The best way to describe this new band was a multi-talented hippie band. The band’s set list consisted of original songs, good old time rockin’ covers and a Beatles set that was second to none.

To be fair, I can see Colin Newman doing this.
Wire was especially popular on the college circuit.

As a vocalist, Charles, along with Julia Rinker Miller, sang the theme song to the television series Three's Company.
Now there's a trivia question that you can not only get right, but also piss off the whole rest of the bar at the same time.

Ray Charles (b. 1918) is especially unfortunate because according to Wiki he went by his birth name, Chuck Offenberg, until the 1950s when the other Ray Charles was already famous. Not sure why you would invite that confusion upon yourself!

I was 99% sure when I came across his name that it was a typo for Ray Conniff.
― Sterl of the Quarter (James Redd and the Blecchs), Monday, 22 November 2021 20:56 (two years ago) link
To add to themy confusion, there seems to be an overlap between the Ray Conniff Singers and The Ron Hicklin Singers, including Ron Hicklin himself, although the Ray Charles Singers form a disjoint set, at least as far as I know right now.

Back in the late '90s, when I worked in the NYC music television world, a producer was compiling footage for a George Clinton (P-Funk) doc. In those early-ish days of the Internet, it wasn't immediately clear which "George Clinton" credit(s) belonged to whom – so she grabbed everything, including stuff that was actually done by film-score guy George S. Clinton.
As part of this haul, she ended up with a tape of The Apple, the 1980 Menahem Golan film. She watched it, and told me – "You gotta see this." So when I left that job a little while later, and moved across the country, I had a copy of the film dubbed onto a blank VHS (I accidentally taped over the first few minutes with a Chemical Brothers video).
Over the next few years, I forced friends and others to watch The Apple – they loved it (naturally, as it's one of the best things ever!). A roommate of mine became particularly obsessed. At the time, a friend of his worked in the home video division of MGM, and was looking for films to include as part of their 1970s/80s DVD reissue series. My roommate told her – "You guys own this movie, it's amazing, you should release it." (I think it was long since out of print on VHS, and had never been on DVD.)
As I recall, that DVD reissue helped spur a revival of interest in the film (at least here in L.A.) – I think the Nuart in West L.A. began screening it, with cast member Q&A's, a little while after the DVD came out; then it was screened at the Egyptian, etc. This tied in with a growing interest in / reassessment of the Golan-Globus films happening at the time (early/mid-2000s).
Anyway, that's the story of how someone's "WRONG DUDE" moment not only introduced me to one of my favorite movies, but also may have positioned me to play a small role in its revival (...keep in mind, I'm aware it almost certainly would have happened anyway, I'm not claiming unique credit here!).

Recht recalled one of the sessions having more than 200 people, including several musicians and a choir consisting of 120 vocalists.[53] Recht said recording the film's reggae number "How To Be a Master" was complicated due to actual Jamaican musicians performing on the song and not being able to "read the charts" that were in English.[54] According to Clinton, Grace Kennedy, who played Pandi, had an uncomfortable time singing "Coming," so Clinton had to tell her that it was her character singing the lyrics and not Kennedy herself.[55]
