just got this one today: http://www.discogs.com/Peter-Grummich-Gomorra-EP/release/1101701
only 23 people on discogs have it?! peter grummich is totally underrated imo.

I'd say so.
I finally got my hands on a vinyl copy of Voodoo Ray (also I just thought, is it supposed to mean Voodoo King in Spanish?) today, original Warlock release, also found at a bookstore.
It's been a pretty damn good week for totally out-of-the-blue finds :D
― EDB, Friday, 17 July 2009 02:37 (sixteen years ago)
'voodoo ray' never goes out of style.
― easily-led zeppelin (haitch), Friday, 17 July 2009 02:55 (sixteen years ago)
It's definitely a top 5 dance track of all time for me.
― EDB, Friday, 17 July 2009 02:59 (sixteen years ago)
(also I just thought, is it supposed to mean Voodoo King in Spanish?)
no, is sample of Peter Cook saying "voodoo rage" on a sampler with very short memory
― surm? lol (sic), Friday, 17 July 2009 02:59 (sixteen years ago)
xpost. "Voodoo ray" in the song is a sample of Peter Cook saying "Voodoo rage" with the end cut off.
― De Mysteriis Dom Passantino (jim), Friday, 17 July 2009 03:00 (sixteen years ago)
xp. ah i didn't know it was because of short sampler memory!
Ha, that's funny, actually.
I guess that explains the Black Secret Technology track, Voodoo Rage (which I always thought was just a funny play on words).
Either way, let's celebrate it's excellence with another personal all time favourite its also very excellent music video:

maybe in 04 adonis was harder to find, fuck knows to be honest, just someone above asked about the story and that's what T told me, he seems a fairly honest decent guy and is a massive fan of adonis so presumably wouldn't have made up a lie.

This is also definitely worth looking into:

Intelligent Communication - Principles Of Motion E.P.http://www.discogs.com/Intelligent-Communication-Principles-Of-Motion-EP/master/12911
This was an early breakbeat record by the FSOL guys in 91. It is super deep and atmospheric. Fits well with Analogue Bubblebath and LFO type stuff...

Those FSOL tracks are amazing. Thanks. Google turned up a zip file with that EP pretty easily. The full EP is great.

Not super old, but just found a used copy of Brandi Ifgray's (aka Maurice Fulton) "Maurice Fulton" remixes 12" on Puu/Sahko...http://www.discogs.com/Brandi-Ifgray-Maurice-Fulton-Mixes/release/3569
The "Ibiza mix" is a funny breakbeaty thing, but the "vibe mix" is really nice -- full of rambling pianos and vibraphones, big chunky house beat, dissonant as fuck...
― pshrbrn, Saturday, 18 July 2009 09:33 (sixteen years ago)
Brandi Ifgray's (aka Maurice Fulton)
Brandi Ifgray is not Maurice Fulton! It's a pseudonym for a Finnish dude who used to sing in an new wave band called Shadowplay before doing a couple of solo albums for Puu/Sähkö.

Loving these retro mixes at the mo. Bleep 43's selection of 90's techno also doing it. You just can't argue with most of these tracks.

I'm listening to a bunch of old Freude am Tanzen releases. The two highlights for me are Gamat 3000's "Feeling Love (Remixes)" and the James Bond-themed "Fort Knox EP" which has a Wighnomy Bros cover of "Nobody Does It Better".
― Goethe*s Elective Affinities, Thursday, 6 August 2009 02:24 (sixteen years ago)
Nice, a lot of the earlier releases have a summery house feel to them, if I recall. I picked up the 'Wignomy Ep' a while back. Their new podcasts started off well, No.1 being Douglas Greed I think.
― mmmm, Thursday, 6 August 2009 06:44 (sixteen years ago)
I picked up this yesterday; http://www.discogs.com/Various-Tresor-II-Berlin-Detroit-A-Techno-Alliance/release/48297
Can't wait to play.
― mmmm, Thursday, 6 August 2009 06:47 (sixteen years ago)
that was a huge one for me. It came out the year I went to college and got my first radio show. I know WOBC in Oberlin had the CD but they either had it on vinyl as well or had a lot of that stuff. Changes of LIfe was the first thing I ever beatmatched somewhat well. (after trying to mix Meat Beat Manifesto and 808 State in high school).

Tresor II & III were my introduction to techno. I had them on cassette, I used to jam the hell out of them in my car.

Just found Science 2102 - The Clock Keeps Turnin, produced by Justus Kohncke, which, not unlike Timecode to L.I.P.P.S., covers the Roll Skate Ride Bounce/Rappers Delight bassline. All I'll say is that it is just an wonderfully perfect end-of-summer jam.
― EDB, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 00:15 (sixteen years ago)
And that I had the fortune of first hearing it played live from Mr. Kohncke himself :)
― EDB, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 00:16 (sixteen years ago)
And I never mentioned it here but wanted to awhile back: Justus' remix of Chelonis R. Jones is another remarkable track.
― EDB, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 00:34 (sixteen years ago)
xxpost Actually I realize now it's a straight up cover of Good Times by Chic.
― EDB, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 13:37 (sixteen years ago)
Interesting about those Science releases. I've seen a few floating around and never knew what they were. So they're all Chic edits/covers and Kohncke did all of them? Any that folks particularly recommend?

