鬼の手 (Edward III), Thursday, 16 July 2009 13:36 (sixteen years ago)

copulatin' blues is awesome! absolutely filthy raunch! it's got songs like "if I can't sell it I'll keep sitting on it" and "rubbin' on the darn ole thing" from old ass crackling 78s, it's all so good.

鬼の手 (Edward III), Thursday, 16 July 2009 13:40 (sixteen years ago)

top 3:
the cramps
misfits
butthole surfers

Zeno, Thursday, 16 July 2009 13:41 (sixteen years ago)

can i have it xpost

╓abies, Thursday, 16 July 2009 13:42 (sixteen years ago)

if i was you, id check out the bone awl. havent heard it but the 'bog bodies' e.p. was awesome.

Michael B, Thursday, 16 July 2009 13:43 (sixteen years ago)

the morbid angel is a bootleg I bought back in '90, it's a soundboard from the european altars of madness tour. great version of "thy kingdom come" on it.

I'm pretty sure that live this kind of punishment was an official xpressway release? please tell me I can sell it on ebay for 60 million dollars.

鬼の手 (Edward III), Thursday, 16 July 2009 13:46 (sixteen years ago)

What's Bone Awl? No info on amg

╓abies, Thursday, 16 July 2009 13:46 (sixteen years ago)

IIRC that Bone Awl is rehearsal recordings or something so it sounds even more grimy and fucked up than their other shit. It's not 'Meaningless Leaning Mess' but it's aight

Pissed Jenas (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 16 July 2009 13:46 (sixteen years ago)

that was an xpost, I didn't type all that to rabies in five seconds

Pissed Jenas (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 16 July 2009 13:48 (sixteen years ago)

But you could have if you wanted to.

╓abies, Thursday, 16 July 2009 13:58 (sixteen years ago)

Misfits and then Cramps, and while you're driving around listening to them, whip the other cassettes out of the window into open traffic.

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:16 (sixteen years ago)

Horse Cock, just for the cover of CIA Man.

Trip Maker, Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:21 (sixteen years ago)

what/who is teenage waistband? this thread is amongst the first google results

best "Courtroom/Lesbian Scene" titties (gnarly sceptre), Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:46 (sixteen years ago)

Dick Dale!

ian, Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:52 (sixteen years ago)

Dick Dale is perfect for driving down 95 imo, or driving down Route 2, or 117.

ian, Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:53 (sixteen years ago)

never thought i'd vote dick dale over copulatin blues, misfits and the sun city girls, but there it is.

ian, Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:53 (sixteen years ago)

rrrabies: the label that put out Copulatin Blues (Stash) also put out several volumes of old-timey blues/jass about weed and cocaine and stuff. There are two volumes of Copulatin IIRC.

ian, Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:54 (sixteen years ago)

"This Is It" is also one of the best driving songs ever, imo.

myndbloom, Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:54 (sixteen years ago)

The King Of Surf is in fact excellent driving music.

I'm gonna look out for these Stash comps! Thanks Ian.

╓abies, Thursday, 16 July 2009 14:59 (sixteen years ago)

oh man Howlin' Wolf for sure.

and the oscar goes to "HOT TUB TIME MACHINE!" (jjjusten), Thursday, 16 July 2009 15:27 (sixteen years ago)

He pwns most things, in that list and elsewhere. Eyeballin a Misfits vote too tho!

╓abies, Thursday, 16 July 2009 16:13 (sixteen years ago)

i had to join in! ILM Help Pfunkboy Decide Which Of These Cassettes He Should Play!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 16 July 2009 16:15 (sixteen years ago)

hehe i have that bone awl tape too. Have you still got the barbed wire that came with it?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Thursday, 16 July 2009 16:16 (sixteen years ago)

I'm voting the Branca because I'm pretty sure I used to own that on cassette, too. (Was it an ROIR tape? I know he had one or two.)

xhuxk, Thursday, 16 July 2009 16:39 (sixteen years ago)

it's a 2000 silver CRV

― 鬼の手 (Edward III), Thursday, 16 July 2009 13:35 (3 hours ago)

everything sounds good on the CRV system!

