11th seems right tbf

nxd, Friday, 22 April 2022 20:26 (four years ago)

Yes, shocked it didn't place in the Top 10.

Bee OK, Friday, 22 April 2022 20:27 (four years ago)

I like "Get Lucky" quite a bit tbh. But I'm glad it landed outside the top 10.

Max Hamburgers (Eric H.), Friday, 22 April 2022 20:33 (four years ago)

Voted for the Alive 2007 mashup of "Alive" w/ "Prime Time of Your Life," "The Brainwasher" and "Rollin' & Scratchin," which was such a monster moment in that set.

Bee OK, Friday, 22 April 2022 20:46 (four years ago)

had a funny feeling this would be at 10, far too low of course, best arpeggios of their career

ignore the blue line (or something), Friday, 22 April 2022 20:48 (four years ago)

yeh voyager is such a perfect moment in 5555

nxd, Friday, 22 April 2022 20:49 (four years ago)

Really gives the album a dose of energy to take it 'round the clubhouse turn.

Max Hamburgers (Eric H.), Friday, 22 April 2022 20:49 (four years ago)

I don't think I voted for "Get Lucky". I don't hate it, I just think it's a bit repetitive, which doesn't make sense as criticism when talking about DP but there you go.

"Voyager" is awesome.

LeRooLeRoo, Friday, 22 April 2022 20:53 (four years ago)

i couldn't find room on my ballot for it but yeah, great song.

Bee OK, Friday, 22 April 2022 21:03 (four years ago)

I had it at #6 ... turns out that, despite my joking, 4 of my top 10 were from Discovery.

The music video for this track shows a rave taking place in an alley. Police officers suddenly arrive to break up the party. While several people are rounded up, a young woman who looks to be captured notices a stain on an officer's shirt. This triggers a flashback beginning with a tomato seed being planted, then sprouting, then harvested and then packaged. The packages are eventually transported to a grocery store where a lady selects the tomatoes to take home with her. As she is preparing tomato sauce, subtitles accurately instruct the viewer on the recipe for making the sauce for spaghetti. The lady places the prepared meal into a tupperware container. The officer from earlier in the video appears with the meal in his squad car. He dribbles the tomato sauce onto his shirt while eating it and creates the stain. This brings the flashback to the beginning of the video. When the officer looks down at his stained shirt and is distracted, the young woman gains the opportunity to flee. Someone appears on a platform above and pulls her to safety.

My favorite Homework track, by a mile. It's got such a muted, menacing undertow to it.

Max Hamburgers (Eric H.), Friday, 22 April 2022 21:13 (four years ago)

my number 1

ignore the blue line (or something), Friday, 22 April 2022 21:13 (four years ago)

Great track. I had it as my #7.

I think I can figure out what the 8 remaining songs are but could never guess the order.

LeRooLeRoo, Friday, 22 April 2022 21:15 (four years ago)

Guessing Disco Cubizm missed out :(

Voyager is a total jam. My #3. I feel like Fred Falke’s entire career is in this track.

As for Get Lucky, the track was an event. The teaser campaign—the SNL ad, the Bonaroo(?) video snippet where it was later revealed Thomas and Guy-Manuel were in the audience watching—was so fucking exciting. After a long layoff, you had Nile Rodgers playing a classic rhythm part, a vocoder bit that was just mind bogglingly funky and a bunch of mystery about what else the song would consist of. Plus, there were like 100 fan versions derived from the 20 seconds or so they were made public.

If the actual released version never quite lived up to the hype of the teasers—tho I do think the single mix is pretty great—it doesn’t change the fact that this was a masterful thing in so many ways. So many Daft Punky ways.

Naive Teen Idol, Friday, 22 April 2022 21:26 (four years ago)

I agree it was an event. And I prefer the single version too.

LeRooLeRoo, Friday, 22 April 2022 21:32 (four years ago)

The blonde girl in the video is Catherine Kellner born October 1970. The video was shot in 1998 and was directed by Roman Coppola, Daft Punk and a few others. The DJ is none other than legendary DJ Paul Johnson from Chicago, of Chicago House music fame. Both Bangalter and De Homem-Christo of Daft Punk make cameos in this video, along with legendary Roger Sanchez. This video is of legends back when the rave scene was fun, cool and full of responsible party goers.

Great great song, should've been an earlier single from Discovery and a huge pop hit.

LeRooLeRoo, Friday, 22 April 2022 21:42 (four years ago)

right, album came out in 2001 and this single didn't come out until October 2003.

Bee OK, Friday, 22 April 2022 21:43 (four years ago)

to me this is their real pop classic

ignore the blue line (or something), Friday, 22 April 2022 21:45 (four years ago)

Human After All was my #2. Whatever you think of HAA—and I have always liked more of it than most seem to—the title track still feels to me like one of their most focused, with an absolutely incredible build. Were I to have seen them live, I’m not sure there’s another track I’d have rather heard.

All of which is to say that #19 is

WAY.

TOO.

LOW.

Absolutely adore Face to Face. At its time of release, it was one of the only Todd Edward’s songs to have a beat this radically different.

Naive Teen Idol, Friday, 22 April 2022 21:47 (four years ago)

Also, the synth playing the Layla at the end of every section of the chorus in Instant Crush gives me a chuckle every time I hear it.

Naive Teen Idol, Friday, 22 April 2022 21:57 (four years ago)

The Layla *riff* that is.

All the songs left are #1 contenders imo.

LeRooLeRoo, Friday, 22 April 2022 22:33 (four years ago)

Including "Santa Claus"!

Max Hamburgers (Eric H.), Friday, 22 April 2022 22:35 (four years ago)

Haha sure!

LeRooLeRoo, Friday, 22 April 2022 22:38 (four years ago)

"santa claus" was in my top 5 at least

ufo, Friday, 22 April 2022 22:40 (four years ago)

also surprised no further alive 2007 tracks placed, "superheroes / human after all / rock'n roll", "robot rock / oh yeah" and "television rules the nation / crescendolls" are all vastly superior to their constituent parts

ufo, Friday, 22 April 2022 22:41 (four years ago)

I have had some friends show up and we are going to go out, so ILM will have a rare Saturday finish of a poll. I will sleep in a bit so poll will resume approximately one hour later then these last few days.

Bee OK, Friday, 22 April 2022 22:52 (four years ago)

Wait ... did "Music Sounds Better" not place?!