Attention all Bobbinsers, In short: Craigslist posting, records, $10 each (before the possibility of bargaining, which I'm not good at anyways). I've been looking to get a copy of The Climax for awhile anyways, and possibly Do Da Doo, but I'm not sure about what of the rest I should be looking out for, and it's not like I'm especially keen on dropping a lot of money on old rave records, either.

On second-and-a-half look, this really does fall to the ravey/hard side, more than I remember as as first struck by.

i used to love "Never Lost His Hardcore" i remember local rave djs used to use it to transition from the techno part of their sets into jungle. listening now, it sounds like a hyped up C+C Music Factory.
― myndbloom, Thursday, 12 November 2009 20:31 (sixteen years ago)
Yeah, I'll be able to listen to stuff there. I'll probably get the Joey Beltram one, and def. check out the Mike Dunn/Polygon Window/Age of Love stuff, depends on how much of a deals I can get (I'm so used to paying $2 for craigslist records, of course none of them have been The Climax or Original Joey Beltram pressings or the like).
Thanks, all, for the help.
― EDB, Thursday, 12 November 2009 20:42 (sixteen years ago)
robotman do da doo plastikman remix is brilliant, not least that my copy has hawtin's dad masquerading as the mysterious "robotman" on the sleeve. srsly, tho, it's a tune and a half.

― Tuomas, Friday, 13 November 2009 18:55 (sixteen years ago)
From EDB list (Thursday 12 Nov), I'd put forward as absolutely essential the following:
ABSOLUTELY VITAL:Joey Beltram - Beltram Vol1 [includes Energy Flash – original pressing] – R&S Records ( The greatest Techno Track Of All Time )
Dave Clarke – Red 2 [original pressing on red vinyl] – Bush ( big classic visceral, immense machine funk that still sounds great. You'll have heard this alot already. You'll need a warehouse to make this actually work though. As for Red 1 - yeah, but not personally that into it. Red 2 and Southside are my favourite Dave Clarke workz, Southside for the disco inflections.)
WORTH IT FOR $5.00 or less:
System 7 – Alpha Wave (Plastikman’s Acid House mix) – Big Life (This basically is one of the finest examples of early 90s trance/techno/acid - the last 5 minutes is a monster 303 frenzy. Fuck, I can smell the vicks and see the lazerz just by listening to 30secs of this track. Its pretty fucking immense. But really - who dances to this kind of stuff these day?? Also in terms of Hawtins acid stuff from this time, I prefer this to the Robotman Do Da Doo remix whose vocal "Got to do the do" really grates me, but structurally they're the same. I always thought of the Do Da Doo remix as an Acperience clone, whilst the System 7 mix is more unique)
Orbital – Lush (Psycick Warrriors of Gaia and CJ Bolland remixes) – Internal (worth it for the long, very sparse, slow build of the Psychick Warriors mix aka Lush 3-4)
Polygon Window – Quoth – Warp
Robert Armani – The Remixes [includes Circus Bells Hardfloor remix) – Djax (Hardfloor innit - seminal; doo doo doo de doo. de doo doo doo de doo. de doo doo doo de doo looped and each pitched and squeelling higher and higher. )
KNOCK HIM DOWN TO $1.00:And these two have a kind of historical relevance, but I'd bargain for them to thrown in as freebies:
The Age of Love – The Age of Love – Radikal (NB: The Jam & Spoon Watch Out For Stella Mix is the one to go for)
Rabbit in the Moon – Phases of an Out of Body Experience - Hardkiss
AVOID:I'd avoid Barbarella – Barbarella – Harthouse - it hasn't aged well.
― Tannenbaum Schmidt, Saturday, 14 November 2009 01:24 (sixteen years ago)
Well, I own a copy of the Climax, which is definitely the most (physically) beautiful record I own. Not to mention an original pressing of Beltram Vol 1, the Doo Da Doo Remixes, and a very pleasant surprise, a copy of Altered States :)
You're right about Red 2, though, it's a banger, and would kill in a warehouse or dingy basement, but dude was charging more than I'd have expected for it, so...
― EDB, Wednesday, 18 November 2009 02:49 (sixteen years ago)
That Rabbit In The Moon 12" is about 25-40 bucks on Discogs.com. Those Hardkiss records continue to go up in price too. I'd get that one for sure.

HEY GUYZ.
after some searching, it seems that Spencer Kincy AKA Gemini had been filing Torts/wrongful injury claims against the Department of Defense, the CIA, and the US government as late as September 2008.
so he's probably still alive, somewhere in Chicago.
