I was in my morning meeting when the tickets went on sale, if I hadn't been looking at twitter at the same time I'd have had no idea, thanks warp and autechre mailing lists! I got in the queue and as soon as I got to the front my name was called in the meeting. 'Er, just buying tickets for my favourite band!' - 'Is it autechre?' - 'Yes' - 'Oh I was going to get some!' - 'Me too!'. We all got some but too late for stalls or mid circle.

Oh to work in an office where people even now who autechre is, let alone being fans. You lead a charmed life, ledge!
― Paul Ponzi, Friday, 11 March 2022 13:25 (four years ago)
I was a bit surprised but we're all developers and some make their own music so kind of the target demographic!
― ledge, Friday, 11 March 2022 13:56 (four years ago)
They're all a lot younger than me so it's good to know that it's not just an old man's game. And I get to boast that I've seen ae live seven times already.
― ledge, Friday, 11 March 2022 14:00 (four years ago)
Let us know when they're hiring!
― Paul Ponzi, Friday, 11 March 2022 14:13 (four years ago)
I ordered the Chiastic/LP5 reissues at my local shop and wound up realizing that I've actually never said their name out loud before
― frogbs, Friday, 11 March 2022 14:36 (four years ago)
Ha, that's actually fascinating to consider. I imagine the vast majority of Autechre discourse is online, lol, but assuming a bunch of Autechre fans ever got together to talk Autechre in real life, how would they even go about doing it when half the tracks are unpronounceable?
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 11 March 2022 14:43 (four years ago)
There's some discussion of pronunciation, inevitably, on Gonkcast.
― eatandoph (Neue Jesse Schule), Friday, 11 March 2022 16:51 (four years ago)
I wonder if people at Autechre shows ever shout requests.
― Josh in Chicago, Friday, 11 March 2022 17:05 (four years ago)
"GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONK"
― Whiney G. Weingarten, Friday, 11 March 2022 17:45 (four years ago)
They just spell out the titles in Unicode glyph numbers and everyone’s down with it

From 1997 to 2010 if I found anyone who genuinely liked Autechre I was shocked and made a new friend immediately. Now it seems they're everywhere. Last time I went to a show (2015?) it was sold out and was shocked at the reasonable m/f ratio. Love that they've found a new generation of fans and seemingly are making their best music now. One of the few aspects of this timeline that give me hope
― octobeard, Monday, 28 March 2022 09:01 (four years ago)
lotta Bobby Hill energy coming off this kid
― frogbs, Monday, 28 March 2022 13:27 (four years ago)
I recall seeing a Bobby Hill meme where he's listening to music on his headphones (video dubs in Fleur from Exai or something) and Hank listens for a few seconds and leaves muttering "that boy ain't right"
That kid fucking rules.

― StanM, Monday, 6 June 2022 10:24 (four years ago)
having listened to the primavera set i have a question i would have asked on the ama (lol as if): why don't their live sets slap any more?
― buffalo tomozzarella (ledge), Monday, 6 June 2022 12:23 (four years ago)
Maybe you need to imbibe more horlicks.
Sounds like there's more going on in this set because Mac M1s.
― Noel Emits, Monday, 6 June 2022 14:07 (four years ago)
recent bedtime procedure has been to put a playlist of favourite and infrequently-listened-to autechre on shuffle and set the sleep timer to 60 minutes see how far i get
anyway, tonight i noticed that next year is 30 years since the first lp. 30 years.

Here it is. 6 1/2 hours this time lmao
I skipped around a lot (top comment has the timestamps of specific questions) but he seems like a great dude. very socially progressive, willing to talk about anything, also answers a ton of gear questions
reissues of Confield & Draft are apparently done, but he's unsure if they'll go further. says it's up to Warp to see if there's any demand. I'd be bummed if that was it - Untilted/Quaristice/Oversteps/Exai/elseq are all amazing and I'd buy them in a heartbeat

― The Triumphant Return of Bernard & Stubbs (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 4 August 2022 21:12 (three years ago)
I think ILM alone would gladly be enough demand
I can't remember when they started being so forthcoming and interactive. Maybe they always were and I never really noticed? Anyway, I love the transparency, I love how they make such unique, mysterious music, but then seem to be such good guys totally willing to answer questions for hours.
― Josh in Chicago, Thursday, 4 August 2022 21:21 (three years ago)
I guess it also requires some degree of confidence in what they are up to. You could give someone the same rig, the same gear, but it just wouldn't be the same music. It would be like giving a drummer John Bonham's set. Good luck, you know?
