Don't mind Collectives or __ The ___ constructions. I thought Foster The People started with a verb, though, making it not fit in with the original dislike? I'm not mad keen on doubling letters but there are enough bands who do that who are fine-to-good that it wouldn't put me off in itself. While I have liked some stupid spoonerism-named bands in the past any new one will have to get over a massive hurdle to get me to listen to them.

Honestly I prob pointedly ignore about 70% of all musical artists due to their name. There's too much music out there, so it allows me to quickly whittle down the options. Sure I may miss out on an artist I might've enjoyed but overall it's been a very useful heuristic.

I really want to write off any band with punctuation symbols in their name (not umlauts, which are pretty cool, but stuff like !!!, Sun)))))))O or whatever, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, etc.) but mostly I find I like their music.

Is adding one or more redundant letters to a word/name the new having the word "Wolf" in your name?

I always assumed this was because all the band names were already taken.

even then bands are still using names that are already taken, e.g. I saw gig listings not long ago for a band called the Shivvers that are not the early 80s power pop group. They (the new band) should perhaps have called themselves the Shivvvers, or even used Google when they named their band, not that many bands seem to be aware of search engines given the number of them that reuse names.

lots of bad band names for sure but i'm not usually scared off by a name alone unless it's something like Reggae Rapids, which I spotted in an upcoming concert listing the other day. wtf that sounds like a racist disneyland ride.

Joke/pun names are pretty bad… I liked the name Camper Van Beethoven more when I originally thought it was some dada sh!t, than when I got the “joke.”

yeah, I became increasingly disappointed as I grew up and realized how much of what I once thought was weird and zany nonsense turned out to be clever wordplay.