69, Thursday, 16 July 2009 17:31 (sixteen years ago)

psychgawsple, Thursday, 16 July 2009 17:37 (sixteen years ago)

Alex, you are insane

Myonga Vön Bontee, Thursday, 16 July 2009 17:40 (sixteen years ago)

Cheers!

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 16 July 2009 19:24 (sixteen years ago)

Eric B, old school rap sounds best on cassette.

brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 16 July 2009 19:40 (sixteen years ago)

^ so true

there are some rap albums I can't listen to on CD, it's just not the same

鬼の手 (Edward III), Thursday, 16 July 2009 19:46 (sixteen years ago)

Misfits and then Cramps, and while you're driving around listening to them, whip the other cassettes out of the window into open traffic.
Howlin' Wolf eats both of those candy-assed poseurs for breakfast.

Jazzbo, Thursday, 16 July 2009 19:46 (sixteen years ago)

Sez you.

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 16 July 2009 19:58 (sixteen years ago)

Good one.
Please. Howlin' Wolf makes them sound like easy listening. Hey if you're into that, that's fine. I'm not judging or anything ...
I like the Cramps but Howlin' Wolf was the real deal. Lux Interior, Satan rest his soul, would certainly agree with me.

Jazzbo, Thursday, 16 July 2009 20:04 (sixteen years ago)

Sez me.

Jazzbo, Thursday, 16 July 2009 20:04 (sixteen years ago)

there were 2 copulatin' blues comps, I have vol 1. I'm pretty sure the CD is both volumes BUT some stuff on the original comps didn't make it to CD, bessie smith doing "put a little sugar in my bowl" IIRC, probably cause of rights issues.

teenage waistband was a providence no wave band that released two tapes and broke up a couple years ago. they were great! http://www.myspace.com/teenagewaistband

the bone awl cassette is rehearsal tapes but I don't think it sounds any better or worse than their other stuff. I love that they are so off the map that amg doesn't know who they are, good work bone awl. mine didn't come with barbed wire, boo.

the branca tape is on blastfirst iirc

maybe I should digitize some of the obscure ones and leonardo them

鬼の手 (Edward III), Thursday, 16 July 2009 20:09 (sixteen years ago)

I've been on a huge dick dale kick lately, ian. been working my way through the first 6 albums. have you ever heard live @ ciro's? there's a song on there called "angry generation"!

鬼の手 (Edward III), Thursday, 16 July 2009 20:42 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Thursday, 16 July 2009 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

hope its a short journey!

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Friday, 17 July 2009 00:01 (sixteen years ago)

bone awl! wow ilm you are too cool for school

鬼の手 (Edward III), Friday, 17 July 2009 01:57 (sixteen years ago)

If I had seen this poll, I woulda voted Team Dresch! Great album.

kate78, Friday, 17 July 2009 03:50 (sixteen years ago)

yeah I was kinda bummed team dresch didn't get any votes, it's one of my favorites. a postpoll +1 for them.

I gotta post the track listing to that lost records compilation, it's all mid to late 80s NYC stuff like mofungo, the scene is now, chain gang, fish & roses. I think lost records was rick brown's label? he gave me a copy when I interviewed him in '89.

RIP fish & roses I loved you so

original bgm, Monday, 20 July 2009 14:01 (sixteen years ago)

three years pass...

lol bone awl. hilarious that out of this this box of amazing tapes, the clear winner was the one that sounds most like someone shaking a box of tapes.

contenderizer, Tuesday, 14 August 2012 21:53 (thirteen years ago)

lol

steven fucking tyler (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Tuesday, 14 August 2012 21:59 (thirteen years ago)

also funny that this thread remains the only google results for "we are afraid to serve you" "lost records"

RIP lower east side

I'd love to prove how awesome the chain gang track "pictures of dead presidents" is, but it's not on youtube
