I'm always against instating a max-placements-per-artist rule for the yearly polls but am wondering if it might have made this decade one more interesting. Just feel like a thousand more songs by Taylor/Haim/Destroyer/1975 will ruin me.

Boy, did I just not get LDR in 2011. Still not a "Video Games" fan but I cried uncle in 2017.

"Blank Space" or "Style," which similar to "Cool for the Summer" feel more like the Martin formula grafted onto an artist.

We have a recording of "Blank Space" pre-Martin involvement and it's almost identical

Just feel like a thousand more songs by Taylor/Haim/Destroyer/1975 will ruin me.

In regards to the first three artists, I think we only have like two songs at most from each that could possibly still place.

The 1975, on the other hand, could make up the entire Top 10.

"style" also doesn't really sound like a typical max martin song to me. martin does a lot of things but he usually doesn't do nu-disco

I think of LDR as the Quentin Tarantino of music. Eminently problematic Los Angeles goofball who has somehow tapped into something that by all rights should be pastiche but if it hits for you, it really hits.

not a bad comparison, especially as LDR seems more inspired by film and TV than actual music

this feels like the first genuine TOO LOW of the poll, even though i didn't vote for it or consider voting for it. it is surely ilx-canonical

Insanely joyful song. Hope the album makes up for this lowly placement.

This was my number 2, and yes it does feel too low.

On the other hand, if "Ain't It Fun" out places it, I'll still be happy.

Haha I actually like this one. Nice hooky uptempo song and one of the few recent chart pop songs I can think of about staying with someone over the long term.

The only thing that kind of taints this song for me is the reality that Hailey Williams is no longer in a relationship with the subject of the song.

he wasn't responsible for the disco-iest songs on starboy, and "can't feel my face" and "blinding lights" take more inspiration to post-disco pop, though i guess i'm probably splitting hairs there.

i don’t really think that the fact that they’re not together anymore hurts the song. there are hints throughout the song that they have a very passionate, rocky kind of love that doesn’t make sense to a lot of people on their lives

it encapsulates that blurry line between lustful infatuation and a lasting kind of love, and how one can often be confused for the other

"don't start now" is fine, not best of decade material imo. i do think it's cool that the big hook is in the pre-chorus, not the chorus

I was one of the six, I feel like "fills the wedding dance floor with people of all ages" is one of the central virtues that Truly Great Pop can possess, I will keep voting for this and "Celebration" and "I Gotta Feeling" until the end of time and no one can stop me

do i agree with the me of 9.5 years ago

probably on this listen-through i'm more willing to let the midsection of the track do its thing as a means to an end, the vocals are very slowly building to something

Having this as a favourite tune, and the walk home from the pub being the exact same length has certainly helped up it for me

yeah this listen through i recant the idea that it sags in the middle, the best thing about it is clearly that build-up to about 10-12 minutes in

Haven't thought about "Time" in, well, a long time, but it really is a perfect encapsulation of the post-peak-Kompakt sound.
