Coil's one of my all time favorite bands but it's weird, now that I have multiple copies of LSD and both volumes of MTPITD, in addition to all the must-have releases I already owned (Horse Rotorvator, Ape of Naples, Black Antlers, And The Ambulance, etc) I kinda think I'm finally done collecting Coil stuff? I mean, given that both Geff and Sleazy are dead and all. Unless there is some crazy revelatory archival thing left to be discovered (doubtful), I think I'm finally OK with what I have.

Pretty much we're at an end point, yeah. It's just repressings or remixes or whatever from here on in, unless more live shows (semi-)formally emerge.

I got me the reissue of MTPITD2 the other week. I'd heard it a few times before and thought it was one of their weaker albums but it's a lot better than I remember. Batwings is one of their finest achievements. Possibly top three Coil tracks material

Just listened to a bit of MTPITD2, my first Coil for quite a few years. Then I went back to Broccoli and was reminded of what I always used to think: do people really take acid/mushrooms and listen to Coil? Some of that stuff seems designed to cause a bad trip (I'm fully prepared to be 'missing the point' on this but thought I'd ask).

i feel MTPITD2 has matured with age and I like it way more now than i did when it came out.

i used to trip to Coil quite a lot, but stopped tripping a little while after "Love's Secret Domain" came out. The one that was way too much to listen to tripping was their Sickness Of Snakes side project but I really did love tripping while listening to those other early albums.

Which color variation did you get? I ended up getting the "transparent crystal blue" or whatever they were calling it, and was pleasantly surprised by how good it sounded, given the dreaded colored vinyl

I used to think I preferred volume 1 but these days I'm leaning toward this second volume being the better of the two, though that could be because I was previously a lot more familiar with Volume 1 for many years ("Batwings" aside)

I always get black if it's an option

Ah yes, that's what I was thinking of. Not sure how much the lore surrounding that event is accurate, or if that callout was actually meant for Sleazy or was just John doing a bit, but I just did some reading and I guess they, uh, decoupled a few days later.

I've done it a bit. It can be overwhelming if you're not in a positive state of mind to begin with, but listening to LSD on its namesake substance is like entering a portal to another realm.

MTPITD2 might be my favorite Coil these days; I could live inside "Tiny Golden Books," dosed or not.

On psychedelics the morbid aspects of the music tend to become more amusing than disturbing, for me at least
