it only bugs me because I'm a Steve Lacy The Elder fan. It would also bug me if there was a new artist who just happened to be named, like, Richard D James or something

I always thought Nirvana was a terrible name, given their approach, and given that there were a ton of bands in their greater scene that were far more mind-manifesting (Soundgarden, Sonic Youth, Loop)
Not sure what it has in common with those other band names, but I've always assumed Nirvana was self-deprecating sarcasm and appreciated it for that reason.
Rapeman, objectively, is not a good band name, but the blithely confrontational (and juvenile) nature of it is funny (at least to me). Ditto Fudge Tunnel and Butthole Surfers, I guess. Fudge Tunnel released two really good albums, but I never went around volunteering that I was a fan of them.
Just finished listening to the new King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, whose name I hate tremendously, but it's a really good album.

I almost bought one of their T-shirts when I saw them open for Sepultura in 1993; it had what I thought was a crazy homeless guy gurning at the camera on the front. I decided against it when the person I was with pointed out that it was actually a then-recent(ish) picture of Charles Manson.

I thought Foster The People started with a verb, though, making it not fit in with the original dislike?
It's probably meant to have a double meaning, but the main guy's last name is also Foster.
Seconding Soccer Mommy and Japanese Breakfast, although I did cave and listen to one of the latter's songs and it's really not my thing, anyway.
I finally listened to Tropical Fuck Storm because of some recent poll on here and I think they're really good, but every time I listen to them, I get the urge to email my one friend who I know would love them, and then back off because I'm embarrassed.

mentioned it in another thread, but around the time Orgy put out Candyass, there was a band named Candyass who put out an album called Orgy, potentially a coincidence, potentially to dupe people, and I refused to listen to them cos of that

There was an Aus indie band called "Papa vs Pretty" which is a pretty dumb name anyway, but everyone on the radio called them "Papa verse Pretty" and I hated their guts because of this.I still don't know whether they themselves pronounced it that way, but if they did then fuck them.
This has been my post.

Soccer Mommy is a good call, purposely avoided her first album because of that name. But a local radio station played one off her recent album and I ended up liking that a whole lot.

Fucked Up and Fuck Buttons are great and their F-word names should not prevent a person from experiencing their music. Holy Fuck is also a stupid name / decent band. My favorite fuck name is "Fuck the Facts". It just fits.
― beard papa, Wednesday, 23 June 2021 17:45 (four years ago)
Holy Fuck is fine enough but i remember being disappointed that the music music didnt live up to the edginess of the band name. Fucked Up on the other hand earns their f-word

I've heard the alleged FO Machete/Chris de Burgh disgust story being also attributed to Arab Strap's 'The Cunted Circus' live album. Supposedly he booked Mono as a small venue to do some kind of private CD release event in, where he caught sight of an offending album by either band

BSS, Casiotone — those are good indie acts (coming from a guy normally averse to indie). My choice: Ross From FriendsCom Truise too probably, although that might relate to Sc13ntology as much as anything else.

I suppose the are all toxically dull in quite a American male way. Father John Misty and Bon Iver are maybe the odd ones out and I dislike those for different reasons. I can’t think off any amazing band names off the top of my head but I don’t mind most. The Byrds, 100gecs and Blondie are all fine, for example.
