Autechre: Classic or Dud?

I was in my morning meeting when the tickets went on sale, if I hadn't been looking at twitter at the same time I'd have had no idea, thanks warp and autechre mailing lists! I got in the queue and as soon as I got to the front my name was called in the meeting. 'Er, just buying tickets for my favourite band!' - 'Is it autechre?' - 'Yes' - 'Oh I was going to get some!' - 'Me too!'. We all got some but too late for stalls or mid circle.

Oh to work in an office where people even now who autechre is, let alone being fans. You lead a charmed life, ledge!

I was a bit surprised but we're all developers and some make their own music so kind of the target demographic!

They're all a lot younger than me so it's good to know that it's not just an old man's game. And I get to boast that I've seen ae live seven times already.

I ordered the Chiastic/LP5 reissues at my local shop and wound up realizing that I've actually never said their name out loud before

Ha, that's actually fascinating to consider. I imagine the vast majority of Autechre discourse is online, lol, but assuming a bunch of Autechre fans ever got together to talk Autechre in real life, how would they even go about doing it when half the tracks are unpronounceable?

I wonder if people at Autechre shows ever shout requests.

From 1997 to 2010 if I found anyone who genuinely liked Autechre I was shocked and made a new friend immediately. Now it seems they're everywhere. Last time I went to a show (2015?) it was sold out and was shocked at the reasonable m/f ratio. Love that they've found a new generation of fans and seemingly are making their best music now. One of the few aspects of this timeline that give me hope

I skipped around a lot (top comment has the timestamps of specific questions) but he seems like a great dude. very socially progressive, willing to talk about anything, also answers a ton of gear questions

reissues of Confield & Draft are apparently done, but he's unsure if they'll go further. says it's up to Warp to see if there's any demand. I'd be bummed if that was it - Untilted/Quaristice/Oversteps/Exai/elseq are all amazing and I'd buy them in a heartbeat

I can't remember when they started being so forthcoming and interactive. Maybe they always were and I never really noticed? Anyway, I love the transparency, I love how they make such unique, mysterious music, but then seem to be such good guys totally willing to answer questions for hours.

I guess it also requires some degree of confidence in what they are up to. You could give someone the same rig, the same gear, but it just wouldn't be the same music. It would be like giving a drummer John Bonham's set. Good luck, you know?
