I have no idea why I thought it was 60, but easily remedied since they were weighted ballots.

How many ballots made it?
― octobeard, Tuesday, 9 August 2022 07:07 (three years ago)
84!
― ufo, Tuesday, 9 August 2022 07:11 (three years ago)

someone can do that for this year's EOY poll!
― ufo, Tuesday, 9 August 2022 09:18 (three years ago)
Would be more appropriate for 2022, true

Love the idea of DALL-E imaging the 2022 poll

84 seems really good, right? is that on par with other big polls like this?
― gman59, Tuesday, 9 August 2022 20:58 (three years ago)
As far as other non-artist specific polls:
Classic Rock Tracks - 63
Grand Disco Poll - 40
Greatest Rawk Trax of the 1970s - 56
1990s ELECTRONIC ALBUMS - 24
1980's Rock Poll - 87 album ballots and 62 tracks ballots
ELECTRONIC DANCE TRACKS of the 00s - 42
ALL TIME RAP MUSIC POLL OF THE GODS - 35ish
ILM Top 100 2005-2009 - Somewhere between 80-90
― peace, man, Tuesday, 9 August 2022 22:04 (three years ago)
Around how many does an average EOY poll get?
― Disarm u with a SMiLE (morrisp), Tuesday, 9 August 2022 22:08 (three years ago)
the 2021 poll received 77 tracks ballots and 86 albums ballots so this is very much in line with that (78 received of each)
EOY vote numbers have been declining for a while though, used to be a fair bit higher than that

― Bait Kush (Eric H.), Tuesday, 9 August 2022 22:53 (three years ago)
The 00s poll from 2019 had 100 ballots for tracks and 111 for albums.
― MarkoP, Tuesday, 9 August 2022 23:39 (three years ago)
I will do a top 100 for both tracks and albums!
Will start working on images and bbcode, hopefully I can get time to add also a small blurb from zines that gave a positive review on each track / album.
If everything goes fine I might be ready to roll next Monday, if not it will probably be until Aug 23. Will update my status this weekend to confirm when we’re live!
Thanks everyone who nommed and voted!

― Dan S, Wednesday, 10 August 2022 01:31 (three years ago)
didn't quite make my shortlist unfortunately
― ufo, Wednesday, 10 August 2022 01:58 (three years ago)
it's pretty much in line with the 2021 EOY poll, not any sort of real drop-off thankfully (which i was a bit worried about because the board has felt even quieter this year generally)
― ufo, Wednesday, 10 August 2022 02:05 (three years ago)
that's good considering the 2021 number and how many years people are asked to deal with here!i forgive u
― maf you one two (maffew12), Wednesday, 10 August 2022 10:33 (three years ago)
What are the main contenders for the tracks poll then? And wonder if any of the yearly poll #1s won't make it, I think probably "Boys" for a start, as people will have voted for other, better Charli tracks (I went for Take My Hand)
― link.exposing.politically (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Wednesday, 10 August 2022 10:40 (three years ago)
based on recent poll results covering similarly broad ground i am going to guess that hit singles by performers who aren't "album artists" will not do well compared to their showings from the year-specific polls
― dyl, Wednesday, 10 August 2022 13:22 (three years ago)
Does "2 On" fall into that category? Cause I think that could still fare well. "Black Beatles", maybe not as much.
These are the number 1s from the past decade:
2010 Girl Unit - Wut2011 Azealia Banks ft. Lazy Jay - 2122012 Todd Terje - Inspector Norse2013 Daft Punk - Get Lucky2014 Tinashe ft. Schoolboy Q - 2 On2015 Grimes - Realiti (Demo)2016 Rae Sremmurd - Black Beatles2017 Charli XCX - Boys2018 Peggy Gou - It Makes You Forget (Itgehane)2019 Busy Signal - Balloon
I actually don't know if any of these are contenders for the decade top spot though.
― MarkoP, Wednesday, 10 August 2022 13:38 (three years ago)
Some combination of 'what were we thinking' and 'at least we're unique' looking at those lol

Yeah, I don't see Boys getting anywhere near our list. I still love it, but she has better as you say. Two others of hers made my list.
I would be surprised if people still rate Get Lucky that highly. Peggy Gou always seemed like a very surprising winner. No idea about Wut and 212. I can see them missing out. Out of our winners, I'd expect Inspector Norse, Realiti (Demo) and maybe 2 On to do the best.
Split voting is going to be interesting. No idea out of Run Away With Me or Call Me Maybe which is going to be the biggest contender for Carly. All those Ariana Grande, Kendrick Lamar and Taylor Swift etc nominations make it hard to know which songs will come out on top for any of them.
Overall, I think the tracks list will be way more unpredictable than albums. I can't wait!

didn't remember to vote for 2 On or Call Me Maybe! Those are two of the best tracks of the 2010s. Run Away With Me is really good, but not that close.
― Dan S, Wednesday, 10 August 2022 23:42 (three years ago)
I was thinking about albums when I voted, not tracks
Well I certainly did my best to ensure 212 makes the top 100.
"Boys" is such a deeply odd #1 because Charli XCX released something like 77 songs herself in 2017 and I wouldn't even put it in the top 10 of those were we ranking them.
― monotony, Thursday, 11 August 2022 00:12 (three years ago)
I'm hoping Superlove can sneak in. Still my favourite Charli despite all the amazing songs she's put out since then.
― kitchen person, Thursday, 11 August 2022 00:29 (three years ago)
Half of the number ones from the yearly polls are like huh?
― President Keyes, Thursday, 11 August 2022 00:42 (three years ago)
voted for six of the ILM 2010s #1s, one as #1, two others in top 5, an additional two in top 15, and one other lower down on the list
― Dan S, Thursday, 11 August 2022 00:45 (three years ago)
i can promise surprises at the very least
― ufo, Thursday, 11 August 2022 01:07 (three years ago)
ILM doubled down and Balloon is actually #1 decade ?
― Nabozo, Thursday, 11 August 2022 09:17 (three years ago)
Balloon is easily the best and freshest of those winners tbf imo. Didn't vote for it but expecting it to do very well
― ban, buddy (imago), Thursday, 11 August 2022 09:23 (three years ago)
oh fuck i completely forgot about "2 On"!
― Roz, Thursday, 11 August 2022 09:34 (three years ago)
I'm not sure if anyone else does this but in my head there are songs which are "singles" even though they ended up on albums I love, and songs which are "album tracks" even though they ended up being singles, and I will always go for the former over the latter in a tracks poll - hence voting for "Call Me Maybe" over "Run Away With Me" or etc.
― Tim F, Thursday, 11 August 2022 09:47 (three years ago)
I don't know if I naturally make a mental distinction like that, but if I've heard the song prior to the album, and especially if I've seen the video, the song stands out in a way it doesn't if I hear it on the album first. Different context, for sure
I have noticed my favorite songs on albums often tend to be ones picked as singles anyway, and I'm not if that's a function of the extra exposure singles get or the elevated status making me pay more attention or simply catchiness or some other standout quality that me and the artist agree on

Balloon is good but it wears itself out very quickly.
― Dan S, Friday, 12 August 2022 02:31 (three years ago)
Often if I hear an album first I end up loving a particular song, and then am mystified when a different song is picked as a single and everyone likes it.

so, after going through everything, is Courtney Barnett's "Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit" the best album title of the decade?
