The Holy Ghost remix of Curses (or to be proper i guess the Holy Ghost! remix of Curses!, hot exclamation point on exclamation point action) is one of my favorite DFA-related things in ages.

jaxon, Monday, 27 July 2009 18:57 (sixteen years ago)

wish baker would have given them a usb stick w/RAER mp3 on it

jaxon, Monday, 27 July 2009 18:59 (sixteen years ago)

i guess murphy was gonna "play" arthur baker until the holy ghost guys ran into him at a pub and told him about the video and how james murphy was going to be him and he was basically like "nope, ill play myself"

max, Monday, 27 July 2009 19:07 (sixteen years ago)

hahahah what a great homage

butthurt (deej), Monday, 27 July 2009 19:44 (sixteen years ago)

N.M.: We were playing this really bad DJ set in London... well, actually it was okay... but there was this one girl who wasn't very cute or anything, but she was just, like, dancing by herself, and Alex and I said, Man, we should make a video with that―a girl dancing by herself. And then we were like, Oh, like the New Order video! That's what makes it cool―there's this awesome girl just dancing by herself! Alex just put our song to the video and we thought it'd be so easy to remake.

The last thing was that James [Murphy] was going to play Arthur Baker, and... well, we actually kind of know him and we ran into him at a bar and told him about the video. He asked who was going to play him, and we were like, James! "No, man," he said. "I want to play myself." I kind of turned to James and was like, Is that cool? He was like, You can't really say "no" to Arthur Baker... (shrugs).

max, Monday, 27 July 2009 20:53 (sixteen years ago)

Excellent story.

matt2, Monday, 27 July 2009 20:58 (sixteen years ago)

i have such a crush on the whang

lol when I saw juan maclean play in london a few months back, me and my friend spent the entire gig professing our love for nancy whang. after the gig our other friend, a girl, was tiring of this and with nancy and the others hanging around the venue she went up to her and purposely made us sound like utter freaks, eg "my two friends are your biggest fans for years, and have posters of you all over their walls, they have been to every gig you've ever played in england, but they're too scared to say hello, would you say hello to them? they're v shy"

a visibly weirded out nancy whang came over and said hi shortly afterwards, it was the most stilted conversation of my life.

I for one welcome this new Nazi ILX (Local Garda), Monday, 27 July 2009 21:14 (sixteen years ago)

stirmonster, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 18:06 (sixteen years ago)

haha ronan. she obviously didn't know with whom she was dealing else she would've been the shy one ;)

andrew m., Tuesday, 28 July 2009 18:29 (sixteen years ago)

Had I heard that Holy Ghost song on it's own I would have forgotten about it before it even got to the chorus, but now I'm singing it in shower, all because of seeing that video first.

I'm really feeling the new Shit Robot including the remixes. Up there with "Rushing to Paradise" as contenders for the piano jam of the year.

Absolutely loving that Justin Miller DFA mix posted upthread.

If I don't find out the name of the song being played at 56:00 - 58:40 of that Justin Miller DFA mix, then I will be totally depressed forever. HELP!

― Mr. Snrub, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 03:42 (1 month ago) Permalink

Found it! It is called "Simple Things (Work It Out) (Serge Santiago Remix)" by Shit Robot and it will be released on July 14th. Awesome!

even though it reminds me of as much stuff i'm eh about as enthused about

❊❁❄❆❇❃✴❈plaxico❈✴❃❇❆❄❁❊ (I know, right?), Thursday, 13 August 2009 15:06 (sixteen years ago)

imo the classixx remix of the holy ghost track is better than the orig--i think it sort of achieves what (i think) hg were trying to get at

max, Thursday, 13 August 2009 15:31 (sixteen years ago)

The second, yearning "I will come back!" in the chorus certainly works better in the classixx mix. Can't say either version has me bowled over, but that video generates a lot of goodwill.

Daniel_Rf, Thursday, 13 August 2009 15:53 (sixteen years ago)

nah I still think its great, its just that its really muted I guess

❊❁❄❆❇❃✴❈plaxico❈✴❃❇❆❄❁❊ (I know, right?), Thursday, 13 August 2009 16:03 (sixteen years ago)

I have an mp3 of that remix and it just makes me want to hear the orig tbh

❊❁❄❆❇❃✴❈plaxico❈✴❃❇❆❄❁❊ (I know, right?), Thursday, 13 August 2009 16:03 (sixteen years ago)

It pains me to say this but I kind of can't stand the James Curd single. It's just so dorky! Maybe it'll grow on me, I kind of see what it's getting at, but it leaves me totally cold.

More Butty In Your Pants (Telephone thing), Thursday, 13 August 2009 22:13 (sixteen years ago)

haha i love it probably because it's so dorky

badpowderfinger (electricsound), Thursday, 13 August 2009 22:25 (sixteen years ago)

The James Curd single is the one with that awkward "rap," yes?

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 13 August 2009 22:28 (sixteen years ago)

Maybe no quote-marks needed. It is kind of dorky. Can't decide if it's kind of charming, too.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 13 August 2009 22:29 (sixteen years ago)

it's totally awesome is what it is. It also a thing or two to this song...

otm!

I even threw this on a techno/house mix I recently made, just cause it has that (cheesy) charm.

I can't get past the "ground control to major tom, I see you up there, you're getting it on" line. The idea of watching astronauts have sex just doesn't mesh with me.

Well, I wrote some stuff and Kenny Loggins heard it, so, y'know... (EDB), Thursday, 13 August 2009 23:49 (sixteen years ago)

Just downloaded the Canyons 12"- I do like this, very much so.
