was really special.

kitchen person, Friday, 19 August 2022 14:03 (one year ago) link

yeah this was the indie rock song of the decade, really the last one to make a real cultural impact (indie with emphasis on the “rock” anyway)

comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Friday, 19 August 2022 14:04 (one year ago) link

I voted for this. Did not expect it to actually place though.

MarkoP, Friday, 19 August 2022 14:05 (one year ago) link

This song has been both ruined and enhanced for me after seeing Samuel perform it in some weird hybrid between cookie monster / death metal vocalist on letterman.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 19 August 2022 14:07 (one year ago) link

oh there was no doubt in my mind

xpost lol

FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Friday, 19 August 2022 14:07 (one year ago) link

throw in Roland Gift impersonation

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 19 August 2022 14:07 (one year ago) link

xp

Dave's "I'll take all of that you got!" after the performance has burned itself into my brain

abcfsk, Friday, 19 August 2022 14:09 (one year ago) link

That picture is perfect lmao

Indexed, Friday, 19 August 2022 14:10 (one year ago) link

I think over time I've come to prefer the BADBADNOTGOOD version of this, but I'm likely in the minority for that.

MarkoP, Friday, 19 August 2022 14:12 (one year ago) link

Band photos where one member refuses to play along

Nabozo, Friday, 19 August 2022 14:13 (one year ago) link

I really like the badbadnotgood version and might prefer it!

YES

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 19 August 2022 14:15 (one year ago) link

Oh wow! I think I voted for a different song by her but can't complain about this placement.

That is quite the jump in popularity.

kitchen person, Friday, 19 August 2022 14:18 (one year ago) link

“king kunta” was my second-highest placing rap song, just an obvious classic from the moment it was released.

people take it too seriously imo, it’s such a fun song. “we want the funk!”

comedy khadafi (voodoo chili), Friday, 19 August 2022 14:21 (one year ago) link

I would perhaps pedantically quibble whether FI are indie, or even whether we should be using the word 'rock' in their reference without the word 'soft' preceding it :p

imago, Friday, 19 August 2022 14:22 (one year ago) link

there's definitely more definite placers than can fit in a top 20 - will be a weird ILM poll if Javiera Mena doesn't show up

― TWELVE Michelob stars?!? (seandalai), Friday, 19 August 2022 00:04 (fourteen hours ago)

think she reliably showed up at position 27 for a couple of years on end, she won’t be going top 20 now - also: strong vote splitting alert!

― big movers, hot steppers + long shaker intros (breastcrawl), Friday, 19 August 2022 00:08 (fourteen hours ago)

me otm as usual

big movers, hot steppers + long shaker intros (breastcrawl), Friday, 19 August 2022 14:22 (one year ago) link

I voted for this because it was one of the few latin american artists / songs I thought had any chance of making it. Wasn’t expecting it so high!

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 19 August 2022 14:23 (one year ago) link

better not be the highest song in Spanish is all I'll say

nashwan, Friday, 19 August 2022 14:23 (one year ago) link

Really pushing for "Despacito", eh?

MarkoP, Friday, 19 August 2022 14:30 (one year ago) link

ok when is Hard in Da Paint showing up

President Keyes, Friday, 19 August 2022 14:30 (one year ago) link

TWELVE Michelob stars?!? (seandalai), Friday, 19 August 2022 14:31 (one year ago) link

The Knife changed a lot in 10 years, and I could never get into this album at all. I guess I'm not surprised to see them in the top 20, but I thought the same thing in the original EOY poll.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Friday, 19 August 2022 14:36 (one year ago) link

javiera mena reaching the top fifteen is pure ilm in a good way

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Friday, 19 August 2022 14:37 (one year ago) link

Yeah I’m very basic when it comes to both The Knife and Fever Ray. Loved Silent Shout and the Fever Ray debut, didn’t really get their follow-ups but respect them for not sticking to one style.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 19 August 2022 14:39 (one year ago) link

xpost to Brad, the only thing more ILM would be if Saint Etienne suddenly appeared.

kitchen person, Friday, 19 August 2022 14:40 (one year ago) link

As long as it isn't Robin Thicke.

MarkoP, Friday, 19 August 2022 14:41 (one year ago) link

St. Etienne ft. Robin Thicke

Malevolent Arugula (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 19 August 2022 14:42 (one year ago) link
