I am late to the Spectral Wound party but this is a really great album, full of melodies betwixt cascading fury.

Grave Miasma album is 'fine', really, but with a lot of blackened death, ever since Behemoth clones started poring out of the woodwork, I find this style to be one I'm tired of atm (as opposed to Azarath, who are high octane energy).

Dordeduh is great from what I"ve had the chance to listen to, which is the first two tracks.

It's even proggier than their debut, with fewer 'unclean' vox than before. They seem to be dead set on becoming Romania's answer to Enslaved, which is not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned.

I really like the clean vox deployed and the atmosphere. Enslaved was my first thought, coincidentally enough, when listening to the first few tracks.

It's pronounced Dorr-deh-doohh (last one's a hard h, as in 'HATRED'), if you're curious.

Dor (yearning, longing) de (of, here in the sense of 'for' in English) duh (spirit).

They're ultimately a New Age band.

Max Cavalera has a new band, Go Ahead And Die, with his son Igor and Khemmis's Zach Coleman on drums. The self-titled debut comes out June 11; it's primitive, crudely produced caveman thrash. Some of you may like it better than anything he's done since Arise. I still say Cavalera Conspiracy are a great band, particularly on their last two albums, but this is really good, too.

Audible bass virtuosity is a telltale sign the tech death will be good.

New Panopticon is brilliant, end stop.

Panopticon always delivers imo but wow, yeah this is something else. Maybe its my yearning for nature after this long year but it's really hitting hard for me.

are there black metal bands that incorporate the motorik beat? maybe that's impossible, idk, the idea just crossed my mind

First band that came to mind for me as well, I’d say try Occult Rock and see how that grabs you.

the last one is going to be hard to top imo. you can definitely hear the retro heavy metal influences mentioned in the promo blurb on the teaser track and that def threw me off for a sec. but I'm curious to hear how this plays out over a whole record.

oh and love that apostasy cover too, caught my eye as well. those colors are poppin! (relatively speaking)

Mesarthim has an EP that came out last month digitally and on CD on 5/28.
They seem to be employing more synth to cerate their spacy moods on this one.
Also on 5/28 the band is releasing a limited cassette box set of everything they have done.

I like the new Gojira a lot, but I liked most of their old albums too.

I never liked Gojira much and the new one doesn't change my mind.

But there are far more offensive bands that got huge, so good for them!

Metallica's $5.98 EP is the only covers record I like, usually, but Monster Magnet sound enough like their inspirations that I'm willing to give this one a try. The version of "Born To Go" is loud as fuck, as it should be.

But Ellefson is super Christian too! I think he was even a youth minister or something! (Which of course makes the stuff he's accused of both unsurprising and even creepier.)

Live by the sword, die by the sword, etc. Adultery is a big deal with these people.
