What do we think of "Heavy Bend"? Kind of a filler track if any such thing exists on this album, but there's something cool about it.

Yes, to me it’s a nice “palate cleanser” – falling, as it does, between two atmospheric epics – and I like the insistent lyrical repetition and “just a sketch” feel of the song.

I feel like when you hit “Red Moon” is when your brain goes – “oh shit, this is just a remarkable album” (…and it’s the start of side 3, which shows how well-paced the track list is)

The little woodwind & gtr jam at the end of "No Reason" is such hot sh1t... I just love it

Reupping this just to say that this final minute of the song is so redunculously, shamelessly beautiful, it makes me laugh in disbelief as I hear it. Like, just imagining putting that on tape, and listening back to it for the first time…

Heavy Bend is great. Love that little rnb-ish riff. I was trying to put my finger on what it most reminded me of and realised that it sounds close to DJ Pied Piper - Do You Really Like It? and more recently PinkPantheress - Just For Me.

Took me more than a few listens to dig that out as well.

When I first got to know the song, from the live version on YouTube, I thought she was literally giving a shout-out to her grandma in the intimate crowd.

the other day i took a walk in the woods outside of my house. the day had begun to dim, clouds swarming in the sky like magnetized bumper cars, and it cast the trees in this grey-blue glow that made them appear more ancient than they already were, like they had been there since the very start of the world. as i headed back i stared at a blossom on the tree closest to my house, and to my surprise and almost horror, the blossom began to shiver open, like a bird shaking water from its feathers. i strained my eyes to focus on whatever was being born inside of it, getting exposed to the air for the first time, and when my vision finally stabilized, i saw the tiniest little thumbnail of the album art of big thief's dragon new warm mountain i believe in you. i ran back into the house and cried for hours; i had never witnessed anything so beautiful, and all previous and future instances of beauty appeared so shriveled and hollowed-out in its wake that i never went outside again

Finally settling into a listen. Very nice Saturday morning music.

Anyway I’m more suggesting that fleetwood Mac became like a hipster cause again circa 08 or whatever — when I was in hs/college I feel they were kinda uncool still, hangover of bill Clinton using don’t stop thinking about tomorrow on his campaign speeches maybe? Baby boomer rock that was cool was way more stones zep Hendrix centric. Things tilted back toward Mac in the mid-late 00s & it just accelerated since, I agree there are better historical analogues for big thief (the band keeps coming up over and over) but my point is it’s not like their sound his hitting at the apex of some 70s country-rock revival trend that they happen to be capitalizing on, were already through even the latest stage grateful dead phase—the obvious touchpoints for this band have been cool for like 15 years. If anything they’re “late” — but, and yet, through being Good it kind of doesn’t matter what their relationship to trends are

it's not just an aesthetic similarity (although it DEFINITELY is that), it's that Krivchenia frequently even plays like and sounds like Mick Fleetwood,
favoring the hi-hat heavily over the cymbals, often throwing in variations to the basic beats, rarely repeating anything exactly but still establishing a familiar rhythm

flower of blood sounds so goooood on my speakers. :) usually i prefer to listen to everything on headphones but this one does sound glorious on a sunday morning.

i think people are going to start to really annoyed when the inevitable Which Side is Best poll comes up, but there are legit arguments for all 4 here
