six months pass...

There is a new book of Alasdair’s lyrics out - ordering info on the Clientele insta if that happens to be anyone’s bag

lemmy incaution (emsworth), Tuesday, 10 May 2022 03:57 (four years ago)

had a look at it, tempted

corrs unplugged, Tuesday, 10 May 2022 06:19 (four years ago)

So, are they?

Mark G, Tuesday, 10 May 2022 06:21 (four years ago)

Best band since the Smiths? Surely

corrs unplugged, Tuesday, 10 May 2022 06:24 (four years ago)

Jaime Pressly and America (f. hazel), Tuesday, 10 May 2022 13:52 (four years ago)

The book arrived. It's handsome and contains quite a lot more than lyrics I already know.

Tim, Monday, 16 May 2022 13:41 (four years ago)

awesome... very excited to see it!

Jaime Pressly and America (f. hazel), Monday, 16 May 2022 13:49 (four years ago)

I ordered one as well. Still waiting on the lavish career retrospective box set.

that's not my post, Monday, 16 May 2022 14:45 (four years ago)

I'd prefer just a new album, which seems to be in the works

Jaime Pressly and America (f. hazel), Monday, 16 May 2022 15:19 (four years ago)

well, a new album would be very welcome surprise

that's not my post, Monday, 16 May 2022 15:42 (four years ago)

Alasdair posted a picture of him with his black telecaster and something abt learning to play again

They played! They were good. And Alasdair said there’s a new LP on the way.

Tim, Friday, 30 September 2022 21:55 (three years ago)

I had never heard of these guys before this thread. On first listen, the singer sounds like David J.

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Friday, 30 September 2022 22:09 (three years ago)

wait, they said there's a new LP on the way?? insert happy face gif

that's not my post, Friday, 30 September 2022 22:27 (three years ago)

They did - said (from the stage) that they’d signed a contract with Merge for a new one.

Tim, Friday, 30 September 2022 23:26 (three years ago)

jimbeaux listen to Strange Geometry

Evan, Saturday, 1 October 2022 15:24 (three years ago)

fantastic news!

corrs unplugged, Saturday, 1 October 2022 16:21 (three years ago)

whoop! whoop!

groovypanda, Sunday, 2 October 2022 18:56 (three years ago)

They really were on sparkling form friday, although a couple of the songs from the last lp had a slightly busked quality. The mix was crystalline. So glad they are a going concern and wished i'd bought one of the lyric books. Glad i didn't but one of the tiny suburban daylight t shirts.

cw, Sunday, 2 October 2022 18:59 (three years ago)

v. excited about a new album!

new tune out!

OMG new double album in July!

the absence of bikes (f. hazel), Monday, 24 April 2023 15:06 (three years ago)

Just the 19 songs on the new album then!

Shard-borne Beatles with their drowsy hums (Chinaski), Monday, 24 April 2023 15:07 (three years ago)

it's clearly going to be their Tusk

the absence of bikes (f. hazel), Monday, 24 April 2023 15:16 (three years ago)

It's nice, though I have a very minor pet peeve regarding excessive vocal melodies applied to simple words like "blue" ("blue over bluuu-u-u-uuu-u-u-uuue")

But his face would not turn into hot Kirby (Evan), Monday, 24 April 2023 15:22 (three years ago)

we can have good things at least some of the time

that's not my post, Monday, 24 April 2023 16:03 (three years ago)

If that's a way of saying "can't you just let us enjoy this" please let me reiterate how minor and inconsequential my criticism of that detail is meant to be. I'm very excited the album is finally announced!

