I don’t really get the device outside of kind of a novelty thing. Not sure I want to fade in/fade out different tracks on a song while I’m listening to it and also does this not require the artist to supply said elements separately or is it sophisticated enough to filter these things out itself?

Also aesthetically it’s like two degrees removed from a Cronenberg interface, which slightly works in its favor imo.

there are products that do stem extraction and I'd generally trust them more than Kanye

esp if the Kanye thing is $200 at that price point you could probably get an actual tool that's going to be supported with updates and integrates with other recording software not the passing fancy of a loony

yeah I found some cheap stem extractors online recently that were a lot cheaper than that. idk if they worked but I don't think that matters in commerce anymore

its so weird to me that its a portable device. like what are the use cases for a portable stem extractor that (unless i misread the faq again) only holds a max of 10 minutes of audio? "pass the aux, i'm going to play 2-3 kanye songs and fade the different parts in & out!"

I suspect Kanye wasn’t aware of the Chainsmokers song either and he was just googling songs with “new york” in the chorus, because he wanted to make “empire state of mind 2” but he needed a “sampled” song as some sort of scapegoat.

Watched the first episode of the netflix doc.

It’s insane the amount of footage they had for a yet to be famous person. It’s interesting to see the behind curtains of the business in the 90’s.

Funny that not even on those early days Kanye seems very likable. Funniest part is Kanye playing “all falls down” and rapping it in front of different “Roc a fella” employees who just want to keep doing their jobs.

Wayno debunked that scene on Twitter, apparently Kanye had been playing the song like 10 times in a row and everyone thought it was good but also like dude we can't sit here and listen to this all day, but they edited to make everyone else look bad
