i don’t really think that the fact that they’re not together anymore hurts the song. there are hints throughout the song that they have a very passionate, rocky kind of love that doesn’t make sense to a lot of people on their lives
it encapsulates that blurry line between lustful infatuation and a lasting kind of love, and how one can often be confused for the other

"don't start now" is fine, not best of decade material imo. i do think it's cool that the big hook is in the pre-chorus, not the chorus

I have a meeting in 10 mins and I’ll hopefully be back in an hour or so to resume polling duties.
Here’s a track that I voted highly for and love that it made it.
We all need to take some time.

6 people amped for the wedding dance floor
― Indexed, Wednesday, August 17, 2022 8:24 AM (two hours ago) bookmarkflaglink
I was one of the six, I feel like "fills the wedding dance floor with people of all ages" is one of the central virtues that Truly Great Pop can possess, I will keep voting for this and "Celebration" and "I Gotta Feeling" until the end of time and no one can stop me

Pachanga Boys is a good discovery, although start > end > middle

do i agree with the me of 9.5 years ago
probably on this listen-through i'm more willing to let the midsection of the track do its thing as a means to an end, the vocals are very slowly building to something
― ban, buddy (imago), Wednesday, 17 August 2022 15:33 (one year ago) link
Having this as a favourite tune, and the walk home from the pub being the exact same length has certainly helped up it for me
― nxd, Wednesday, 17 August 2022 15:37 (one year ago) link
yeah this listen through i recant the idea that it sags in the middle, the best thing about it is clearly that build-up to about 10-12 minutes in
― ban, buddy (imago), Wednesday, 17 August 2022 15:38 (one year ago) link
Haven't thought about "Time" in, well, a long time, but it really is a perfect encapsulation of the post-peak-Kompakt sound.

Richard Dawson! The Vile Stuff still gives me goosebumps. Didn't vote for it but glad to see its discordant note landing here amid the sea of hazy pop. xp
Oh but this hazy pop I like.

I'm listening to The Vile Stuff and chuckling at the parallel with Swimming Pools (Drank) which sounds considerably more errr... mystical and disembodied, and definitely won't place (since we're still doing a psychanalysis of ILM before the top 50... joking, we're continuing until the post-mortem).

Oh wow I wasn't sure if this particular SVIIVB song had a dedicated fan base, so I made it my #1 to give it all the help I could. No regrets.

i guess your opinions on this will in part depend on how obnoxious you think a second keychange is
my feeling is: the obnoxiousness is the point

"Love on Top" was the main song I had in mind in terms of "Songs that didn't place in prior polls, but will place in this one".
Not sure what else we have left in regards to that.
