Scott Weiland was having a lot of trouble when I saw him play a few months before his death, he was missing notes that weren't even especially high in his range.

Halfway there but for you, Sunday, 25 July 2021 19:10 (four years ago)

I would definitely rather listen to Sarah Brand than Ian Brown, the worst live singer I've ever seen by some considerable distance.

(because graceful self-delusion, if that's what it is, will forever trump graceless misplaced arrogance)

mike t-diva, Sunday, 25 July 2021 20:04 (four years ago)

people are taking this seriously huh

Yours in Sorrow, A Schoolboy: (forksclovetofu), Monday, 26 July 2021 01:52 (four years ago)

just wait for the EOYs

imago, Monday, 26 July 2021 09:45 (four years ago)

she could also work on her enunciation ... I didn't really understand what she was saying half the time ... maybe it's just me being old

sarahell, Monday, 26 July 2021 16:40 (four years ago)

no that was my first reaction even before the pitch. I'm like "is this mumblecountry"?

making splashes at Dan Flashes (Neanderthal), Monday, 26 July 2021 16:52 (four years ago)

Yeah, I couldn't make any of it out before I read the lyrics.

Sequel to Sadness (Sund4r), Monday, 26 July 2021 16:53 (four years ago)

you actually read the lyrics?!

sarahell, Monday, 26 July 2021 16:56 (four years ago)

They're right there in the video description.

Sequel to Sadness (Sund4r), Monday, 26 July 2021 17:09 (four years ago)

I've clearly been thinking too much about it. Reading the lyrics was basic level.

Sequel to Sadness (Sund4r), Monday, 26 July 2021 17:13 (four years ago)

Feels like a lot of people itt investing way too much thought into this terrible song and terrible singer. Y'all really want a new Farrah Abraham that badly, huh?

a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Monday, 26 July 2021 17:18 (four years ago)

I will give her this much: as awful as the song + singer are, the cumulative 45 seconds or so that I've heard of this (once for myself, once for my gf who probably noped out quicker than I did) have lodged themselves very firmly in my head.

Marty J. Bilge (Old Lunch), Monday, 26 July 2021 17:22 (four years ago)

"Fantasy" is good!

Sequel to Sadness (Sund4r), Monday, 26 July 2021 17:33 (four years ago)

Red Dress with an actual singer is a good song

making splashes at Dan Flashes (Neanderthal), Monday, 26 July 2021 17:42 (four years ago)

Loathed the Farrah Abraham, but I wouldn’t mind a new Laurel Halo - the unadorned pitchiness of Quarantine was a thing of great beauty.

mike t-diva, Monday, 26 July 2021 17:44 (four years ago)

Gordon Haskell was kinda pitchy on this one, to the surprise of no one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNhfdZe5njk

making splashes at Dan Flashes (Neanderthal), Monday, 26 July 2021 18:10 (four years ago)

the lyrics of this are very very bad btw

i do like "fluffennamp timebaschwain fennehsquaf" thought that was a good line

xpost Why do u judge in disgust

brilliant video moment with the cutaway on "letting someone else steer" to a red cow

tl;dr

sarahell, Monday, 26 July 2021 20:21 (four years ago)

I like the ii to II modulation in the chorus, that's what sticks in my head.

Halfway there but for you, Monday, 26 July 2021 20:24 (four years ago)

This is kind of like the time Wes Bentley tearfully engaged with the beauty of a plastic shopping bag caught in an updraft

Karl Havoc (DJP), Wednesday, 28 July 2021 11:35 (four years ago)

I only sent that once

Microtonal vision is a thing.

pomenitul, Wednesday, 28 July 2021 11:56 (four years ago)

lol xp

StanM, Wednesday, 28 July 2021 12:16 (four years ago)

Lyrics on this are also really, impressively bad. I vote calculated effort to go viral. And good on her.

maf you one two (maffew12), Wednesday, 28 July 2021 12:23 (four years ago)

The only thing about this that even hints at calculation is that I'd think an Oxford grad student would generally have a better notion of how words go together.

Marty J. Bilge (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 28 July 2021 12:46 (four years ago)

her thesis is on five dimensional chess

maf you one two (maffew12), Wednesday, 28 July 2021 12:58 (four years ago)

Which could it be:

Calculated avant-garde exercise or wealthy person without self-awareness or talent

Hmm, we'll never know.

Carlos Santana & Mahavishnu Rob Thomas (PBKR), Wednesday, 28 July 2021 13:15 (four years ago)

I can't imagine another board with people trying to do the required mental gymnastics to turn the latter into the former though. Sometimes bad is just bad.

Marty J. Bilge (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 28 July 2021 13:46 (four years ago)

This song's proponents have iirc all said they like it because of the pleasure of hearing it

imago, Wednesday, 28 July 2021 14:22 (four years ago)

I probably slightly prefer the pleasure of thinking and talking about it.

Halfway there but for you, Wednesday, 28 July 2021 14:24 (four years ago)

xpost - Fine, then I'll amend my post to say I'm completely lost as to how anyone could find pleasure in anything about that song.

a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 28 July 2021 14:29 (four years ago)

The tang of unusual tonal harmonies within a pop-country context is pretty irresistible, what can I say

imago, Wednesday, 28 July 2021 14:30 (four years ago)

this song is A+, it's clearly intentional and it is not easy to be off key on every single note.

akm, Wednesday, 28 July 2021 14:34 (four years ago)

^ would've been agreed upon already if this board wasn't almost entirely people over 30

ri, Wednesday, 28 July 2021 14:46 (four years ago)

it being bait, that is

ri, Wednesday, 28 July 2021 14:48 (four years ago)

another Sarah Brand rapidly updates her profile...

Sure, sure. I will believe this when she releases the song where she is on key on every single note.

Carlos Santana & Mahavishnu Rob Thomas (PBKR), Wednesday, 28 July 2021 15:04 (four years ago)

Green Templeton College obviously think any publicity's good publicity:

Grandpont Genie, Wednesday, 28 July 2021 15:09 (four years ago)

it was manifestly obvious on the first listen that it was deliberate. she is hitting the same notes over and over again

imago, Wednesday, 28 July 2021 15:10 (four years ago)

It's totally possible to be off key on every note, esp if you make certain (common) errors in vocal technique. (See for reference: any group not made up of professional singers singing "Happy Birthday"). I think Brand is probably genuinely limited as a singer. I just think it's more likely to be a case of accepting it and running with it than of massive self-delusion. Not sure what the basis is for assuming she's exceptionally wealthy, either.
