Oh it's still far from over, of course. But the world looks very different from how it did 18 months ago. Here in Scotland you can actually go clubbing, there are parts of the world where it feels like we've made substantial progress.

You can actually go clubbing in the US, too. 2,000 people a day are still dying here though, and the UK has 11% of the planet's daily new cases.

Sorry, I hadn't checked the figures in the last 27 hours: here's an update from 21 minutes ago:

That's the second-highest figure of the pandemic to date in the UK, and cases have been rising consistently there since August

(since June, really, but there was a two-week dip in summer)

Yes, it’s a bummer that cases are rising in the UK, but the situation does not seem to be “worse than it ever was” in terms of deaths or hospitalizations… hope those metrics don’t significantly worsen as cases rise; I know the vaccination campaign has been quite successful there.

Whoa, really? Every bar and restaurant I've been over the past few months in SF & Oakland has completely enforced the card + ID check. ... Granted, that's a total of 5 different places, and I am not saying you are wrong.

The recent shift from summer to fall has led to some awkwardness as many places that had outdoor dining and drinking are shutting down that aspect even though they still have the parklets in place.

Whereas here in Florida those spaces are expanding again.
