JimD (JimD), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 23:36 (twenty years ago)

i'd like to pay $20 at the most.

Christopher Costello (CGC), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 23:51 (twenty years ago)

It probably cost him £15.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Wednesday, 19 April 2006 23:52 (twenty years ago)

Yep, it cost me more than $20, and they're going for about £30 on ebay at the moment.

JimD (JimD), Thursday, 20 April 2006 02:48 (twenty years ago)

I really should buy those Early Works cds that came out.

if you're thinking of 'the complete works' series, don't bother with volume 2 but volume 1 is *essential* ... perhaps my favorite SPZ release after LGM. the 'medication' EP is on there, as are a few versions of "feel so sad" and so much else.

rajeev (rajeev), Thursday, 20 April 2006 03:43 (twenty years ago)

Vol 2 is worth having as well, especially for a fiver.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Thursday, 20 April 2006 06:33 (twenty years ago)

wha!? Volume 2 has the Peel Sessions with "Amazing Grace"/"The Star Bangled Banner" = it is teh awesome

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 20 April 2006 14:31 (twenty years ago)

Yeah the Complete Works cds. Next time I'm in Glasgow I should have a look in FOPP and see if they have them for a fiver.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Thursday, 20 April 2006 14:53 (twenty years ago)

Vol 2 also has "Goin Down Slow" and the amazing single version of "Lay Back in the Sun"

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 20 April 2006 14:58 (twenty years ago)

volume 2 definitely has some great songs, it's got some filler and just feels more like an outtakes disc to me ... too repetitive in spots. and as a result, i never really listen to it. i think volume 1, on the other hand, actually holds up as an album. even though it has multiple versions of certain songs, it never feels like it's retreading ground.

rajeev (rajeev), Thursday, 20 April 2006 15:33 (twenty years ago)

(full disclosure - I don't actually own either volume! I do have almost all the singles/EPs tho)

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 20 April 2006 15:37 (twenty years ago)

(apart from the 3 "Pure Phase" era EPs which were stolen out of my friends car - bastards)

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 20 April 2006 15:38 (twenty years ago)

(those would be the "Let it Flow" CDs - green, red, and blue w/live Glastonbury stuff from '93 like "Clear Rush" and "Things Will Never Be the Same" which, of course, are not included on either Complete Works volume. BAH)

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 20 April 2006 15:42 (twenty years ago)

I have some of the early 7" and 12"s and the cd singles from the LAGWAFIS era. Which was before i stopped buying cd singles(when my local shop that sold cd singles closed down)

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Thursday, 20 April 2006 15:54 (twenty years ago)

quick question: are the radcliffe sessions available anywhere? i taped over mine, like an idiot.

(um, computer says no: http://www.scrawnandlard.co.uk/released_sessions.htm but maybe decent bootlegs exist. maybe this is the grumpy dj mentioned above - i remember the conversations being a bit terse)

sister ray's last release email had the loops cd listed for a tenner btw.

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 20 April 2006 16:17 (twenty years ago)

I think the Radcliffe thing is what I have - I'll check when I get home. (Sample interviewer question: "I hear you don't like talking much.")

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 20 April 2006 16:22 (twenty years ago)

('loops' cd is listed under j spaceman. they also list the above 'friendly fire' ep - http://www.sisterray.co.uk)

yes shakey, that was the style. there were two iirc. 'next track from spiritualized coming up. i'm not going to talk to them because, ha, they hate me. only joking... jason?' (band ignores dj and launches straight into song). radio 1 was only on medium wave at the time, i think, so recordings, the ones i didn't obliterate, are a bit fuzzy.

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 20 April 2006 16:24 (twenty years ago)

I have all that Radcliffe stuff (2 Sessions) and some Peel stuff on a bootleg cd.

Tripmaker (SDWitzm), Thursday, 20 April 2006 16:31 (twenty years ago)

Where did you get that?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Thursday, 20 April 2006 16:33 (twenty years ago)

I got my bootleg from my bass player - dunno where he got it from.

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 20 April 2006 16:37 (twenty years ago)

there's a radio sessions bootleg listed on mp3.com and a couple of other places. comments say it's obviously been taped off air.

koogs (koogs), Thursday, 20 April 2006 16:52 (twenty years ago)

I got my copy of it YEARS ago at a cd shop in Missouri called Now Hear This. Definitely sounds taped off the air. It's pretty good, though.

