I never thought I'd say it, but I just miss the rest of the More Fire Crew.

me too. a lot actually. lethal needs them back. actually, he needs platinum 45 again too.

TS: platinum 45 vs Dexplicit

ppp, Tuesday, 28 June 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

It's funny that the only record this year which gets "grime" right (in that it works best when it's many voices battling each other for space to exist), Roll Deep's album, is also unfortunately the one which uses the worst LEAST grime backing beats. Other than Essentials Heating Vol 2 which is better than all the rest of this stuff combined (except "When I'm Ere".)

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

there's so much they could have put on it! 'What Have You Done?' obviously, yes, also 'So Sure' and 'Leave Me Alone' and 'I Hate Boyfriends' and and and, etc.

instead we get fucking 'Nite Nite' and 'I Don't Know Why'.

most of it is pretty great though, just that I've heard most of the highlights already.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

I don't think there is anything wrong with the production on the Lethal B record actually so DExplicit is okay by me.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

does anyone know who is producing on it?

dexplicit is good, i just like the old platinum 45 stuff too. id take oi over pow.

ppp, Tuesday, 28 June 2005 16:58 (twenty years ago)

producing on the kano album, i mean.

ppp, Tuesday, 28 June 2005 16:59 (twenty years ago)

Plasticman did Hitman I believe. The rest sounds like DEx to me.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 17:00 (twenty years ago)

Oh the Kano album. No idea actually. I mean other than Diplo, Davinche and Jammer.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 17:01 (twenty years ago)

id like to know who produced ghetto kid...

ppp, Tuesday, 28 June 2005 17:02 (twenty years ago)

Dear Grime people, please stop making artist albums, its not worth it cos you wont sell any anyway and itll prob be a bit of a cock up etc
thanx

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 17:07 (twenty years ago)

ambrose OTM

Edgware General (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

the girl on 'Brown Eyes' is Vula who tours with Basement Jaxx and sings on 'Oh My Gosh'

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

well the kano album is actually quite good - its more like a diverse selection across the 'urban' spectrum and well, he does it all quite well, overall... he makes better songs than wiley, roll deep, and bizzle, overall.

dissapointed that terror did how we living, i would have liked to hear kano over one of terror's faster beats.

ppp, Tuesday, 28 June 2005 17:08 (twenty years ago)

There should be more mixtapes like "Crazy's Murking Everybody Knows". ENOUGH albums already!

xp I like How We Livin

Edgware General (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 17:09 (twenty years ago)

Wait, "Boys Love Girls" is Jammer isn't it?

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 17:09 (twenty years ago)

he's still an amazing MC. the album is good, it's just that most of the tracks I hadn't heard previously are the weak ones ('Ghetto Kid' and 'Home Sweet Home' excepted obv)

the Terror production to put on this should have been 'Leave Me Alone'!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

Credits say 'Boys Love Girls' is produced by Kano, additional production by Menta

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 17:12 (twenty years ago)

"Boys Love Girls" is "Vice Versa" which is Jammer, right? Someone help me here. I feel like I am going crazy.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 17:13 (twenty years ago)

everyone thinks jammer did boyz..... but it was kano.

ppp, Tuesday, 28 June 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

yes, alex

Edgware General (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 17:15 (twenty years ago)

I am more confused now.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

Jammer is credited as producing Vice Versa pretty much everywhere, including on the NASTY MIX CD that I hold in my hand.

Edgware General (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 17:21 (twenty years ago)

Yeah google is pretty much indicating the same thing.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Tuesday, 28 June 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

Why the fuck doesn't "9 to 5" have a Dolly Parton sample? No wonder he's not going anywhere.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 2 July 2005 22:03 (twenty years ago)

i wonder where this album will enter the charts.....

ppp, Saturday, 2 July 2005 22:05 (twenty years ago)

This album is trying to cover way too many bases at once but at its best it pisses all over the Roll Deep album. Nite Nite is gorgeous.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 18:49 (twenty years ago)

I mean, its basically Wouldn't Want It Any Other Way with added Kano, but still...

Matt DC (Matt DC), Tuesday, 12 July 2005 19:03 (twenty years ago)

I feel like the only one in the world who genuinely likes the Roll Deep album.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

The confusion over "Boys Luv Girls" and "Vice Versa" is that people incorrectly assume they're the same track - encouraged by the fact that "Vice Versa" as a title would actually kinda work for the Kano track.

"Vice Versa" is actually the instrumental Jammer track (the 8-bar with the sparkling pipes and evil bass) which was the flipside on the original "Boys Luv Girls" 12 inch. A lot of people refer to this as "Vice Versa (Remix)" to unnecessarily distinguish it from "Boys Luv Girls".

Unfortunately I suspect I actually started this trend two years ago!

I have this feeling that I will like the Roll Deep album when I hear it.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 13 July 2005 00:42 (twenty years ago)

ha omg fux sake! for years i ws like "that v.v. rmx is prob the one thing i recall never ever hearing, but i shall do something with that curio b-side one day"

(this is the tune that begins "let me now turn to our program for the future" yeah?)

that explanation is semi-bunk tho, it ws one of the few 12s then of that ilk that had a label aaaaaand it said the following:

kano
vice versa
n.a.s.t.y

(erm also the label is on the boys luv girls side. i can always blame jungle for swapping intended label-sides tho)

make of it all what u will.

hold tight the private caller (mwah), Thursday, 14 July 2005 17:58 (twenty years ago)

thing is, if thats what kano produces, why doesnt he do more beats?!?!

ppp, Thursday, 14 July 2005 18:29 (twenty years ago)

Roll Deep (with Wiley) and Kano are both playing separate dates in NYC shortly...

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 14 July 2005 18:40 (twenty years ago)

the roll deep album is nowhere near as bad as it's made out to be (on occasion by me), but it's not terribly good either.

i'm not sure that the kano album is that much better, although maybe that's just because none of the songs which are new to me are that great.

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 14 July 2005 22:17 (twenty years ago)

The good half of the Roll Deep album is really quite good. If they had replaced the bad half with Aim High Volume 2 tracks it would have been the best album by the year by so far it wouldn't even be funny.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Thursday, 14 July 2005 22:27 (twenty years ago)

All the Roll Deep and Roll Deep-related tracks on Aim High 2 are amazing - I adore esp. Breeze on "Be Like This".

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 15 July 2005 02:59 (twenty years ago)

three weeks pass...
anyone heard anything about a U.S. release date for Home Sweet Home or should I spring for an import copy?

T. Weiss (Timmy), Thursday, 11 August 2005 22:06 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
Finally got round to listening this all the way through and I don't really see the hate at all. If you factor out Typical Me, I think its pretty much faultless up to an including Brown Eyes. Then it all goes horribly wrong and picks up with the last couple of tracks.

I even like the bits where he goes all emo.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 28 August 2005 21:26 (twenty years ago)
