Hyped for the two Portals. I just need to catch up with my paralyzingly long 2021 backlog first.

pomenitul, Friday, 28 May 2021 14:47 (five years ago)

i can't believe a new Helloween album is maybe my most anticipated release of 2021 but a new Helloween album is my most anticipated release of 2021.

Feta Van Cheese (Neanderthal), Friday, 28 May 2021 14:52 (five years ago)

the two singles they've dropped have both been really good, it's probably mine too haha

(⊙_⊙?) (original bgm), Friday, 28 May 2021 14:58 (five years ago)

New Bone Marrow EP really good. Wish it was longer!

BlackIronPrison, Friday, 28 May 2021 15:08 (five years ago)

The Tyrann record is great stuff. Swedish old-school HEAVY METAL, anthemic and punchy, with great drumming from Jakob Ljungberg (ex-Tribulation).

I think the Portal albums are meant to be played simultaneously. Hagbulbia is mostly just noise

Feta Van Cheese (Neanderthal), Friday, 28 May 2021 19:01 (five years ago)

Avow sounds more like trad Portal

Feta Van Cheese (Neanderthal), Friday, 28 May 2021 19:01 (five years ago)

Loving Avow so far. Will need to come back to Hagbulbia.

gman59, Friday, 28 May 2021 19:26 (five years ago)

Not quite the weather for it, but this is early-mid 90s Finnish funeral doom worship done right:

Love the new The Flight of Sleipnir album that just came out.

I discovered Skadi in the 2017 ILM Rolling Metal. The Denver group is shoe-horned into doom metal, but this seems far more American folk, very lovingly textured and pleasantly melancholic, but powerful at times as well.

xxpost: thanks for that Horre recommendation, I like the minimalism

StanM, Sunday, 30 May 2021 21:26 (five years ago)

Gone back and played through Hagbulbia. It's overwhelming but in a really cool way. It's how I remember feeling when i first heard Swarth. They keep pushing things to their breaking point.

gman59, Sunday, 30 May 2021 23:12 (five years ago)

So are the two Portal records meant to be played simultaneously, or not?

but also fuck you (unperson), Monday, 31 May 2021 01:20 (five years ago)

They’re different lengths, and don’t have the same number of tracks, so I would think not?

wronger than 100 geir posts (MacDara), Monday, 31 May 2021 08:30 (five years ago)

Maybe there is something im missing but I think they are two different releases that just happened to come out the same day. Both are wild.

gman59, Tuesday, 1 June 2021 16:07 (five years ago)

Probably a smart move to release the somewhat normal one with the obviously polarizing one.

gman59, Tuesday, 1 June 2021 16:09 (five years ago)

They called it a "companion" album which can mean a great variety of things between "play them both simultaneously" to "buy them both we put them out the same day, most ppl only put out 1 album at a time"

Feta Van Cheese (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 1 June 2021 21:33 (five years ago)

new Killing Addiction out today. I miss the raw production and filthiness of their debut, but this is fun nonetheless.

Feta Van Cheese (Neanderthal), Wednesday, 2 June 2021 00:24 (five years ago)

New Skepticism album in September...

New King Woman song! Album out late July.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tk-rxh1xmKs

I absolutely love this. It starts out like a typical KW song but it keeps building into something glorious.

braised cod, Thursday, 3 June 2021 14:03 (five years ago)

the "other" portal album is kind of great

intern at pelican brief consulting (Simon H.), Thursday, 3 June 2021 14:21 (five years ago)

Def excited to finally have more King Woman!

The word about the Portal is making me want to break my hiatus from giving PL money.

That Skepticism album has several track titles that are vmic: I had to check "wait - don't they have one with that name yet?" :-)

StanM, Thursday, 3 June 2021 15:05 (five years ago)

loving this song. god, skepticism are just the best.

the new nekromantheon is the one I'm currently hooked on:
https://nekromantheon-norway.bandcamp.com/album/visions-of-trismegistos

super fast + aggressive thrash with obliteration members. it rules. I wish there was some audible low end on it but it rules.

