yah not a fan of PRS's and it's all based on aesthetics.

Spottie, Wednesday, 2 June 2021 20:01 (five years ago)

hard to tell from sufjans pic but that prs looks like just normal paint no transparent?

Spottie, Wednesday, 2 June 2021 20:02 (five years ago)

It is very normal. A 1999 ford explorer eddie bauer guitar.

Spottie, Wednesday, 2 June 2021 20:11 (five years ago)

pretty wild you're the only one with a PRS thus far.

My understanding is that if you own both a PRS and a Mesa Boogie, you can get instantly licensed as a Blues Dentist.

My sources may be wrong, however.

i made fun of the quilted burst top / bird inlay prs aesthetic on one of the guitar threads here; after christmas this year the guitar player in my band bought himself a blue burst prs with the bird inlays

joygoat, Wednesday, 2 June 2021 21:27 (five years ago)

Did you then mercilessly mock and humiliate him, such that he quit the band in disgrace?

(Just kidding, of course. I would only mock someone who brought a Rich Bich to a folk session.)

P sure my ES-335 Studio is an official junior tone associate guitar. It plays blues in every key.

Despite owning multiple Fender offsets I've never put my hair up into a (man)bun.

watched this today, remembered how much I'd like a Firebird VII w/ Lyre vibrola.

those are so cool looking but the body size and the banjo tuners is just....a lot.

i've ordered some stuff to continue modding the tele thinline--b/w/b guard, deluxe-style knobs, and 1-meg pots for tone and volume to match the original spec for all the wide-range equipped fenders.

call all destroyer, Thursday, 3 June 2021 02:06 (five years ago)

If you need the repro WRHBs to sound cleaner, you can screw out (or even remove) the hidden polepieces from underneath the pickup, effectively you get around 1.5 polepieces per string instead of 2, gets a little more single coil although it's still a bar magnet pickup.

I played a PRS a few years ago & was blown away, but the aesthetics of the thing were so awful that I couldn’t possibly.

"The Pus/Worm" by The Smiths (hardcore dilettante), Thursday, 3 June 2021 03:52 (five years ago)

The aesthetics of a PRS are borderline upsetting to me, like the fact that someone with the money to buy a very nice guitar would think THAT looks nice

$1499 for a USA made semi-hollow is not a bad deal in guitars right now

the birds are already enough, but i'd forgotten about all of the dragon inlay stuff associated with PRS. oh my.

I wonder how many of their ubiquitous and over-the-top design choices were necessary for brand recognition after they chose a 3-named dude's full autograph as their logo

Ooh, these look nice. Aesthetically maybe a little cooler than the Eastmans as well.

that american flag on the pickguard though, hope it's a sticker

longtime caller, first time listener (man alive), Friday, 4 June 2021 03:24 (five years ago)

xxxp yeah TGP's ads are a whole subculture of fetish objects masquerading as guitars, where "blue jean" is as commonly understood as "sunburst" in the norm world

assert (matttkkkk), Friday, 4 June 2021 03:29 (five years ago)

most of the time when somebody says one thing is 'cooler' than another, and they aren't standing over two mounds of freshly made french fries, or two freshly baked pizza pies, etc., I assume they mean aesthetically.

does anyone know anything about fanned frets? one of those weird things from the guitar mag world that i've always wondered about and cannot quite understand what the advantage is supposed to be

Near as I can tell, it gives you different scale lengths for each string. So I guess you might get a thicker / boomier sound&feel on low strings and a tighter/snappier sound&feel on high strings.

I cannot imagine doing that on a six-string because I play very chordally (and my sense of muscle memory is entirely set in stone), but I can kinda understand how it might work on a bass. You get a deeper tone on the low string and the higher ones have more tension for soloing. Like Lee Sklar's basses:

i always wondered if it offered improved intonation for instruments with extended range like those 8 string basses or whatever they have now

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 16 June 2021 14:37 (four years ago)

yeah i thought it was related to intonation

na (NA), Wednesday, 16 June 2021 14:42 (four years ago)

but apparently that is incorrect

na (NA), Wednesday, 16 June 2021 14:44 (four years ago)
