Somehow I had never heard the original of 'Stand By Your Man' before hearing the Wendy & Lemmy version. It's a keeper for the version of 'No Class' on the b-side.
I used to have The French Impressionists and Minny Pops singles. I may still do somewhere! I can't recall the first at all, I still dig Minny Pops.
I'm not sure if the Jack Lee 'Hanging On The Telephone' is any different from his version as The Nerves. It is great but Blondie's is better.
Musical Youth has one of thee all time best intros.
Gonna go 'Do Ya Wanna Funk' too. I hope Dave Rimmer has lived a life of regret for the last 40 years over that review!

"The X-Boy" is an interesting oddity. It reminds me of Carmel. I guess there was a little bouncy jazz mini-craze in the UK at that time that the US didn't really get

I had no idea that Blondie song was a cover, just listened to the original and like it a lot. There's only one winner here though.

the X-Boy is good, but the b-side is even better, maybe my favourite Compact Organization track

Zapp's "Dancefloor" is very good, but I don't think I will have any other choice than to add to the landslide. "Do You Wanna Funk" is so hot and horny, but it's also a very sad song, with all its built-in rejection and heartbreak.

All of this about the Compact label is new to me... looking into it, it seems as if they fashioned themselves as sort of a Popist indie label (before that term came in)

Virna Lindt was tipped for stardom. Mari Wilsom nearly got there.

i didn't know Cynthia Scott, but the Virna Lindt stuff on Compact Organisation is definitely worth hearing. i bought the album Shiver blind a few years back and it's tremendous

“Pass The Dutchie” topped my personal chart, “Friend Or Foe” must have briefly grazed it, “Do You Wanna Funk” was obviously a favourite as I was just becoming aware of gay disco as a genre, and was on the brink of going to gay discos myself, and I liked “Whatever Is He Like” (my sister was an actual member of the actual Farmers Boys fan club!)

The only Farmers Boys track I remember, which I liked a lot, was "In the Country" - didn't know till years later it was an old Cliff Richard hit

oh yes, i forgot it was also used by Miharu Koshi. i adore that album and that track is its peak moment.
I saw the Farmers Boys on a triple bill with The Higsons and either The Cravats or The Very Things. Easy to mix The Higsons and The Farmers Boys up!!

it is indeed. it is about to get reissued with a slightly expanded version of the original cover.

forks: the French Impressionists track that you've picked for your playlists is "Santa Baby", but this isn't on the EP. The lead track is actually "Pick Up The Rhythm".

I definitely prefer the Cynthia Scott B-side posted above.
The American Remix of Light Of The World is pretty decent Britfunk, if nothing out of the ordinary.
Oh how we laughed at "a dutchie is actually a kind of earthenware cooking pot", a fig leaf justification that's right up there with "Ebenezer Goode is a typical character that you might find in the music industry".
The Jam single fell into the "just about worth taping off the radio" category, and I still have no strong feelings about it either way.
Gary Glitter's cover of "Be My Baby" is quite astonishingly inept. Self-produced, you say? Without Mike Leander, he's nothing.
The hokey Diana Ross single is also a shocker. What was she thinking of, etc.
"Dance Floor" is Zapp/Troutman at their best, while "Hard To Get" is Rick James at his worst: it not only rips off "Super Freak" from the previous year, but the lyrics betray more about him that I would rather forget, at least when I'm listening to his good stuff.
Baffled at Rimmer's slagging of Sylvester, as I thought he had an ear for this sort of thing. Worst percussion break ever? REALLY? But then he proceeds to claim that the Farmers Boys single has "completely inaudible bass", when it's actually mixed high in the track, so God knows what was up with him that week. Big Edwyn Collins influence in those Farmers Boys vocals, which is no bad thing really.
"Do You Wanna Funk" is so streets ahead of the pack, that I can't vote otherwise.
