other "cool" things frusc likely smuggled into the record but idk flea's taste is equally if not more cool so ymmv: the breakdowns in "these are the ways" are kinda post-hardcore

klinghoffer played like a radio dial stuck between two very different classic rock stations
thought about this more and it's more like a radio dial stuck between a classic rock and a new wave station. i like klinghoffer a lot, that he's hard to pin down is good

It’s interesting how, this time around, critics are like “if I gotta review this thing, what if I just focus on the guitarist?”
― Legalize Suburban Benches (Raymond Cummings), Sunday, 3 April 2022 20:41 (two years ago) link
(Maybe that’s happened in the past though I and I’m not remembering.)
Well, tbf, the guitarist position has been a revolving door for 30 years.

there's a tribute band that's come around here a few times called "Red Hot Chili Pipers"...feel like that should be off-limits as a band name right? I do a double take every time I see it on the marquee

Agreed, it’s too close. They’re supposed to use a name like “Funky Monks” or something.

Some excellent instrumentals on the new record but Kiedis is even more of a dork than usual
― thewufs, Tuesday, 5 April 2022 15:05 (two years ago) link
At this point they should just become the John Frusciante Experience and let Kiedis retire to his yoga room. Or turn him over to the LAPD’s sex crimes unit.
― thewufs, Tuesday, 5 April 2022 15:06 (two years ago) link
wufs on the mark. This album sucks and I'm tired of hearing about this group of creepy, habitual underachievers. Bring back Atoms for Peace and let Fruscinate sit in.

I mean I’m actually a fan of their work through By the Way - usually I can just tune out Kiedis’s inanities. And as bad a singer and person Kiedis is, he does have the capacity to turn out a good lyric on the rare occasion when he’s honest about himself (“Warped”).

i saw the first appearance of JF after he left the chi peps and got super burned up in a speedball fire. it was one of the most unnerving performances i've ever seen. i'm glad he's still alive.
― kurt schwitterz, Friday, 8 April 2022 17:31 (two years ago) link
Shocked by how much I don't actually hate this. The lyrics are almost uniformly terrible and Kiedis remains the weak link and a huge sleazy dork, but instrumentally there is a lot to like.
New album is pretty bad. Too new to properly assess, but I haven't disliked anything of theirs this much since One Hot Minute.
Fwiw, One Hot Minute is one of my favorite RHCP albums, so makes sense.

I have so much respect for your stance Brad and think you should be praised more for it. liking RHCP isn't quite as outré as repping for Theory of a Deadman but it's close

i think i was hating on rhcp on here a few years ago because i was living with my sister at the time and she likes them lol. anyway i like a few songs tbh. but one thing i don't really get is anthony kiedis hate? like he's just inoffensively druggy-white-guy funky to me, not even close to the worst example of that in socal bands that made it big afaic.

I just hate his voice. and mostly on newer RHCP, his staccato vox from early RHCP (which I'm still kinda into) were fine.
― waiting for a czar to fall (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 8 February 2023 02:08 (one year ago) link
I make fun of them constantly, though it truly is just the vocals and lyrics that I can't stand.

Everything they've done since Blood Sugar has been garbage, Kiedis is just the easiest piece to make fun of in their slow jam/ballad era.

inexplicable that these goofs are still huge while nobody under 30 has any idea who R.E.M. are.
I was at the Peach Bowl in Atlanta last month, with the Georgia Bulldogs from Athens one of the two teams. they played like three RHCP songs in the stadium that night and nothing by R.E.M. or the B-52's. a travesty.

"It's the End of the World as We Know It," obviously. Maybe "What's the Frequency." I dunno, just saying it felt all kindsa messed up.
It was UGA vs. Ohio State, should've played nothing but Elephant 6 and Ron House.