(⊙_⊙?) (original bgm), Thursday, 3 June 2021 18:48 (five years ago)

Bands of note with albums out tomorrow:

Atreyu
Flotsam & Jetsam
Pestilence
Red Fang

Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Thursday, 3 June 2021 21:13 (five years ago)

I mean I guess "of note" technically applies to Atreyu...

Def looking forward to Red Fang, love those guys.

For those who like their riffs dipped in a cavernous wellspring, this pwns:

pomenitul, Friday, 4 June 2021 16:30 (five years ago)

that's such a mad libs metal album title lol

Feta Van Cheese (Neanderthal), Friday, 4 June 2021 16:50 (five years ago)

ESL ftw.

pomenitul, Friday, 4 June 2021 16:51 (five years ago)

also I just bought it because of that

Feta Van Cheese (Neanderthal), Friday, 4 June 2021 16:51 (five years ago)

:D

pomenitul, Friday, 4 June 2021 16:58 (five years ago)

the song titles are hilarious, too ... and maybe it's just me but i was reading through them and when i got to #8, i just busted out laughing. it's like they ran out of gross ideas and had to come up with something that they thought sounded scary

alpine static, Friday, 4 June 2021 17:58 (five years ago)

I was already chuckling by "Cauldron of Execution"

braised cod, Friday, 4 June 2021 18:06 (five years ago)

nothing there approaching Fuck of Death sadly

Feta Van Cheese (Neanderthal), Friday, 4 June 2021 18:09 (five years ago)

'Sawmill in the Mist' sounds vaguely impressionistic, actually. Could be the title of a Eero Järnefelt painting.

pomenitul, Friday, 4 June 2021 18:50 (five years ago)

Yes, this is where I lost my shit!

a superficial sheeb of intelligence (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 4 June 2021 19:02 (five years ago)

I mean… just look at them. They can't possibly be older than, like, 19-20? Best time to be cutting VILE and BEGRIMED metal records imo.

pomenitul, Friday, 4 June 2021 19:07 (five years ago)

(de)formed in 2020.

lol, this band is cute.

jmm, Friday, 4 June 2021 19:10 (five years ago)

that Morbific is INSANELY heavy

Feta Van Cheese (Neanderthal), Friday, 4 June 2021 21:55 (five years ago)

No such thing as too much downtuning imo.

pomenitul, Friday, 4 June 2021 22:09 (five years ago)

they're from the same town as Nightwish :D

StanM, Saturday, 5 June 2021 06:48 (five years ago)

If 1h14m of doom-inflected depressive black metal sounds appealing to you, Mourning Dawn has got you covered:

If you like 90s era tech but not too tech death a la Death, Atheist, Oppressor's Solstice of Oppression, supernaturally channeled through high schoolers in Idaho, this performance will rivet you.

On their BC they have an album of these songs where the production does way more harm than good. Really hope they re-record everything.

They are called Barn.

Devilock, Sunday, 6 June 2021 04:58 (five years ago)

well that was supposed to be the non-embed link, hence my bothering to name them, but each time I post a YT clip I have a 50/50 shot at remembering

Devilock, Sunday, 6 June 2021 05:01 (five years ago)

this Boss Keloid record is pleasantly groovy...tough to put my figure on exactly who or what they sound like, but I thought of Baroness and Moon Tooth a couple times, with an extra dollop of 70s prog flavor

I don't think I can remember my own language being used this poetically in the kind of music I like anywhere since the early 80s wave band Aroma Di Amore :-)

StanM, Wednesday, 9 June 2021 16:01 (four years ago)

This song is OK, as shreddy death metal goes, but I'm mostly posting it because I really like the name Deformatory.

my god, amenra played that song two years ago during their fire ritual already, why have I never checked that out in full? (fast forward to 27 minutes etc) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddxt3v15K4k