But his face would not turn into hot Kirby (Evan), Monday, 24 April 2023 16:46 (three years ago)

wait until you hear the cover of Doin' the Do that closes the album

the absence of bikes (f. hazel), Monday, 24 April 2023 17:01 (three years ago)

xpost i'm just excited for the album. my comment was more global. it's a good news monday on a lot of fronts.

that's not my post, Monday, 24 April 2023 17:54 (three years ago)

How do you capture lyrics? A pen? A smart phone app?
It always used to be a pen and a piece of paper. I’ve now changed to notes on iphone. Tragically, I also use a Trello board to swap things around and see if they look different in a different order. Quite often ideas come from quotes or images from books I read, so I take photos of the page too.

corrs unplugged, Tuesday, 25 April 2023 06:45 (three years ago)

They’re coming back to The Chapel in SF this summer. More good things.

that's not my post, Tuesday, 25 April 2023 14:47 (three years ago)

yeah looking forward to that. I'm really happy this band has soldiered on and continues to find some way to tour outside the UK without ever becoming huge.

I? not I! He! He! HIM! (akm), Tuesday, 25 April 2023 14:52 (three years ago)

I'm gonna try and hit up the Philly and DC shows!

the absence of bikes (f. hazel), Tuesday, 25 April 2023 15:07 (three years ago)

Supreme Clientele would be a cool mashup record

Blues Guitar Solo Heatmap (Free Download) (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 25 April 2023 15:54 (three years ago)

weirdly, there is kind of a hip hop breakdown on this new record ... and it's good!

tylerw, Tuesday, 25 April 2023 22:50 (three years ago)

not totally feeling new song tbh - a little bit the drums, a little bit the recurring guitar “sample” at the top - cool that they are playing with the sound, just didn’t quite gel for me in this instance

meat and two vdgg (emsworth), Tuesday, 25 April 2023 23:03 (three years ago)

live from 2000 "And the Grass Won't Pay No Mind" (Neil Diamond)

they certainly make this sound like a clientele tune

corrs unplugged, Tuesday, 30 May 2023 08:34 (three years ago)

new one!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrG7DghQby8

has a genuinely weird Beatles "White Album" kinda thing going on

sean gramophone, Thursday, 1 June 2023 13:58 (three years ago)

seems like it'll be an interesting trip!

the absence of bikes (f. hazel), Thursday, 1 June 2023 14:43 (three years ago)

yeah, doesn't sound like more of the same... which is cool!

corrs unplugged, Friday, 2 June 2023 11:48 (three years ago)

Music for the Age of Miracles was both a surprise and a classic, so I'm quite happy for them to follow it up with a sprawling experimental double album... just bought tickets for the Philly and DC shows!

the absence of bikes (f. hazel), Friday, 2 June 2023 15:32 (three years ago)

three weeks pass...

another new track!

Revisiting that first new track again and yeah I think it just comes across as a bit too stiff overall. Both the instrumentation and forcing "blue over blue" into that vocal melody contribute to that feeling for me. HOWEVER I don't necessarily dislike it, I guess I'm just trying to analyze why it was feeling a little off.

The Clientele is best when they sound effortless and it did not feel that way. This is also why I was a little turned off by the overstuffed production on the last album.

But his face would not turn into hot Kirby (Evan), Wednesday, 28 June 2023 20:45 (two years ago)

I'm definitely warming to Dying in may, though still getting a distinct Noel's-posh-cousin-does-a-trip vibration from it that i'm not sure what do with.

Blue over blue is nice enough but has a couple of tics that bother me (the farting fuzz, the baroque breakdown), its unusual for the first taste of a new clientele lp to be anything but flat out perfection, but i'm sure it will be fine in context. Now very excited to hear the record and on board for any eeriness / polite tinkering / scorched earth sonic terrorism in might entail.

out friday! :D

there's... a podcast?

corrs unplugged, Monday, 24 July 2023 10:25 (two years ago)

We got a promo of the new album in at work which I've played a couple of times. I'm really not feeling it sadly. There's some songs that just don't work (including the first two singles). The nicer more typical Clientele songs just feel like retreads of what they've done before.

I'll stick with it because I love these guys, but my first impression is that this is easily their weakest album and I doubt I'll pick it up.