Tripmaker (SDWitzm), Thursday, 20 April 2006 17:15 (twenty years ago)

Please note: this list is not a stock list but a list of known available titles at this time

sez Sister Ray

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 21 April 2006 06:40 (twenty years ago)

I got my radio sessions boot off of Ebay about 5 years ago.

Radio Sessions Volume One

1992-Radcliffe's Hit The North
1. If I Were With Her Now
2. Step Into The Breeze
3. Angel Sigh
4. Interview
5. Walkin' With Jesus
6. Medication

1993-Radcliffe on Radio One
7. Intro
8. Let It Flow
9. Sway
10. Electric Mainline

1995-Peel
11. Take Your Time
12. Walkin' With Jesus
13. Don't Go

It's pretty good. Don't Go is especially nice. Guitarloops is pretty shocking at first, but I'm warming up to it. It's definately nothing essential or worth paying a ton of money for.

Joseph B. Cowart (flamingrev), Friday, 21 April 2006 07:57 (twenty years ago)

Anyone else got "Friendly Fire" yet? Did you get one Kate?

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Friday, 21 April 2006 09:14 (twenty years ago)

Yep - I've got what Joseph's got. Agreed about "Don't Go".

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 21 April 2006 14:38 (twenty years ago)

i hate to be a whiney little bitch, but can someone ysi guitarloops?
or, maybe, put it on soulseek?

Christopher Costello (CGC), Friday, 21 April 2006 18:40 (twenty years ago)

Why not just search for it on slsk? It's not like it's THAT hard to find there.

LOL Thomas (Chris Barrus), Friday, 21 April 2006 18:42 (twenty years ago)

i've tried a bunch of times. it would be awesome if you can supply a username.

Christopher Costello (CGC), Friday, 21 April 2006 20:54 (twenty years ago)

I've got it on slsk

five months pass...
Is Guitar Loops supposed to sound all distorted at the beginning?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 13 October 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

I think I have worked out that the answer is yes.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Friday, 13 October 2006 15:02 (nineteen years ago)

three months pass...
Did someone mention this (Nov 17) interview yet? J Spaceman has been dead twice!

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 19:44 (nineteen years ago)

Separate thread on it, I think.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 19:50 (nineteen years ago)

WELL WHERE IS IT?

Dr. Alicia D. Titsovich (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 19:56 (nineteen years ago)

You know, around. About.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 19:56 (nineteen years ago)

sorry, ignore, didn't find it :-(

StanM (StanM), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 19:58 (nineteen years ago)

he must of been dead when he recorded that last album

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 20:04 (nineteen years ago)

double secret pneumonia

Dr. Alicia D. Titsovich (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 20:11 (nineteen years ago)

Amazing Grace hasn't aged nearly as well as Let It Come Down, but I recall the former being praised (at least in the press) way more highly than the latter for some inexplicable reason.

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 20:20 (nineteen years ago)

let it come down is a brilliant record

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 21:02 (nineteen years ago)

YES!!! I've just been listening to 'Won't Get To Heaven (The State I'm In)' on repeat to psych myself up for going out. The whole album (aside from 'On Fire' and 'The Twelve Steps' (respectively, meh and SHITE), is utterly awesome, grand, marvellous, moving etc, but WGTH(TSII) is one of my favourite songs of all-time. It's magnificent! 7:01 in is WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT

Scourpop (Haberdager), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 21:06 (nineteen years ago)

otm about on fire, not about the twelve steps

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

works as an intro to the album, i guess

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 21:07 (nineteen years ago)

cutty OTM

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 21:11 (nineteen years ago)

I dunno, I just feel that TTS is nothing more than a tired re-hash of about 4 previous Spz songs (one of which is, indeed, 'On Fire'). It's not even well-executed garage rock, it's boring IMO, and there's no melodic progression. If it wasn't on the album I'd be over the moon, put it that way.

Scourpop (Haberdager), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 21:14 (nineteen years ago)

I dunno I find the lyrics amusing - but yes its like a rehash of Electricity and a bunch of other stuff

Shakey Mo Collier (Shakey Mo Collier), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 21:16 (nineteen years ago)

i love the way he re-uses lyrics on LICD

cutty (mcutt), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 21:21 (nineteen years ago)

There's a more recent Jason interview in the new Mojo... New album due out in 2007. Apparently the creative spark for it came from a particular guitar J. found on tour a couple years back.

Also, the "Acoustic Mainline" bootlegs I've been running across are pretty fantastic.

Elvis Telecom (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 17 January 2007 23:59 (nineteen years ago)

Are those the recent acoustic shows? The one I've heard is great, yeah.
