I always brace myself for the worst every time this thread gets bumped. It doesn't sound like there have been any recent developments, but now I'm wondering how bad it can get?

Maybe a Trumpian turn of announcing his candidacy? A call to his devoted fans to join a new far right party?

Calling mourners after the Manchester bombing "morons" for singing an Oasis tune?

No matter what you think of the polarizing lyrics in “Bonfire of Teenagers,” there’s one thing we can all agree on: Morrissey will always say what’s on his mind, for better or for worse.

I guess what will naturally happen (or perhaps already has) is that I just maintain the same appreciation for '80s and '90s Morrissey while doing my best to ignore latter day Morrissey. It actually brings to mind Dennis Miller, a guy who I surprisingly like a lot when I caught reruns of '80s and early '90s episodes of Saturday Night Live. In both cases though, people argue that the signs were always there, and yet it's still hard to reconcile the work they did then versus what they continuously spout now.

So dumb seeing this presented as a Moz-vs.-Oasis beef.

This guy was ordering his band to write letters to his record company, trying to get them to release "Throwing My Arms Around Paris" in the wake of the Paris terror attacks in 2015 because it might give him a number one. So doesn't seem unlikely that he's motivated by envy and frustration that the mourners weren't singing one of his songs.

I wish a writer of some reputation would publish something that might cross his desk about how bad it sucks, and in some very particular ways, that a guy whose insights into loneliness and otherness continually betrays the import of those insights -- and was doing so all along, mind ("reggae is vile" "hang the DJ" et al), but -- it's on the level of Edith Wharton's antisemitism for me, something that spoils what might have been a balm

Johnny Marr was willing to show Morrissey how to play guitar and to dance with him in the official How Soon Is Now music video. I hope he stayed out of politics. I think he made the Smiths good.

When I saw Marr at Warsaw in Brooklyn (I think 2016?) at one point between songs, he went up to the mic and said something like "all right we have another one for you, but first....POLITICS!" and then jokingly cut himself off.

This reminds me of when he went on radio to say that Brexit was a beautiful thing but the metropolitan elites won't accept it; gotta think Smiths/Moz fans are overwhelmingly remain, for all his "I'm an outsider who speaks his mind" shtick so much of this is pathetically wanting to be accepted by an audience that I don't think has much time for him.

Manchester voted 60.4% to Remain by the way, but I doubt Manchester has any interest in Morrissey anyway.
